keep in mind these are aussie dollars, which aren't worth as much as our powerful US dollar. and if you order from the USA, the album is shipped 9,429 miles to get here. after the currency conversion, you are looking at $36.96, hardly the craziest price for an LP that was shipped over a third of the circumference of the earth. not to mention you can buy the album (different variant) from the ATO webstore here in the USA for $23. just wanted to clear this up, because they are releasing another four albums this year.

    1. Are you certain that the label owns the masters? If not, you'll need to find out who does because that is who you will need to license them from, unless the band owns them in which case you don't need to worry about the label at all. Hopefully you will be dealing with a smaller, artist-friendly label because if it's a bigger one they may not even want to bother for such a limited run - meaning they won't be making very much so it's not even worth their time to work out the licensing agreement with you. Deal with this first before anything else because it's the keystone of the project. If the band doesn't own them then ask the old label if they still do or if they sold their masters to someone else. If they have licensed anything previously than they probably have a standard contract that they will send you, not the other way around.

    2. Photoshop or InDesign is what is used. You will probably just need to tweak the existing artwork for the new format.

    3. This is completely up to you, but you'd usually make a decision based on a price quote for whatever it is you want to do, and then the timing of your release. A lot of pressing plants these days have longer turnarounds so to make an order today means you won't be getting your product for 6-8 months. Do you want to be in close proximity to the plant so you can pick up / deliver assets in person? Or are you willing to ship ? This is where your ability to use google and research the different options will pay off for you. There is no one size fits all answer here.

Whatever plant you go with will send you templates to drop the art into so don't even worry about that for now - that is like the last of your worries really. Put the cart before the horse and deal with obtaining the masters or a license for them before you waste your time on a project you can't get off the ground.

Probably the same reason I cook complex dinners every week instead of buying frozen garbage. Inconvenient as hell, but damn is the taste worth it.

What's a fair price?  As a buyer does fair mean at cost ($50)?  As a seller does fair mean ebay price minus fees (around $250)?  As a collector does any number count as fair (I wouldn't sell mine for a penny under $500)?  Isn't fair all in the eyes of the buyer/seller?

Not advocating selling at cost or getting top dollar for something, but it seems silly for 10 people to post that they want one if they are only willing to pay lowballer money.  Trust me, I didn't ever post mine was for sale and had 5 people message me offering $100 or less for it.

Also remember that for records that have been pressed many times, the devil is in the details. You may think you have a hundred dollar record, but then one etching mark is missing in the runout grooves and it is $15. I spent 20 minutes trying to figure out exactly which pressing of Dark Side of the Moon I have. Goldmine guide for grading and be very anal about how you grade. I generally try to undergrade when I sell and completely describe any defects. Good luck.

Surprised it actually didn't sell out before lunch time. Unlike other groups of fans I've interacted with or observed (too creepy?), the hardcore MM fans are pretty hardcore...and that's coming from a huge fan. I didn't buy bc that's definitely too expensive for me..it's also coming out in the last month of the year when my record budget is already blown.
Wish I could buy it and support these dudes and there families. Having met them, I'm always happy to buy their tunes, go to a show or two and chat with them. That's why, although pricey, I can't imagine them making a cash grab. I think some fans seeing it as a really personal album or it's the only album they really like. Bands sell VIP tickets to shows, or have special VIP merch...in this case, it just happened to be their most popular album AND it's treated as a "VIP item".
I'm kinda salty about the price but when I think about how it "could" have happened, maybe it's a classic "Cartel Chroma Situation" but in reverse? Maybe they could have added some random recordings to essentially add value without having to create some physical? Maybe WB was so disinterested in Mutemath's attempt to press the record that did in fact milk it and charge more for what they saw was WB losing money? There could have been a "point of no return" where MM (who I believe is independent) spent so much of their own money trying to make everything work, they had to release it this way?
Wish we could have some more info about the whole ordeal but these are my hot takes.
Bummed that it could really be the final press though but as I finish a post that's too long, I just need to move on and put on a record and smile.

So many salty people. Price is crazy tho. If it's too expensive , don't buy it. If they shelled out that much money they will go on clearance eventually (rich kids will not allow this to happen).

We have no idea how much this actually cost them to do. It could have been a lot. It could have been a little.
