  1. Firstly i thought the second yellow that led to Heitinga's red was soft, but under the circumstances, the position on the pitch and the direction Iniesta was traveling in it had to be a yellow really. I thought Van Bommel should have had a straight red card for his challenge from behind on Iniesta in the first half, had it not been the first half of a World Cup final and the official's understandable reluctance to handicap a team after such a short amount of time, he would have been off. Got none of the ball, came in from behind, in most leagues (and probably earlier in the competition) he would have been sent walking for that alone. Also De Jong should have had a straight red for kicking Xabi Alonson in the chest, high foot is a foul as it is but he was so, so late AND his studs were up, i'm sure he was going for the ball but fucking hell, that was a really reckless challenge to even commit to when you're probably going to be second to the ball and it's head height. I don't think the Dutch dominated at any point, they had a few spells of pressure and Robben should have put them ahead but apart from that Spain pretty much stopped them from even touching the ball and had a number of chances themselves. They play in a way that wears teams down gradually rather than going for jugular like Germany for instance so i can understand why they may seem less impressive given their hype. Thanks for taking the time to respond! I really enjoy a good conversation on the topic and that can be hard to find in the US haha. I'm going to have to watch the game again to see that Van Bommel challenge, but I'll take your word for it. Also, I completely forgot about the chest-cleat incident, which you are absolutely right, should have been a red. I assumed it was going to be just as soon as I saw it so I think I dismissed it afterwards. Spain played a very intelligent style of soccer, and although not very exciting, the goal is to win at all costs and they were successful in that. Though it didn't make the best entertainment, their patience and endurance deserve a lot of respect. Saying the Dutch "outplayed" them was incorrect on my part, I just think I was really impressed by them, especially compared to the general opinion before going into the game. EDIT: Didn't see you had posted the Van Brommel clip. Brutal!! Here's what upset me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcGvYgzq6yg&hl=en&fs=1
  2. I'm pretty sure it would take an intense heat source to spark a methane explosion. There is some concern over this with a few African lakes that have high levels of methane and CO2 although it's mostly because they lie on volcanic beds (the same cause of the gas levels). There have been cases of gas releases sweeping into valleys and killing entire small villages. I don't know the southern coast well enough to know if it is very likely to create dead zones, but given the amount of methane I'd say its more probable than an explosion.
  3. I'm interested in what you think should have led to a second red. I agree they were playing over aggressively, but even the tackle the red was pulled for was a dive. Spain saw their intensity early and took advantage. I thought the Dutch outplayed them for at least half of the game, but constantly had their momentum crushed by stoppage in the first half. Oh, Robben also ruined their chances of winning. Spain played well, but all of the hype over their team this year just left me unimpressed by their entire cup performance. At least they won with an excellent goal.
  4. SOL LEWITT. There is an awesome 3-floor exhibit of his work at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (Mass MoCA) in North Adams that will be there for 25 years. A lot of his work was essentially drawn as blueprints with specific details as to size and color. They were intended to be contracted to other artists to be recreated in other spaces. I like the concept and the art itself is all large wall pieces mostly based on patterns and geometry. The walls were actually done by 60ish artists and art students as Lewitt has been dead for a few years, but that was kind of his intention anyway.
  5. After watching Germany's first game I had really good feelings about the team this year. The second game scared me a little, but they were missing some key players. Every game since has made for some great entertainment and I don't expect that to stop after today's game. Awesome! Watching Ghana lose yesterday was one of the most painful things I have ever watched. I was pulling for them so hard and I thought with that last free kick they would win, and then with the penalty kick I was sure they had it. If I ever run into Suarez (dick who got carded for the handball/acted like a baby the whole game) I'm gonna take something heavy to those buck teeth of his.
  6. IMPORTANT NOTE: MOVIE RULES IN ALL DIMENSIONS!!!
  7. If by recent you mean since they stopped using red and blue lenses you're going to be blown away (or annoyed as some people really just don't like it), if you mean since 2 years ago, it's not going to be anything new. The only improvements I've noticed over the past couple years has been depth perception and clarity.
