I keep seeing you in more and more threads these days

Regaining single status during a quarantine significantly opened my budget up, so for now I'm back in the game

why have you forsaken the scrobbles, amigo?

Logged in now and looks like my account had been frozen cos it needed a new password, probably why I haven't scrobbled anything in over a year. Might be time to remedy that

  2. My standard was delivered from Amazon today. For anyone who hasn't ordered a copy yet and is considering it, the Amazon copy is the 2xLP on transparent magenta. I'm actually pretty stoked that both are magenta, since RTJ3 is 2xLP on gold, I like the consistency.

There is an indie variant for those who would prefer that, a small blob of magenta inside clear. I just preferred to not leave my house, tbh.

This all reads like a true Sumac experience, nice.  From my experience, all their albums have taken quite a while to digest and I feel as though the explosive moments pack so much more of a punch when they're a payoff to the more restrained and experimental passages.  Eventually it all begins to congeal with every winding passage and left-turn making sense.  That's always my favorite moment in exploring a new Sumac record – that turning point – where it all magically kinda' clicks into place and feels like a familiar journey start to finish.

I'm seeing photos of the gold circulate and it's a beaut.  Almost a little translucent on top of having those nice ripples.  Your copy sound pretty good?  Kind of a bummer to hear the jacket itself is so minimal despite the incredible art.

A little translucent, yep, and it's actually got a metallic sparkle to it, which I don't find is always the case with gold records, so that had me pretty excited. But, yeah, it plays perfectly, no skips or pops. The bass in the intro track was intense, scared the crap out of my dog when it kicked in...I might have had the volume a little high, but it's Sumac.

So glad to hear it sounds solid.  What are you making of the album so far compared to the rest of their catalog?  They haven’t released a bad or even mediocre album in my books.

Only have one complete listen thus far, but right away I can say this isn't as straight-up aggressive as their previous releases, especially early in the record. There are moments of chaos that seem to be emphasized by the longer passages of dulled vocals and eerie guitar work, but it doesn't bust out of the gate like The Task,  Image of Control (I), or Thorn in the Lion's Paw. It will take some time to digest, as per usual with Sumac. But I will be interested to hear other people's thoughts when they get their copies.

On a different note, I kinda wish Thrill Jockey would have made this a gatefold and charged a little more if necessary, tbh. The inner cardboard sleeve arrived with the glue already worn away, so I will need to repair that at some point. And the outer cardboard sleeve is just big enough that it makes it tricky putting it in a poly sleeve. But the records themselves look and sound fantastic.

Lastly, if anyone is worried about their copy taking too long to arrive and would like my download code, lemme know.

so what is the deal with the /100s not being considered deluxe versions? what is the difference between those and the /500 and /1000 that are considered "deluxe?"

"All first press Relapse.com LPs come with a limited edition-exclusive 20 page LP sized booklet not included in the standard LPs.  Super-limited, special edition versions come in a custom designed, re-sealable mylar polybag."

Yeah, looks like you get a booklet from ordering on Relapse. And the /100s and /200s are like $3 more because they come with the polybag.
