  1. Fun facts: I used to chat with Forrest on AIM here and there when I was in high school in the early 2000s and ran a music blog. He and I were both married at the same place in downtown LA. His folks own a really nice and small winery and they nailed tamales on their first try at a recent lunch and wine event.
  2. I must have gotten one of their last copies of that Petty set. The order sat there for a few weeks without being fulfilled, I emailed them, and a few days later they replied saying the sets arrived and are shipping out and I got my shipping confirmation, etc. There was someone on the Hoffman forums who said SSD was holding their $10,000 payment for a turntable and cartridge that they kept delaying. It's pretty nuts.
  3. Call PayPal and escalate your case and they might auto-rule in your favor over the phone. No reason to let them ignore and waste that waiting period time for you.
  4. Edit: I misunderstood the intent/subtext behind the post I quoted so my own reply was no longer accurate.
  5. I might be jaded and calloused because of my years in the comedy scene but whipping your genitals out for a comedy video and simulating heinous acts reads less "offensive" or "morally wrong" to me and more dumb/annoying. I don't see how that should end a comedy writer/producer's career or employment in the world of comedy. I used to hate when I'd be at an alt/indie show, often times with a normal human being who isn't a comedy nerd, and the hosts would pretend to show a home video or some sweet video and it'd be some hardcore clip or a video of them visibly pooping or something. Showing people something awful that they didn't expect and them going "Uhh. This is gross/dumb" is less of a 'joke' and more an expected reaction. Now, if some hosts intro'd a clip as if it would be some Faces of Death or hardcore clip and then they played a video of puppies and kittens playing, I'd laugh.
  6. I haven't had any luck at thrift shops in the Los Angeles area over the last 5-6 years. A few shops are aware of vinyl's popularity and charge $3-5 per LP and most of them are raided immediately or never have much good stuff on hand, in my experience. The best "haul" for me was 8-10 volumes of a box set series featuring old vocal artists like Sinatra (a different singer was featured in each 3-5 LP edition). They looked unplayed and well taken care of and cost just $2 each, so it was like 40 NM records for $20 dollars. Other than that, it's all beat up Herb Alpert and Jose Feliciano and Christmas/Cast Recordings/Orchestra compilations at thrift stores I've checked out.
  7. Sorry for the double quote but thought this might be relevant to anyone who has ordered with SSD recently: http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/anyone-ordered-recently-from-soundstagedirect.725078/page-3#post-19074670 In the past, they have been very slow to ship but it seems there may be a more serious delay/issue currently.
  8. They take forever to ship but they do ship their stuff extra secure to an almost insane level. Like boxes inside boxes with egg crates and paper padding etc. I'd recommend only using them for records you don't need in a hurry.
  9. There is a big drop off after Wildflowers but I'm really happy with the Vol. 2 box and enjoy all of the albums. It was worth the $150 I spent on it a few years ago.
  10. Listen to an Ovens/Tony Molina record then put on a Joyce Manor album and it will feel longer. Like dousing yourself with freezing hose water to make a cold pool feel warm.
  11. It's been a while since this thread has been updated but, if you still collect enamel pins, I wanted to share my upcoming shop. http://www.instagram.com/mintplusplus
  12. I can enjoy all of Blue, Pinkerton, Green, Maladroit, EWBAITE, and White. That's enough Weezer for me that I'm OK mostly ignoring everything else.
  13. I would agree about them changing things up if they hadn't released the self-titled record. I actually think that was their timid attempt at mixing things up. The songs were darker and dryer with less immediate flourishes/gimmicks propping them up. It also wasn't very interesting or good. El Pintor went back to the old formula of booming production, silly self-serious lyrics, and predictable Interpol guitar flourishes and, despite diminishing returns, it was a fun, energetic record. I agree that it's all the same (minus self-titled) but I don't know if they are a band that you want experimenting outside of their zone.
  14. FYI 400 copies of the deluxe are being sent to a distributor, so you could ask your local shop to try and order you one.
  15. I have an OG but picked up the VIP version for the demo record and remix 7". I had downloaded the demos years ago on an old hard drive and remember them being pretty cool.
  16. Off topic but I am crossing my fingers for a second record of demos and live tracks for the inevitable New Adventures in Hi Fi reissue.
  17. I believe they explained this last season. I don't remember exactly how they put it but he realized, in essence, that the trauma pushed them closer to having agency and making their own decisions, etc.
