drds89
Sound-wise, Nadja have hit my sweet spot the past few releases, with Queller really just being a fantastic listen. If you are put off by the whole 'drone' idea like I was, this may be worth 10 to 15 minutes to experiment with some more mainstream concepts. Nadja incorporate elements from other genres like shoegaze and some doom metal, with Queller, having (to my ears) taking some high end shrill off, and bring a very accessible tone to their faithful followers and perhaps reaching out to the uninitiated as well. Bandcamp here: http://nadja.bandcamp.com/album/queller If you just want the Black Wax /220, $26.99 + $5.00 Media Mail to US at Darla Records: http://darla.com/index.php?fuseaction=item_cat.ecom_superitem_detail&item_cat_id=42730 Essence music was chosen as they are known for their fine packaging of special releases. http://essence-music.com/releases/queller-lp/ If you want the limited White vinyl with Purple or Blue Art /133, I'm not sure how much longer they will last, but with the shipping $, the cost factor may keep them available longer. Nadja Queller Nadja’s absolutely unique and incredible splicing of extreme doom, shoegaze and experimental music that the Canadian duo – currently based in Berlin – likes to call “dreamgaze” is of such beauty and heaviness that it can crumble skyscrapers and mesmerize souls in absolute bliss and colossal majesty. Calmer and more structured when compared to their other albums, Queller is their newly crafted masterpiece where the band explicitly dives back into the new wave and post-punk era to combine those influential sonorities with an amalgam of immense and gorgeous sludging heavy guitar constructions. As the mastermind Aidan Baker wisely says, “Killing Joke, Joy Division and Wire reinterpreted through the Nadja spectrum”. The ethereal, lush and slow-motion heaviness of tracks like “Dark Circles” and the crushing blasts of “Lidérc” per se are true statements of an album of epic proportions. Nadja at its absolutely best. Recorded over a period of one week and pre-released on LP during the band’s South American tour, Queller is now officially available! Strictly limited total edition of 353 hand-numbered copies (220 on Black vinyl and 133 on White vinyl) pressed on 180g high-quality Dutch wax. Housed in a stunning hand-screenprinted, sturdy die-cut packaging, containing a fold-out poster/innersleeve – available in 3 different color variations -, insert and card. Beautiful artwork by Error! Design and mastering by James Plotkin. Also available as a CD edition. ABOUT NADJANadja is a Canadian duo made up of Aidan Baker (guitar, vocals, drum machines) and Leah Buckareff (bass, accordion, vocals) alternately based in Toronto and Berlin. GHOSTDRONES
The White vinyl was super expensive, but I could not help myself.

Guest
Nadja rules based on the small sampling i've heard. i will need to check this out, along with a good chunk of their massive discography. drds89

eskimoswim
Nadja rules based on the small sampling i've heard. i will need to check this out, along with a good chunk of their massive discography. i'd recommend: Under The Jaguar Sun Radiance of Shadows Guilted by the Sun Skin Turns to Glass the problem with Nadja is that their discography is in fact so massive that a large percentage of it sounds the same (they've changed this as of late) or just isn't worth listening to. but, that doesn't mean they still aren't capable of putting out really great albums. Queller is proof of that. drds89
drds89
i'd recommend: Under The Jaguar Sun Radiance of Shadows Guilted by the Sun Skin Turns to Glass the problem with Nadja is that their discography is in fact so massive that a large percentage of it sounds the same (they've changed this as of late) or just isn't worth listening to. but, that doesn't mean they still aren't capable of putting out really great albums. Queller is proof of that. It took me about 3 months, but I listened to almost everything Nadja put our or collaborated on, and took some notes as well (it was about 50 iirc) Massive seems about right Maybe not as prolific as Buckethead - what 8 albums this year so far? - but still. There seems to be certain patterns or themes in Baker's writing, and I agree with eskimoswim, many of the releases sound the same with subtle nuances, especially in 'texture' and could easily be merged into one 7 hr drone. Some of the patterns were immediate turn-offs, and one in particular seemed to click. The first that sent me into a trance was The Bungled and the Botched (headphones were better than speakers