Funny, I had strayed away from him for a bit because I wasn't really into the heavier leanings toward rock when he first did, but hearing Cold Roses was what brought me back to him because I thought it was the best roots/country sounding work he had done in years.

For me it has to be that I was into Whiskeytown long before he had any solo albums out, so I look fondly on it as his first solo effort and love a good many of the tracks on it. I will certainly agree with you that later albums show true progression and amazing talent as it flourished, but that never dismisses the validity of where they start from to me.

Nice sounding re-issue. Super clean vinyl. Very happy with this. Nice to finally own a copy of this on LP without having to invest to acquire.

How's the quality of the packaging and inner sleeves?

I was wondering that myself about number order. I was thinking the lowest numbers were either kept for archive, or given to those they held back 150 boxes for. Knowing the boxes are just random records, and not in order of which was printed off the line first, I think it may only be us fans who covet the lower numbers. I have noticed that everything 200 and up seems to be what those up north have been showing.

Doesn't strike me as odd that something hand numbered could get screwed up this way, especially thinking that they had multiple people working on the operation.

It was the first thing I ever purchased from eBay, and I wasn't a vinyl buyer then so I remember thinking $19 plus shipping was crazy for a record with 2 songs on it lol

Picked this locally, was wondering if any others noticed a fair amount of surface noise in the quieter parts of the record? It's not affecting the quality when playing the songs but those fade outs and quieter moments in some songs show it's there very clearly.

Got mine today as well. Beautiful copy and sounds wonderful. I didn't get into this album until long after it was out, but it's solid to me like all the older releases I like (having first saw them when Fuel for the Hate Game was brand new). This one ended up becoming one of my top picks to go running with in the mornings.

Just got this from Luna: I am writing to let you know that we were given mucho mis-information on how many of the vinyl films box set we were set to receive. as it stands right now, we simply did not get enough to fulfill any orders, outside of the physical retail location. yes. i know. it completely bunk to pre-order something—only to be told it is not going to happen. i am upset about this and tried, to no avail this week at a national meeting, to get more. no. go.

It would probably cost an arm to ship it. I honestly didn't think it would turn out to be as solid as it did. I'm very happy for my first try. Next up, cassette box!

I've got Red House Painter's Songs for a Blue Guitar, both black & blue, but have only ever listened to the black one. It took me a while to really get a sense of how bad it sounds, but it's flat like floor tile compared to any Vinyl Films Kozelek release. The highs are just so anti-climatic and it's just as if you're listening to the CD to me.
