  1. I'm kinda surprised that everyone classifies these movies/scores as Studio Ghibli. I think of them as Miyazaki movies first and foremost (he wrote and directed all three, after all). I'm surprised even Mondo used that classification, honestly. Not that I'm complaining, I just find it interesting and somewhat surprising.
  2. They're different. Howl's Moving Castle version pressed on PURPLE and PINK vinyl. Princess Mononoke version pressed on BLUE and RED vinyl. Spirited Away version version pressed on YELLOW and GREEN vinyl.
  3. Yeah, since the art has all three covers inside I'm surprised to see so many people getting all three. But whatever floats ya.
  4. Is everyone defaulting to Spirited Away because it's their favorite or because of the art? Just curious. Spirited Away is one of my favorite movies so that's my reason (plus the art is beautiful).
  5. Same. First Mondo order and I thought it'd be gone, but I've been stalking the Twitter account. Super psyched for this. Spirited Away owns.
  6. Wow, I don't know what's worse, the guy ripping off that idiotic screed to prove a point or the guy who wrote it in the first place. I love Tim Buckley and the Beatles. Why do you have to draw a line between what sold and what doesn't? It's true that hype and popularity are often bad signs of artistic merit. That's all the more reason to celebrate the rare artists who can achieve both. Also, anyone who makes the argument that "fill in the blank" band had better musicians in it than the members of The Beatles is missing the point. Do you think anyone is sitting around making the argument that Ringo Starr is rock's greatest drummer? Bands aren't supposed to be like some stupid fucking all-star team. They have their own personalities that define them and their music, and no band in history has a clearer personality, outstanding personal narrative or incredible sense of musical evolution as The Beatles. And again, people are allowed not to like them if they have their reasons. Sure, taste is subjective. You can trash pop music as if whatever you listen to is "above" it (even though most common musical styles have at least some strong roots in pop music). But you're not allowed to not like them if you haven't listened to them and don't have a clue what you're talking about. It's like people who hate that Citizen Kane is regarded as one of the best films ever made but refuse to watch it because it's old, black and white and presumably "boring."
  7. The Beatles are a lot of things, but they haven't been "cool" since 1968.
  8. Wow. This thread. It's one thing to have bad taste. But must you shove your bad taste in everyone's face while you clap yourself on the back? It makes you look like you want a medal for not loving something universally beloved and it's kinda obnoxious. I haven't read a single good reason why anyone doesn't like The Beatles. "I don't like it" is the closest, and if that's honestly true (and you've honestly given them a chance, fine) but I suspect people who say "I don't like it" haven't really tried to listen to them because of preconceived notions, like "they're old," or "they're bubblegum nonsense" or "ewww pop music" or "they're not threatening enough!" As if good music has to be "threatening." What the hell does that mean? Do some fans of music not really appreciate good hooks? Clever lyrics? Catchy choruses? Sweeping musical evolution? Is your cool card going to be revoked if you happen to listen to music with pop music trappings? The thing that really drives me crazy is the whole "before my time" bullshit argument. You know what? Everything worth a damn is before your time. Chocolate chip cookies are before your time. Ice cream, puppies, Shakespeare? All before your time. There's a reason why people still love all that stuff.
  9. That bundle deal where they let you pick three records (including the new one) for $50 is quite nice. Needed Hissing Fauna on Vinyl anyway. I have Sunlandic Twins so I'll grab Satanic Panic too. That'll be a fun mail day.

  11. Anyone know why this got pushed back or what the new release date is?
  12. I could have sworn I've seen it on Discogs before, but I just checked and yeah, nothing. Did anyone ever see the RSD single Superchunk put out this year? I don't even think my local shop got a copy (the same one where I found This Summer).
  13. Yeah, most of PJ's albums are my white whales, especially Rid of Me. They're certainly not all available in stores and you can find them on ebay for over a hundred bucks. Be careful, though. I've pre-ordered a copy of Rid of Me before via Music Direct and they just kept pushing the release date back months at a time. The June release has already been pushed back to August. I'll believe a lot of this when I see it.
  14. Great, thank you. I've been watching the pre-order for this like a hawk. PO'd immediately. Unless they release a dozen clunkers in a row, I will always order early with this band.
  15. This thread is quite the circle jerk of excellent taste, isn't it? I mean I don't think it's the greatest song ever but calling it "one of the worst songs you've ever heard?" Come on.
  16. Yeah, fuck, I missed this completely! I found a copy of their first album at a used record store not too long ago and it made my year. Incredible group.
  17. Of course it's lavish waste. It's not as if I need people to point that out to me as if it's never occurred to me before, especially in the midst of such troubling news all week. Besides,I thought it was fairly obvious that i was making a joke out of it in the first place. And I never insinuated that RSD was my number one concern during this crisis. I would have been disappointed to miss it but it goes beyond just collecting limited edition pieces of plastic for me. I have a really nice tradition with my wife and my brother-in-law of going every year, waiting in line, digging through the bins and getting brunch after. And if some young dipshit terrorist with a pressure cooker and pipebomb were to wreck that for us, sure it doesn't compare with people's safety or well being but it would still suck. I think it's fair for me to express that without some snide dickhead jumping down my throat while stating the obvious.
  18. Hey, thanks asshole! I've only been up for 30 hours straight thanks to police sirens, frantic news footage and choppers and have only been locked inside all day to boot. Forgive me for wanting this shit resolved so I can enjoy something I've been looking forward to for months in addition to having my friends, family and neighbors being safe.
