Official Newbury Comics Reissue Thread
AlexH. replied to agaetisbyrjun's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
https://www.newburycomics.com/collections/pre-orders/products/low-the_great_destroyer_exclusive_2_lp?variant=47758593932 This album fucking rules. Better than the best album by your favorite band. I've never done these Newbury exclusive deals before but I sure do feel dumb for paying $34ppd for an album I already own.- 2,219 replies

RSD Black Friday 2017 thread
AlexH. replied to scottheisel's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
The fact that the list price is cheaper than The Greatest Gift should be a tipoff that it's not the full album. Carrie and Lowell Live is 89 minutes long, it'd have to at least be a double LP, and more likely a triple. No way it'd retail for $17. EDIT: Confirmed by Asthmatic Kitty to be the Blue Bucket of Gold 12": https://www.reddit.com/r/Sufjan/comments/76rqgg/looks_like_carrie_and_lowell_live_will_be/- 363 replies

Labels should take every chance they get to slap collector nerds in the face imo This right here. Plus, you don't think labels are going to sell through 1000 copies or whatever of an album without the benevolent force of collector culture? LOLOL

PO: Floating Action - Is It Exquisite
AlexH. replied to AlexH.'s topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
The colored version is sold out most places, but Floating Action just posted this link on Facebook. $30 gets you the colored version, a lyrics zine, and a shirt. http://infiniterepeats.limitedrun.com/products/602567-floating-action-is-it-exquisite-color-vinyl-lp-ir-plus-version-ir0001 -

PO soon: Bon Iver - 22, A Million
AlexH. replied to mrcndrlprt's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Especially considering the Turntablelab version looks to be a picture of an actual copy, yet it ships later than the Bon Iver store version?? -
So I just happened to stumble across this? The description says "Limited repressing of the 2012 release with insert" and "This is a repressing of the original 2011 release in a gatefold jacket with insert", respectively, so it looks like they got a hold of the original plates and are doing a straight repressing of the original Record Store Day releases. It's billed as "limited", so hop to it, kids. https://www.smlxlvinyl.com/collections/latest/products/anberlin-never-take-friendship-personal-lp-limited-smlxl-repress https://www.smlxlvinyl.com/collections/latest/products/anberlin-cities-2lp

PO: "I Only Listen to The Mountain Goats" 2LP
AlexH. replied to ratbrain's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Sucks that Amanda Palmer always seems to worm her way onto otherwise-cool compilations, but I'm looking forward to this. For anyone who isn't aware, there was also a tribute to Tallahassee that came out on that record's 10th anniversary featuring AJJ, Laura Stevenson, Bomb the Music Industry, etc. http://store.crookedneighbor.com/album/tallahassee-turns-ten- 6 replies

Given how deep you already are in this project, I doubt anyone here is going to be able to help you - this board is mostly people in their 20s-40s, predominantly interested in contemporary music - but I gotta say this is an impressive undertaking. I just started the Ken Burns Vietnam miniseries and it has made me aware of just how little I know about the war, and how little public discourse I've heard about it in my lifetime, beyond "it wasn't great".

As were the Meat Puppets, but those bands all got along with each other, or at least got their shit together long enough to lawyer up. My understanding is that at least in the past, the Hüskers preferred losing out on all SST royalties to talking to each other, so it's a pretty big deal if that has changed.

Interview with a little backstory here, plus a stream: http://www.npr.org/2017/09/05/547854997/first-listen-husker-du-savage-young-du It sounds optimistic about future reissues, which is good. "Alternate Land Speed Record" had me concerned that they were unable to get anything accomplished with SST. I'd love to hear properly mixed and mastered versions of Zen Arcade & New Day Rising.

Five Iron Frenzy Vinyl Reissues (SMLXL)
AlexH. replied to mmhmm's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
I have to assume they either cut the hidden track entirely or put it behind a locked groove. Just with the music alone this album is right on the cusp of not being able to fit on a single LP, I don't think they'd be able to add 10 minutes of dead wax. -
PO - Brand New - Science Fiction
AlexH. replied to marc32137's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
I have never loved this band more than I do today. True masters of getting people to flip the fuck out. I hope you all get mailed a one-sided 12" with the 3 post-Daisy songs on it, and instructions to send a SASE & $1 bill to a PO box address. -
It's cheapest directly from Merge with free US shipping: http://www.mergerecords.com/ga-ga-ga-ga-ga-10th-anniversary-reissue One of their best for sure, but given that the single LP is still in print, I'm not sure a throwaway EP is incentive enough for most people to buy this again, or for a first time buyer to cough up the extra 12 bucks. Strictly 4 the superfans.

PO: Mewithoutyou [A->B] Life Repress
AlexH. replied to museummouth's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
But like, why should it sound different from the CD if the CD sounds good? What would be appreciably better about having a different master? Obviously if you're putting out a release from scratch it makes the most sense to work from the original masters, but I don't personally see any problem with taking something that sounds good and tweaking it for a vinyl release. This whole format is already pointless anyway, they can put the music right onto your phone these days. -

SOLD OUT: Anberlin "Help Yourself" Box Set
AlexH. replied to No This Is Patrick's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
LOL Bud, what if I told you you can write bad songs about things that mean a lot to you. You've never heard a song about a super personal/meaningful topic that sucked ass? This sounds like the last 10 years of CCM Mom Rock distilled into 1 song: -
ETR Superfans - Enjoy The Ride Records & More?
AlexH. replied to cwhitmuzik's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
No, you remember right. Looks like it just came out. http://merchnow.com/products/v2/254009/true-romance-alabama-splatter-vinyl http://merchnow.com/products/v2/254010/true-romance-deluxe-vinyl-box-set--alabama-splatter-vinyl--blood-splatter-vinyl Ah, nevermind, I misread the ETR graphic. Ross is putting out the score, the soundtrack just came out via the other guys. Those Hans Zimmer compositions are going to sound great on sand-filled Pirates Press splatter vinyl.
