onwardempire got a reaction from poweredbytrust in Out now: Sigur Ros - ( ) CLEAR vinyl limited to 4000
Just got these (AgB, ( ) ) both in today then read this post so decided to document the tracks as I go through. Only have time for ( ) tonight:
A1-3 crystal clear
B1 - a bit shaky in the right channel throughout, though parts of the track sound great.
B2 - really crisp even at the quiet start and end
C1 - rough in the right channel, particularly when the song starts ramping up, this sounds spectacular when it really kicks in, however you can tell the noise is still lingering in the background
C2 - beautiful when quiet, when that noise kicks in doe :/ painful, dreadful, gah
D - the rumor mill is true, there is something not right here either, a bit squirly in the quieter parts when he's doing those icelandic howls or whatever they are, nowhere near as bad as C2. The end is a quasi-distorted mess (although I actually kinda dig what the fault has caused here) entirely listenable and enjoyable
If you're not in a rush to have this I would definitely give it a pass and see if the US press resolves some of these issues. For me I'll be keeping it as I got it at the cheaper price, C2 is the only extremely distorted track, but that happens to be my personal least favourite on the album anyway.

The 13th Floor Elevators - "The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators" - (1966/first pressing/stereo)
So a dude locally found this for $20. I have a bunch of NOLA soul/funk 45's that I got for free. I've been selling them and I've made $200 from it. I paid $200 for this because it's VG++. But I pretty much got it free because I just transferred the funds to him in paypal. Either way, never thought I would own one. White Whale achieved!

onwardempire reacted to just a normal guy kevin in Angry messages and PMs from sellers/buyers
Some of y'all are silly.
No one is out there plotting a scheme to destroy your eBay or Discogs side business. There is no magic computer glitch that allows eBay to take your money and leave you hanging. Returns happen. Neutral feedback happens. It's part of running a business. An adult should be able to process a return without being emotionally wounded and instantly developing an elaborate theory that he or she is being scammed.
Now, if we're talking the Illumaniti, yes, they are OUT THERE and they WILL try and mind control us through images of bull horns in Rihanna music videos. But a majority of buyers are normal people who want the thing that was described in the listing and see it as normal and not a personal attack to file a refund request when it isn't. And sellers want to sell and only deal with cases where they made a mistake or error.
Thanks for the fellow stories of being blasted for being a buyer/seller. It can be a jungle out there every so often and it's nice to hear from cool ladies and dudes who are not into the tribal warfare method of record buying/selling.
The hobby is alive!

Having played in bands ranging from Counterfit to Finch to Weatherbox, the members of Helen Earth Band have a vast and storied history. The group is one of those rare musical entities that appeal to both the musician and the music listener. The San Diego-based band combines powerful melodies with a striking depth creating music that is accessible, yet tastefully complex. Helen Earth Band chases symmetry and pushes their music to the pinnacle while using space and restraint to broaden the dynamics within each song. The band abounds with complex rhythms, textured guitar, intertwining harmonies, and atmospheric undertones. Yet the songs are never betrayed; only enhanced by the band’s ambitious and keen musical ear. Practicing a true independent spirit, the band has blazed their own trail strictly on their terms. Helen Earth Band is indeed rare and refreshing in the most memorable way.

Awesome! I think this record is leaps and bounds better than Our Own Ghost City, although that record is killer too!

onwardempire got a reaction from jtcohenour in What's your White Whale record?
So my white whale finally arrived! 2 years of searching and I luckily managed to grab it. Couldn't wait so I got my gf to send me pics at work.
I normally check any discogs emails I get, mostly its the same stuff from my wantlist that I intend to get around to buying. One email came through literally while I was setting the alarm on my phone to go to sleep at shortly before 1am. Then I noticed this right at the bottom, panicked, went to discogs and bought it straight away. Bearing in mind it had last been sold in December 2013 I imagine it would have went by the morning had I not checked.
The beautiful kicker, was that I got it for £20, so what like $32? For something I probably would've paid serious money for had it come up earlier. I feel like I have won the lottery. On to the next whale!

I really don't want to jinx this, but I'm just very excited.
After my two year search I may have secured the whale... The harpoon has fixed (discogs purchase), the seller is very reputable, and my payment is now marked as paid.
Now all I need is for it to ship and arrive safely, then start thinking up a new signature....

Yeah hi, let me comment on all pressings, both UK and US. They all suck 100% and sound like muddy sewer water because they are The Smiths albums. You're welcome. -

My aqua arrived safe and sound a few days ago. I've spun it a few times already, sounds great. Still bummed about missing that splatter though.

onwardempire reacted to Fowty Dollaz in PO: Empire! Empire! (I Was a Lonely Estate) - What It Takes to Move Forward
I think one thing that I really like about this rerelease (and others like it) is the bonus tracks only being on the D side. That way you can keep it true(ish because rearranged) to your memory and not play side D OR play side D.

Went with splatter instead. I love it when vinyl matches the artwork.
