  1. Wasn't it limited to 1000 copies or something? Could they be sold out?
  2. This is seriously AOTY material. I've heard they plan to release a vinyl version later this year. How many sides / records will it be? UGH it's going to be so expensive.
  3. They were selling the boot at the record store I went to in Austin on RSD. I confirmed it was the boot with one of the guys working there and he said yes it was but also claimed this is the "official / unofficial version of the album." He said he doubted we'd see another release and that it was done by the same people who did the Channel Orange bootleg, which he claimed was also the "official / unofficial release." When I asked what he meant by that, he said the artists were letting the albums go the bootleg route intentionally to cut through the red tape of the studio pressing them because they apparently wanted to release both albums in uber-expensive box sets. This could have been complete BS, but I also wouldn't be surprised if this sadly ended up being another "Chanel Orange" situation and I thought I'd pass it along either way.
  4. Who's blindly hating it? I said I liked the album and the person who kicked off this particular thread of conversation said they thought the new song was better than anything on Local Business. That's not hate, it's an opinion.
  5. I like the album a lot, but some of you guys are being way too kind to Local Business and this whole "you should pay closer attention to it," and "you only didn't like it because it wasn't the Monitor II" nonsense reeks of condescension.
  6. I like Gorillaz but hated The Good, The Bad and the Queen. Still think this sounds more like Blur than either of those. It may have some traces of Think Tank in there, but I like Think Tank and think it's underrated.
  7. I'm surprised people don't think it sounds like a Blur album. It sounds like a natural extension of the self-titled and 13 to me.
  8. Absolutely worth it. But know what you're getting into. They have moments of greatness and moments of complete sloppiness, but that's the band in a nutshell. They're also funny and fun as hell.
  9. That's the weirdest thing about this for me. At it's core, the concept of listening to the same song performed live for six hours is kind of neat, but vinyl is the absolute worst way to experience that. It seems like the faster you can go from one version to the next, the more you can compare the variations. Having to flip sides and change the player every every fifteen minutes or so totally gets in the way of that. And the fact that there's no download code with it? This is just really, really odd.
  10. When he gets his doctorate I hear he's going to change it to Dr. Vinyl.
  11. This album flows so beautifully that mixing up the track record would just kill it. Probably easier to boot that way, but I don't know what they were thinking. Album is too good for a boot.
  12. That Kuti box set is unreal by the way. I've been listening to it all week and it's just an incredible collection of his work. Sounds fantastic too.
  13. A couple people have mentioned Stop Making Sense, but I think The Name of This Band is Talking Heads is even better. Stop Making Sense works better as a movie then an album.
  14. I'm excited for it. I'll just buy it when it comes out. At least I won't have to pay for shipping.
  15. I've got that blood splattered original. It's surprisingly one of my more valuable records. Picked it up second hand for ten bucks. Great soundtrack, too. One of Tarantino's best.
  16. Boys and Girls will be nice, but yeah, come on already and reissue Separation Sunday. Their debut too.
  17. Second the Meters recommendation. Anything with Allen Toussaint producing or performing is good too. I got his Southern Nights album last year for Christmas and I return to it often. I bought the Shuggie Otis RSD album a few years ago and that really holds up too. There's this Les McCann album from the mid-70's, kind of jazz/funk fusion. This song has always been a funky standout to me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKNF25K7PCw
  18. This is a seriously underrated album that I feel like a lot of people write-off because they only know the title track (the rest of the album is much moodier than that song). This and Wah-Wah are the two James albums I'd love to own. Unfortunately it's a bit pricy for an import...
  19. If anyone sees a copy of FLOOD somewhere and wouldn't mind picking one up for me, I'd gladly pay cost / shipping for it (as long as the price / shipping isn't outrageous). Thanks.
  20. Just curious again: When you say it's not emotional, do you mean it's not emotional to you, or there's no emotion in the music?
  21. I'm only asking because I'm curious: what specifically don't you like about Sleater-Kinney?
  22. Great album and I can't recommend seeing his live show enough. Tons o' fun.
  23. Yeah, big thanks. I was going to try to pick one of these up at their show in November, but I figure I'll order it now in case they run out.
