Official Record Store Day Thread
serotonein replied to timsimmons's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Yeah, I was sure Best Coast would be the most difficult (got one from Zia), but can't find Uncle Tupelo anywhere -
I bought Besides and Joke from Juno, and they arrived within a few weeks. It looks like both Hubcap and Dog & Pony are available.

PO Now: Waxahatchee- Saint Cloud
serotonein replied to Alan P's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
And "apple red vinyl" limited to 400 from a record store in her hometown https://seasickbham.com/collections/frontpage/products/waxahatchee-saint-cloud-lp-seasick-exclusive-apple-red -
Always good if you can get records for less, but it should be noted that Merge offers free U.S. shipping with every order regardless of total

Soccer Mommy - Color Theory (2/28)
serotonein replied to timsimmons's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
I think that's likely, but that there's also a chance that the tri-color is the label/artist exclusive, and the indie is similar to the reissue of Root Down, random solid of blue or gray or yellow. Only one shop, and it's in the UK, is saying that's the case, so there's definitely a decent chance that they're pressing a bunch of the same "limited" tri-color and that's all anyone can get, and maybe there'll be a black repress later on if necessary. -
Soccer Mommy - Color Theory (2/28)
serotonein replied to timsimmons's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
No idea if this will also apply to US indie stores, or even if this description is correct, but found this note for the pre-order with Banquet Records. It could be one of those situations where you don't know the color until you open it. "Indies exclusive LP is on 'grey or blue or yellow' coloured vinyl." https://www.banquetrecords.com/soccer-mommy/color-theory/LVR00855 -

Should clarify on this point - they made it very clear when they eliminated the Crate subscription that those of us already on it were grandfathered in, but if we cancelled it, that was it; no going back. Being able to avoid crap like AM makes staying on Crate even sweeter - not remastered, generic "indie"/garage rock on a color variant when there are a ton of inexpensive copies already available in stores and online... I genuinely like being a member but this one might as well be Vinyl Me Urban Outfitters. -

15 year anniversary... crazy I'm glad it's finally getting a pressing; excited to see him on the Living Room tour in a couple months -

They were originally talking about early Fall, but now they've updated that to trying their best to have Classics as a standalone by the end of the year. Hip hop will follow a bit after. -

The side subscription will eventually be available without also having a VMP ROTM sub, yes. I was responding to the idea that people can expect individual albums in Classics or Hip Hop subs to be in the store because that hasn't occurred so far. Last week they were said they were aiming to have a standalone Classics sub available to the public in September, and Hip Hop soon after, and then yesterday posted that they're doing everything possible for it to happen "by the end of the year". I'm on Crate so I've been tracking the progress. -

Not sure if this is true, at least initially. The VMP Classics side sub was restricted to a set number of members and none of those albums have made it to the store. They are supposedly going to open up both Classics and Hip Hop to the general public as a standalone subscription next month. -
PO now: Superchunk "s/t" repress
serotonein replied to LIGMA_BALLZ's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Just email them; usually very responsive & most labels hold a few back for damage replacements. They accidentally sent me the black instead of the white & orange swirl of Ivy Tripp for that pre-order, and I received the correct one within a week. -
While they'll probably be back up next week, I have seen one Loser edition completely sell out ahead of release & not even make it into Seattle record shops - the reissue for Built to Spill's There's Nothing Wrong With Love

PO: Ringo Deathstarr - Colour Trip/Sparkler REPRESS
serotonein replied to dvv's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
If it really is manufacturer delay, then it's the same thing that's been happening to just about every small label for the last couple years, especially if it's a special project and that's the only business they're giving the pressing plant (e.g., just about every record funded through Kickstarter, the Luna box set). Larger indies like Sub Pop and Merge have been mostly immune, but even they've had delays at times. The fact that nobody with the label could be bothered to respond to emails or posts, and ASAP after being called out by the band on Twitter, is the reason they won't have much success funding future projects. -

It'll be out of 10 now, since I don't want Beck I'm on Crate and I've picked up the Big Bill Broonzy, Wells Fargo, and BadBadNotGood for this year so far. I ended up with 7 from last year's selections. -

Yes for exclusives, but they still don't provide pressing #'s for AOTM. I've found the AOTM selections very underwhelming this year. I've only wanted 3 (upped to 4 if including Pinkerton for which I already have the 4xLP version) -

I'm on a Crate membership and bought it this morning. It did take awhile to show up in the store, but still shows as in-stock to me. -
Record Store Day 2016
serotonein replied to itsgoodtobefree's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Prices look comparable to SB, a few $ higher on some and lower on others. I've known people to get in line at SB as early as 10p the night before, but they were there alone for a long stretch, and it doesn't start really filling up until ~7 or 8a on Saturday morning. -

I go to Sonic Boom, but I understand why people go to Easy Street, Silver Platters, Everyday, etc. instead. On the plus side, they've got an updated RSD inventory and cost on their site, so you'll know what to expect. https://www.sonicboomrecords.com/ Because it is small, the owner only lets in a certain number of people at a time, so it behooves you to show up early. They regularly open at 10a on Saturdays & won't change that for RSD, so even if you're in line early you'll be there longer than at other stores.
