  1. Was at home most of the weekend, so I got some things watched

6:45 - starts out promising enough, but gets worse at such a slow rate that by the time I realized it was awful I only had ~20 minutes left.

Alligator - It has a giant alligator and Robert Forster, what more could you want?!  This was a ton of fun and a perfect movie to recover from the dud that was 6:45.

Breeder - Based on the synopsis and poster, I was expecting a sci-fi/horror movie and it's very much not that.  It doesn't quite hit the extremes of Martyrs/A Serbian Film/etc, but it's close.  Has some Hostel vibes too.  In terms of quality, it's a decent movie, but nothing fantastic.  Worth a watch if you're the mood for that type of film

On the non-horror side of things, I really liked Licorice Pizza.

I'll jump into the fray and say that those Tennis System albums did not move me at all.  I don't get it.  It's too... weird for me.  I want my shoegaze to be relatively straightforward.

I can't get into Tennis System at all either.  To me, it sounds like pop punk ran through a shoegaze filter.  I'm guessing that's primarily due to the vocals though.

    - Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022): seems like most people didn’t like this one but it didn’t mind it.  Some really cool kills and the soundtrack was awesome.  I also thought it was interesting that they pretty much made Leatherface a sympathetic character in this.  And I think this is the point a lot of people missed.  I couldn’t stand any of the main characters and I couldn’t have cared less if they died.

I mostly enjoyed it!  I thought it was a really fun slasher, but it wasn't necessarily a good TCM.  Kind of thought it would've made a better Friday the 13th or maybe Halloween movie.  Definitely some cool kills!  The first one was something I don't think I've seen before.

  4. I watched Scream (2022) last night and it's a bit of a mixed bag, but I found it enjoyable enough.   Some of the dialogue is awful and Melissa Barrera's performance is pretty bad.   I think this plagues most reboot/sequel hybrids, but it leans a little too heavily on homages to the original and probably spends too much time with Dewey/Sydney/Gale and not enough on the new cast.   On the plus side, they got the meta stuff right.  It's got a similar look and feel to the originals as well.

Going to watch TCM tonight.  I'm cautiously optimistic, but that seems to be a franchise than no one gets right.

  5. Some updates from Rosenberg's SubStack

Any speculation what the 5 LPs will be?
    My guess is:
    2 LPs : standard
2 LPs : picture disc mixes
    1 LP : demos

I'm thinking the picture disc mixes will be included.  Demos is a good guess.  I could see remixes or live tracks being the last disc as well.

I have an older pressing and a copy of the picture discs, so I think that last disc would have to be real tasty for me to double dip.

  7. I too watched Slapface this weekend!  I didn't love it, but it was a decent way to spend part of a Friday evening.

I also watched Ebola Syndrome and it's a wild ride!  Mid-90s Chinese splatter film.  It starts strong and mostly maintains that momentum.

Lastly, I watched The Runner.  More of a music video / horror short hybrid than a proper short film.  I like Boy Harsher enough that I thought it was worth the watch.  It's about 40 minutes and goes pretty quick.

Is 3 totally skippable?  I only saw the first two but was thinking I'll just watch all four of them around the time the new one is up for rental.

I want to say you'd be fine skipping it, but it's also been 3-4 years since I watched all of them in a row.  At a minimum, you should probably read the plot outline on wikipedia before starting 4 haha.

Just saw the new Scream. I'm not super familiar with the franchise other than the original but I enjoyed it for what it was. The meta commentary and callbacks to the first were a nice touch.

With the exception of Scream 3, the franchise is pretty solid.   I feel like 4 rivals the original.  Haven't seen the new one yet, but I'm looking forward to it!