after a long day) Thaumogenesis was almost as good. Radiance of Shadows was next...and I stopped there for the older issues, because I got tired of getting up to flip the albums, so I just listened to downloads... Then, Dagdrom was a boomer, so I jumped on that with the /100 and all autographed, Green vinyl. The Perfect World collab with Vampillia on Important Records was along that some vein of drone, so I couldn't resist the PO. Long Dark Twenties is a great 8 minute 7" and I'm still looking for the RED one Just recently some of the lower press issues I said I wouldn't get came up in a sale, so I picked them up.... again, probably along all the same 'sound' vein: Touched Truth Becomes Death Guilted By The Sun Belles Bettes Skin Turns to Glass (more uptempo) and Under The Jaguar Sun (the first 5 tracks vs the 2nd 5 experimental) are also on my list, as well as most of the Pyramids collab, but I never clicked with Corrasion or Bodycage as much. I could drone on and on... Queller will probably turn into my favorite, and glad to see folks chiming in here. We probably needed a Nadja thread somewhere anyways. eskimoswim
I wish Hydra Head would have pressed the Pyramids collab (the remix 12" of isn't very good). Also, I thought Flipper was quite a boner kill for a Nadja release. it might as well have been an LP with nothing on it imo. i'm going to check out bungled and the botched tonight. radiatorhums
I wish Hydra Head would have pressed the Pyramids collab (the remix 12" of isn't very good). It's still odd to me that it didn't get a pressing, I hope Hydra Head gets around to it eventually (since they're focusing their effort on old releases exclusively now). I also wish When I See The Sun It Always Shines on TV would get a vinyl or cassette release. I still haven't dug through all the Nadja catalogue, I have a feeling it'll take me a few years to get through it completely.
GHOSTDRONES
Love Nadja, and I will back up the good things said about Radiance Of Shadows, Thaumogenesis, The Bungled and The Botched, Under A Jaguar Sun, Touched, and Truth Becomes Death. Let me also add Desire In Uneasiness. I like some of Bodycage and Corrasion has "Numb" which is awesome. There is a Japanese CD called Numbness that has "Alien In My Own Skin" which is also a stellar track. I have had Queller for a while and will also agree that it is some of their best work (though Radiance Of Shadows will probably remain my favorite). I cannot get into Dagdrom nor the majority of the splits and collaborations (though I will echo the need for a proper vinyl release of the Pyramids one). GHOSTDRONES
As far as Corrasion, I believe the latest mix and master (the 3rd I believe) is the best so far as individual sounds seem a bit clearer and more distinct rather than muddy; and its volume got a boost. Nadja has so many versions of the older releases like The Bungled and the Botched (which has at least two versions), Bliss Torn From Emptiness (again two versions) and Skin Turns To Glass (another with two versions) where the song lengths can be wildly different as can the overall sound of those recordings. Also, I thought Flipper was quite a boner kill for a Nadja release. it might as well have been an LP with nothing on it imo. i'm going to check out bungled and the botched tonight. Flipper didn't do anything for me either, even though for a good cause, I couldn't pull the trigger. I should clarify -- but didn't want to do a whole journal -- that are definitely tracks on albums that I like, but as a whole couldn't justify after several attempts.. like Corrasion, Bodycage (all of its color variants are tempting), Desire in Uneasiness, etc. The Life and Death Of A Wasp is such a cool title, and great art, but - sorry if I run over any toes - I couldn't find a single part of that one to click at all. Subjective. It probably comes out out to about 25% I will eventually own on wax, and have mp3's of others. And I didn't mention his collab with Alicia Merz (birds of passage) -- wow, what eerie track, but fits perfectly with the theme re: Marquis de Sade... No love for Dagdrom? That's OK, it really is so subjective -- and my mood has a lot to do with whether to even tee up Nadja. But this Queller - it's all around solid and all-occasions. Hope that they continue to explore things in this direction, but give us 3 or 4 months to earn some money and digest this one.
azvd
The overflow of releases slowly put me away from Nadja. Much more misses than hits. I feel kind the same about Boris, they reached a point where there wasn't much more to be done.
