Nothing surprises me on this sub-board, anymore.  I honestly don't get why people join just to promote their eBay listings.  Completely defeats the purpose of members trying to work out deals with other members, and I'm 100% confident that it doesn't increase their auction's traffic or end price.  Reason being, most VC members are smart enough to avoid dumbshit prices and bidding wars.  That being said... I think the world would be a better place without members like Fredneck polluting the boards.  Just my honest 2¢.  It's nothing personal, Freddie -- I'm not singling you out.  You are but one of many cancerous members to the forum.

Also under the notes it says "this is a rarer stereo version of this LP with an alterative take of From a buick 6".
How much do these normally sell for?

exactly my thoughts.  the no dead wax problem is compounded by the mixing and mastering.  i think the music on zero sounds fine but the vocals are all distortion

This issue cannot simply be a cartridge alignment issue. That's BS. The problem is maxing the levels in the cutting process. Its so goddamn stupid and unnecessary. They made a bad choice in Stan Getz for this one. The funny thing is that SD and Gish seem to not have any of these types of problems but on the big Kahuna they decide to get dicey and flirt whorey with the red zone and the dead wax at the same time. Recipe for disaster. The first half of most of the discs are great albeit unnecessarily loud but it works. Once you cross the halfway point on all of them it gets progressively more clipped. The only thing that saves most of the sides from getting terrible is the occurrence of quiter dynamic songs falling on those regions close to the inner grooves and dead wax but even on most the songs that sound good on the inside, the vocals are mixed high enough to produce crazy amounts of silibance. The soft clean guitars are ringing nicely but the vocals are turning red.

I know that any record is going to begin losing fidelity as you get closer to the label but this is the most intense and immediate flip I've ever heard on that process. The person cutting should have erred on the side of caution rather than max it for loudness.

i'm gonna regret even responding to this now that its turned into a giant playground slapfight but I can't help but find it sort of interesting that the people who lucked out and have non-distorted copies are somehow personally offended that others did not and have used the most appropriate place here to discuss it.

I definitely got one of the distorted ones and whether its due to 1) not enough deadwax 2) cartridge misalignment 3) black magic, it's sort of irrelevant because at the end of that argument my Side A still sounds hot and distorted.

The snobbery and bullshit attitude from a few of you is the exact reason why so many people find vinyl collectors to be smug elitists and generally resent us and this entire culture that for most is about appreciating hi-fi audio and not just being a douche. You may not care one way or another (and i'm sure you'll be quick to reply that you don't) but it does no good for anyone to be that way.

For the sake of beating a dead horse, I got my copy yesterday from .ca and "Zero" sounds atrocious.  I haven't listened to anything after "Zero", but the beginning of that side of the record sounds fantastic.  It actually prompted me to check my cartridge alignment, and it turns out my cartridge was slightly off.  So that's a plus.  Unfortunately improving the alignment may have made "Zero" sound worse - if possible.  On the bright side the rest of the record sounds even better than my first listen through.

Honestly who gives a shit. People are excited about this! It's a nice set, and there's been a lot going on about it. When a thread is chugging at 65 pages long, it takes on a personality of its own.

As far as the VINYL, it seems like good presses and bad presses are a luck of the draw, regardless if it's a .ca or .com purchase. I'm crossing my fingers for a good one! Will be spinning this tomorrow!

Just listened the first LP and I have to say that I find the whole thing to be a bit in the clipping end but "Zero" was by far the worst quality I've ever heard pressed to vinyl and I'm including any DIY no-name punk 7" that I've ever heard. Just ungodly. By the middle of the song it gets unlistenable and it only gets worse from there til the end just takes a huge shit on your ears. The very end of "To Forgive" is noticeably crappy as well. Though again the whole disc felt too hot.

Haven't attempted the rest of it. Just lost interest.

Well, aren't you just a fancy lady!
I don't know. Congratulations! haha I hope I get a good one. I'm pretty sure my girl got me one for Christmas or Birthday so between that one and my .ca copy, I hope to at least have one diamond in the rough.

I have a YAQIN 100-B amp, and a YAQIN 22-B phono pre amp, both tube. My turntable is a REGA RP6 with a GOLDRING 1042 cartridge.
That's SIAMESE DREAM (original press) spinning on it in the pic.
I will say this...Having only listened to side 1 of the first LP...The first two tracks sounded great. Midway through the 3rd track I Was feeling the crunch. By the end of ZERO, it was pointless for me to keep it since there is another option...
I just went ahead and bought the original MELLON 3LP off eBay. No more reissue problems for me.

Of course it doesn't mean analog automatically sounds better than digital...When there's a manufacturing error it can sound worse. Same with digital. But it has the capacity to sound better.
    And I don't have 4000k cds. I have 4000 lps.
And yes, my setup is cool.
And Billy didn't master the LPs, so he isn't the one who would be calling me. But maybe someone should.
And I don't know if my dick is bigger than yours, but my hearing is obviously better.

I'm 35, have been collecting vinyl for 20 years, have a $2000 turntable and a $1500 all tube amp. I have 4000 vinyl LPs.
Vinyl is not supposed to sound "distorted/fuzzed out". It's supposed to be superior sonically in every way to digital, save for surface noise on the LP. We are not discussing surface noise. We are discussing mastering/pressing defects. If you don't understand it, there's no need to contribute.

I was wrong. This vinyl sounds awful.
Zero may be the worst sounding song, but these have distortion as well: Here is No Why, Bullet With Butterfly Wings, Bodies, Love. Porcelina has multiple "skips". I've played two copies and these issues are present in the same exact spots on both copies. I've read some reports that the EU version doesn't suffer from the same problems.
Seriously, save your money. What a disappointment.

Do you have the record, Gentlesenator? Are you saying this is production distortion, and not mistracking of a cartridge due to poor pressing? Mistracking is a pretty recognizable sound. And everyone is saying the digital version, and previous CD and Vinyl versions do not sound like this.
Honestly, I have not received mine yet. But when there's this much of a stink from people across the board, I'm willing to bet there's an issue.

I checked out Zero and It's pretty bad. I have no problem with IGD and I heard nothing on Oceania. As people have said, no other songs sound this way, just Zero. It's obviously a pressing defect that was overlooked. Probably because it was expensive and would mean delays. Now I just need to make sure i'm in on a replacement program.
Edit: Going through the 1st LP bullet didn't sound so hot either. There were a few times where I thought I heard some distortion. Nothing as obvious or prominent as Zero. I don't agree with Stan Getz decision to spread 12 minutes of music over an entire side of an LP with nearly NO deadwax. I didn't hear any problem with To Forgive, but I would really prefer a smaller tonearm arc to minimize distortion.

^^I think what people are talking about is quality of materials and pressing technology has improved. However pressing is indeed a trade like welding or wood work, and you have to have experience in the field if you're going to do it right.
I just can't help but lol at people criticizing peoples set ups and not the vinyl pressing.

i've had enough friends work in retail to know that the stuff that's marked down on black friday is never really the good stuff anyway. most electronic stores fire sale the crappiest models of stuff they desperately need off the floor before xmas and while it seems like you're getting a brutal deal at the time, if you wait about a month when xmas is over, the actual good stuff will be about the same price.
