You have to say his name 3 times in a mirror at midnight.  (It's only 10:40 over here.)

It's like the climax of Halls of Summer stretched out for an entire track.  I'm way into it.

Brutus has just never clicked with me.  But I’ve only listened to both albums once.  The singer doesn’t mesh with my musical “palate”.  But it’s on my list of many many things from this year I need to revisit.

Cloudkicker has a nice unique intro in “Night”, 2 great songs (Xaoc, Void), and the rest is pretty forgettable imo (I still don’t quite get why “YHWH” is basically just a rewritten “You Could Laugh Forever...”.  It’s definitely an EP & not sure why it’s labeled as an LP.  Ahh well.  Still waiting on the vinyl which I’m all over.

But it’s been a killer day of releases today.  I really hope someone else checks out IBTS.  I know that style rends to get pretty “jammy” & samesies with the songs but his talent is fully on display & the number of notes he crams into several riffs is pretty astonishing.

Vaudlow released a pretty solid album today as well.  More cinematic with a nice mix of ambient & electronics.

Really liked Lacing first time through.

Oddly enough Tennis System kind of nose-dived hard off a cliff quickly after I was pretty into it early on.  May have just caught me on the wrong day last time I listened.  But I do long for the dreamier sounds from TB.  New PTP session out today though which breathed new life into 4 of the songs.

Just came across this album that came out today & it rips.  Louder, heavier, slightly noisy shoegaze.  Parts of it reminds me of the heavier first half of the Dead Swords album.  But the whole album keeps that energy.

If you are into bands like AmenRa, Cult of Luna and in general post-metal with a bit of hard-core, check Guantanamo Party Program.
You may stream all of their albums on bandcamp:

And if you are into fancy cassette tapes boxsets, check this thread:

After reading your reports from this festival, I realized I hardly know any of those bands. Can't believe how much music I do overlook nowadays, especially taking into account that huge part of my vinyl is post-rock. Seems like I have to refresh this shelf with new tunes after I got tired a bit with "generic post-rock" and "try to find new way with electronics" bands I have known. Thanks for this!

I enjoyed that, but mostly because it gave some ornamentation around the pummeling low end.  That was fun though!

Just wanted to chime in on my post-Post Fest thoughts heyoh.

First off the sound guy & lighting guys were absolutely perfect the entire weekend.  No band could have possibly sounded nor looked better.

    DAY 1

Au Revoir:  One of my favs during Dunk 2017, & were as good or better this time around.  They’re just so massive live.  And the new stuff sounded amazing.

Shy Low:  It’s funny that I got into them with Hiraeth & had an impression they were pretty chill.  I know I’ve heard other stuff from them that was heavy, but hoped the set would be mixed.  It was all pretty heavy.  Not as good as Au Revoir but still really good.

Moira:  Awesome new band to check out.  Very chill & moody with a groove & amazing vocalist.  Was a standout because of how unique their sound was relative to the other bands there.

Pray For Sound:  Welp, my thoughts are the complete opposite of Gumbo.  Sure, for what they are they sounded great, but I was so bored with them other than the opener, “Decayer”, which is the only song from ‘Dreamer’ played, which is the only album of theirs that did anything for me.  Gumbo, I love ya, but best American PR band????  Better than Caspian & everyone else??

Lowercase Noises:  As Gumbo said, dude wrote every song played a MONTH before this fest.  Insane.  Especially with how good they all sounded.  I had minimal experience with this band before & had only listened to really chill/ambient stuff.  First half of the set continued that but then the last couple songs were ramped WAY up in intensity & were incredible. Ears open for whenever this album/EP gets released.

Ranges:  *sigh*.  Again, sounded great, but it all just blends together.  Made it only about halfway through because of how late everything was running.  I can tolerate these guys a song or two at a time, but that’s it 🤷‍♂️.

THAT WAS ME I TAKE ALL CREDIT 😉.  Sometimes I think no one else loves the bands I REALLY love so I’m glad to hear how much you’re digging.  Their new one is in my top 5 of the year for sure.

I get to see them today at Post Fest & I’m so jacked!

    Warning: APPRECIATION POST

I just want to take this opportunity to thank whoever posted the Spotlights link in here a month or so ago.  You deserve a gold star for it because it is wicked awesome. I've been listening to it a lot and I think it has staying power for me.It strikes the perfect balance between heavy (guitar) and gaze (vocals). It's recommendations like these that keep me coming back, because there is no way I would have found it otherwise. So, a general thanks for all those who post and continue to post new bands.

Ranges aesthetics > Ranges songs 🤷‍♂️

Thought they would push themselves on this new one but it’s literally The Ascensionist Pt 2 which was already generic af.  Very safe post-rock.

At least it sounds like Ranges & they have a bit of a distinctive flair, unlike Pillars.
