Picked this among some pricey things I bought. Luckily, it sells for a nice bit. Jetstream was a Texas label that was started by Louisiana native Huey P. Meaux:

Added some 50's R&B to my box. Big Walter Price, who I thought was from Louisiana but actually might be Texas. The flip sounds like swamp pop in the vein of Slim Harpo. But this one is good:

Sorry about your Dad man. Yeah, this always hits hard, lost both my grandparents a few years ago. Its incredible to see all the things that get accumulated over a lifetime and none of it goes with you when you die. No one will value most of it, and its usually a burden on whoever has to deal with it.

I talk about this with my wife a lot that older generations stockpile cash, most of it to live on until the end (which is responsible), then leave a lump sum to the kids when you pass. Problem is there is usually fighting within the family over the assets and possessions. I feel like as I near the end I'd like to slowly give away my nest egg to the kids (10k per year) to avoid gift taxes and actually watch them enjoy it or experience it with them in some way via funding family vacations etc.

Sorry to hear about your dad. I went through the same thing last month with my mother in law dying. My wife and I were her only family locally and I can tell you it'll make you want to be a minimalist. I can't push myself to do it yet but I really should. Plus the increase in prices and delays over the last couple of years has made me slow down more than ever and I sold a bunch of records last year, even gave a way a lot of them to a friend.

My dad died May 31st. Looking at all his "stuff" he's left for us to deal with made me realize I have to get rid of lots of shit. Though I'm 41 and hopefully nowhere near dying, I still don't want to leave the same situation for my son. But I like buying records. So at some point, I want to cash out. But not any time soon.

Took a flier on a couple Horace Silver LPs today for $30.
    "Searching for the 27th Man"
    "Silver's Serenade"

The Serenade is a legit first pressing in VG+ condition - deep groove in side one. I won on that flier - I knew the condition was good and I couldn't even get a repress of either at those prices, so too a shot and scored.

Finally did a side by side comparison using this and an original mono pressing in VG+ condition. The original mono still wins. Don't know if it's because it's mono and this is stereo, but the tonal qualities are different and the OG sounds a bit less muted. I will say that I have no regrets buying this new version. It is beautiful and I highly recommend the high expense as it will be a jewel in any collection for years to come. My test to see if there can be a better version than the original has come to an end and as usual with old jazz records the original pressing won.

Funny, I just recently found out about this one. I was really into collecting Mainstream titles for a while, but never knew about this one. They do have a reissue of it.

Keeping with Lexi's theme... I don't think I ever posted this. I found her LP in a big lot I got in 2019. The LP was OOP at one point and still pulls $300-400 regularly.  It's great soul but I'm definitely going to sell the LP eventually because it's not that great. However, this song is absolutely amazing. I'd like to find the 45 for cheap.

I probably posted this before, but why not do it again? My buddy and I came across a once in a lifetime collection many years ago and we each got two or three sealed copies of this record. I still have one and probably sold the others for way less than what I could get now. Happy Saturday!

Don't know if any of you stumbled across this Josh Johnson album. My friend hipped me to it. Nice and airy with some electronics.

A while back I posted about a neighbor who had shelves and shelves of mostly jazz and soul records in their two garages. Every time they would have a garage sale I would try to stop by to get them to let me look through some of them. One day they finally let me check out some in the main garage. Unfortunately I was recovering from a bad back and I didn't have my reading glasses which made it difficult. They told me they were going to have a guy come in and go through it all, even though I had been talking with them for a while about it. From what I did see there was a lot of potential and a lot of disappointment with rare titles having jacked up discs. Anyway, I finally went back today and it had all been gone through numerous times at this point. I did pick up 40 records, but nothing to jump up and down about. Got some sealed Dizzy and Dinah. Also a couple Graham Central Station, Jack McDuff, and a 12 inch of Miles playing Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time". Herbie Mann fans would have gone to town! They were all a buck a piece, so good prices, but damn I wonder what I missed out on. Probably a lot. I should have been more persistent, but I just don't have that drive like I did in my 20's and 30's.

The aforementioned collection I referenced above that was purchased in the summer of 2019 had Asante (which I haven't sold yet - need to spin again).  But it also had his album Extensions. I sold it and wanted it back. It's great. Especially this track:

The upcoming Mobley reissue is essential. Looking forward to it.

I slept on the Grant Green "Nigeria" Tone Poet. I'd love to find a trade on that one. I came into a copy of "Solid" not long ago. Best $10 I've spent on a piece of vinyl in months.

I really liked the Miles Davis "Bitches Brew" rsd collection and am looking forward to the Jack Johnson collection coming in July.

I spent a lot of time with jazz during covid. Found my way into a few cool albums (Any of you ever listened to McCoy Tyner's "Asante" - a pal pulled it for me and it just shows the depth of what is out there in the genre). Bought part of a collection and regretted not taking more.  Anyway, Jazz gave me a lot of joy and got me a bit more engaged with collecting on all aspects of my collection.

I like that this has the asterisk... but I can't find the small print that explains how this isn't actually true.

Haha. Awesome! And, no, you definitely informed me of something new. Totes NOLA stuff but never have. The label that's releasing it is out of Alabama so that be why I haven't seen much press. But never did.

Yeah, because the first dose wasn't really anything, I sort of expected to be unfazed by the second one. Haha, I called out of work because I knew I could use a sick day with little consequence. But it hit. God. No joke. But yes better than COVID.

For fans of The Wild Magnolias, Wild Tchoupitoulas, and later Meters/Neville Brothers. They have a limited "mardi gras" colored version. Sold out at some places.
