I guess? I do understand the small effect an amp will have though I honestly feel like the Marantz sounds so much better than my $189 Sony with no phono input purchased at best buy two years ago (used a Pro-Ject phono pre-amp). I feel most in the know would also say so upon listening.  Though, my ears might not be as astute as yours....

Good schools don't always make good students. I've worked in universities since 2005, I've met a lot of dummies.

That doesnt really hold up though. Medicine you need your license to practice, audio you dont. They can easily be putting out just as good a product as someone doing it for 20 years, besides, it isnt like pro-ject has a great reputation outside of their fan boys.

They arent just "college kids" they go to the number one school for music in the country, they might have an idea of what they are doing.

Yeah I'll make an ass out of me saying there is no way in hell some college kids who haven't even graduated know more than companies who have been around longer than these kids have been alive.

My thought is that I highly doubt it's anywhere close to a RP1 or Carbon. Just my opinion.

You're losing a lot of quality. It's not a good idea at all. Get a 3' RCA cable. Only use RCA to RCA. Don't use 3.5mm conversion.

Thanks, yeah the preamp will be right next to the turntable as stated. I have to run 3.5mm because its going through tight spaces and I hate seeing cables. I just did a test and placed my current turntable right next to the receiver and I couldn't tell a difference at all when compared to the long run. Same volume same everything.

It's amazing how almost every one of those listings is just barely, barely converted to 50 U.S. dollars for some international shipping deal on a VG record from some European country. Come on, dude. Just because those records are available and ready to be bought doesn't mean they oughta be. I would never pay 50 bucks for Violator with international shipping from Sweden from some guy because some guy from VC told me those are better than the 18 dollar copies that will soon be available to me. Your enticing argument of "The American pressings sounded better than the European ones, can't explain it, but they did." only furthers the point that I shouldn't buy a 50 dollar 1990 copy from some guy in Spain.

I can't find the Depeche Mode albums I want on vinyl, that's priced in USD or located in the US, that's in any sort of good condition for less than 30 bucks
