Snaggle Von Swift
I just purchased my first, a 4x2.. I plan on laying it down on it's side, and was wondering if if I opted not to put in a divider, how badly it would mess with the structural integrity. so, like:
mattisr1984
not really sure but if you try it I would think about getting some brackets or something to go on the back to try and sturdy it up
daegor
you literally cannot do this because of how it's put together, you'd actually have to cut one of the boards in half to accomplish this, which I would NOT recommend... the saw would likely tear the board apart when you try to cut it Nevermind! Snaggle Von Swift
Well that kinda sucks, but oh well. Thank you.
mattalica17
it looks like you can do it. on the ikea website it looks like it is 3 long boards and 4 short so with brackets it should be ok.

mattisr1984
its been awhile since ive put one of these together but im pretty sure you technically could do it. now, whether or not its smart to do it is another thing. like i said - id sturdy it up w/ some braces / brackets / whatever you call 'em. there will also be some pre-drilled holes showing. smailtronic
I just put a 2x4 together, and you can do this. There are 3 of the 1x2 supports and 4 of the 1x1. Just leave out one of the 1x1s. I wouldn't put anything on that top corner of the unit (just to be on the safe side), but you should be ok.

rocknroll76
I thought this thread was going to be "used guy" asking if anyone knows of an expedit small enough to fit 10 LPs and two 7"s.

steviewonderbread
You can do it, but you may want to consider putting less weight on the top shelves than the suggested max load of 29 pounds since you're altering the structural stability. You'll also have to cut the dowels to fit (easy), otherwise they'll stick out. Shot at 2012-03-
