  1. Sure, it's not fancy but it works. Well, sometimes. It's a BSR turntable. I'm not sure what year it is. And yes, it's rather dusty. And yes, that's a Harmonicats album. I love thrift stores.
  2. No, they were not 180 gram and I haven't changed anything on the record player since I came into possession of it. yeah, id start out by checking into a new needle. also, get yourself a shure stylus pressure gauge while youre at it. its a definite must. id recommend a "micro linear" stylus. heres a good place to start: www.needledoctor.com also www.lpgear.com Thanks for the tips ya'll. I'll be sure to make some investments once I find a freaking job.
  3. I've never had a NOFX album touch my record player. I'm feel completely satisfied with that. No, the cartridge does not touch the record. It's only happened a few times. From what I can tell by all the comments, it's probably a bad needle. I assume that if it were the tone arm, it would scratch records consistently, right? I've never set the weight of the cartridge. It's an old record player so perhaps it's not functioning 100%. Hmmm.
  4. I have a strange problem in which a few of my records are being scratched when I play them while others remain unscathed. I'm too scared to use it now. This has happened a handful of times and has occurred infrequently. It has affected my Decemberists vinyl more than any other. Here are some pictures: The grooves are scratched as it plays. There are three long scratch marks near the top that follow the grooves for an inch and a half or so. There are more towards bottom of the record too. They still play fine but it's a glaring mark and I'm afraid that it will get worse. I am no vinyl expert and I'm not sure what makes this happen. Is it the needle wearing out? Or is it something else? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  5. I hope it's colored. I'm really excited that they actually followed through and released the vinyl through their webstore instead of Victory's website.
  6. Since the lead singer for the Swingin Utters/Filthy Thieving Bastards does screen printing, he made jackets for his team that said Filthy Thieving Bowlers. I want one of those. I would also like to attend this.
  7. I moved to California for 2 & 1/2 months to visit my brother after I got fired. I moved back about a month ago and can't find a job anywhere. I've been unemployed since the end of October. It's been driving me crazy. I thought the post-grad life would be better than this. So to keep sane, I've picked up exercising, trying to actually play the guitar/bass, watching as many movies as I can, wishing I could play records without ruining them and rearranging my living space. I sure hope the economy picks up. It seems that I as well as many others need more record money.
  8. +Job interviews. -I finally got around to listening to a 7" from This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb and it turns out that the wrong record is inside of it. It's a Wednesdays split with The Immortal Lee County Killers. Fuck.
  9. I actually missed a couple of songs (3?) because I wasn't sure how much space my memory card would have. The second to last song took half a gig to record, and that's not on the highest level. I was wondering how many VC members were at the shows. We should have a universal symbol or something to identify each other.
  10. I heard in an interview that Steve Zahn auditioned for a part a long while back but I guess it didn't happen. That's a pity because I'm in love with that man. I admit it before everyone, right here.
  11. The picture is really dark because Kepi Ghoulie had the lights turned down for his set. And the audio is not the greatest because this is just my digital camera, not a digital video camera. The next step is to upload the Kepi Ghoulie videos, a few where he's backed by AJJ. Oh, and these are from the show at the Che Cafe in San Diego/La Jolla. These turned out better.
  12. Andrew Jackson Jihad paid tribute to Jay Retard by covering "Falling All Away" during the Riverside set a little while ago. The song is coupled with "Candle in the Wind (Ben's Song)".
  13. A house. A car: A new bass: Money is not an issue, right? And I'd pay my favorite bands to press things on vinyl.
  14. I wonder if the Cootees album is glow in the dark or not.
  15. I received mine yesterday. It's glorious. I wept inside. Tears of joy inside my cranium.
  16. Andrew Jackson Jihad - Live in Gainsville Fest Recording Mighty sweet.
  17. I was seriously thinking about buying that Ghost Mice record. I should have... I so should have... Damn money problems. The Less Than Jake Pie Tin looks intriguing as always.
  18. I've seen them in Chicago and Hollywood and both shows had a mighty handful of youngsters (Hollywood specifically). Having to crouch down in the skank circle so you don't look too out of place is somewhat of an uncomfortable experience. It's not going to stop me from going to the shows by any means. And I have to admit that having Santa save the Aquabats and the kids from a possessed tortilla chip is one of the most magical things I've ever seen. And that's all I have to say about that.
  19. Just the simple fact that this is part of the deal scares the hell out of me: "Under the deal, the merged entity will be under a 10-year court order prohibiting it from retaliating against venues that choose to sign ticket-selling contracts with competitors. It also must allow venues that sign deals elsewhere to take consumer ticketing data with them." I enjoy going to the House of Blues but I utterly despise ticketmaster. Other venues (The Metro in Chicago) have moved to smaller ticket vendors, which gives me hope.
  20. "Hey there Salinger, what did you do? Just when the world was looking for you To write anything that meant anything You told us you were through. And it's been years since you passed away But I see no plaque, and I see no grave And I can't help believing that you wanted it that way."
  21. +1. Love live the Aquabats! But I must say that being the only person over the age of 19 (aside from parents) at shows gets a little awkward. Or it's an opportunity for some... ... ...
  22. Edgar Allen Poe? Some historians believe his untimely death was due to alcoholism.
  23. There is a section at the RISC store for vinyl. I hope the pressing(s) are at least colored. I read earlier that Victory will be released the CDs and the RISC Group (Pentimento) will be doing the vinyl. I have high hopes either way.
  24. It was a good show. So were the San Diego and San Francisco shows, with San Francisco being my favourite. But if it isn't my luck that the Filthy Thieving Bastards played that night, one of the bands I've always wanted to see. And now I'm back in Illinois. Fuck. I recorded some clips from all the shows. I'll post the links eventually.