  8. The only thing I've heard that works, aside from using other people's urine, are pills you can take that hold the thc from passing through your urine for a limited time frame. It only works for about 4 or 5 hours, but I've had two friends who said that it worked for them. Take one and about an hour later you shouldn't be pissing out thc. However, lots of water, cranberry juice and not smoking for a little while should do the trick for someone as lean as you. Someone with more body fat is likely to retain tch for much longer.
  9. I can't say for sure, but if by chance you've only seen movies in IMAX 3D then you might want to try digital 3D. The image is noticeably more vibrant and crisp and instead of having a lot of pop-out there is just more depth all around. However, 3D just doesn't do it for some folks! All of that said; Toy Story 3 was awesome. I was very very very surprised. I wanted to see it, but I really didn't have high expectations despite the rave reviews it's garnered (98% on Rotten Tomatoes and 9.1 on Metacritic). The movie did not lack substance on any face and it really kept me entertained the whole time. I highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys this style of movie, especially if you liked the first Toy Story.
  10. "Keep flapping those wings, damn it! This is a film here people, not The Land Before Time!"
  11. I back Ghastly City Sleep pretty hard despite not really liking their full length. The ep they put out first is seriously awesome, though. Also, I didn't see them mentioned but sorry if I missed them. Ef. They are really great as well, though I'm yet to hear any recent things they've done.
  12. Yes. Her husband beat the shit out of me.
  13. im right there with you, but i gotta say -- i dont regret spending $60 on this one. The $60 is normally what stops me from buying more than two or three games a year, so I try to make ti worth it when I do. There is no doubt that with how huge this game is and the amount of time you can just spend playing multiplayer that it is well worth $60. It's like going to the movies 6 times but getting 5 times the hours of entertainment.
  14. This is the insignia they've been using around here:
  15. I totally read the thread title and was like "LOL. VC BONER!" figuring it was a joke. I don't have much interest in either party, but I'm definitely intrigued by the possibilities this brings.
  16. I was interested in exactly what this was so I read pretty much the whole site. I also figured it couldn't just yeast because that would make such an unappealing product that no one would drink it/no one would buy it. So: Ingredients: Our proprietary yeast blend, organic evaporated cane juice, emulsifier I'm not surprised really, but at least it does contain more than just yeast. Kind of cool though, it's inspired by a European beverage made with fresh pressed grape juice and yeast. As far as value goes, it's an excellent price. For $10 + about $4 for a large bottle of juice you end up with 64 oz. of a drink that is about 2-3% higher abv than most wines. I still maintain minimal interest in trying it.
  17. +1!!! My favorites would have to be blueberry cake, maple frosted, and butter nut.
  18. Start Here is going to be so killer on vinyl that it might actually fill the void for a little while longer.
  19. Nail on the head, dude. They have yet to really own up for making them so shitty in the first place, so much so that they haven't to stop suckering people into getting them or making a new model. The biggest problem with doing this stuff in a VW is that the dash console is absurdly built.
  20. I'm not an expert on this stuff, but have done a little of it before in my old Camry (way easier than a VW) so I can't say everything here is 100%. I had thought about going all out and getting one of these in my Passat. Luckily I looked into it before hand and saw people complaining a ton. I opted not to get it. You certainly don't have to be dumb to have ended up with one of these as it sounds like a great idea. The only ways I can think of that you could run an aux from the glove box would to: use a conversion box that runs a (can't remember the name of the connector) cable to the receiver input on the back of the stereo that then has an 1/8" input or to forget the aux and get a 3rd party stereo that allows some sort of other plug in. One of my friend's got a Rabbit when they were giving away guitars with them and the deal was that there is an aux input in the glove box so you could technically play the guitar through the car speakers. She just uses it for her ipod. It's possible to do both of these, but trying to dissect the car and run your own aux is going to be tough. My other friend has a pretty nice non-factory setup in his Jetta where he uses a cable that plugs into the synching/charging input on the bottom of his ipod and he uses the controls on the faceplate to sort through albums, playlists, etc.
  21. I was 16, so 7 years ago. My parents got it for my when I got my driver's license.
