  1. This guy must have been reading my mind. Everything he is saying is perfect. I'm also wondering about the life of the variant thing, even though I like to buy them. Variants pulled up and then dragged down the comic book industry in the 90's. I'm just really starting to look at how ridiculous it is to buy multiple copies of the same record(not a judgement on anyone who does this btw).
  2. Love High On Fire, but even at the cheapest $35 for what amounts to a double live album this is ridiculous. With $15 7"s and $35 double albums this is the beginning of the end. Dooooooom! This overcharging is exactly why people started pirate downloading, which killed the CD industry.
  3. There's always something going on in this profession and always the possibility for negativity to build. I'm a bit lucky that at my school my principal, for the most part, believes in and supports his teachers. We don't always see eye to eye, but I can call him on my cell and say, "What the hell?" and we can have a conversation. A few years ago we had a negative wave of finger pointing, mostly because one grade level thought they were hot shit on a silver platter because of their test scores. They didn't bother to think about the teachers before them who laid all of the groundwork AND they were basically teaching to the test, which has become endemic. For all the money I pay my union in dues I consider them worthless. We just keep on losing more and more. If I didn't have to pay dues, that would be an instant raise. They have never been there to support me and just seem like another cog in the political machine. I try not to dwell too much on my disgust for the union, because nothing really comes of it. To battle the general negativity, I have learned to just back away. With those asshole teachers, I just ignored them and let them play themselves out. I quit being grade level leader for a while because there was no leadership at the leadership meetings, just a bunch of infighting and negativity. I've since rejoined and will work to change those aspects. Through the 12 years I have been teaching I have found it best to back away from the overly negative people and to let more things roll off my back. It's the kids who matter, so I tell fellow frustrated teachers to close the door and do what you need to do to show your students the path to success and self-confidence. There will always be those ups and downs. Ride it out.
  4. If not already in this thread, Glaciers and Black Clouds need to be added. http://blackcloudsdc.bandcamp.com/
  5. I had the audio off, but it was sure good to see a demo about how to open and unpack a box...
  6. You could always write them and tell them to play at your house during a convenient time?
  7. South or north of Kailua-Kona on the Big Island? Towards the volcano. I don't know the name, but there are a lot of little shops in the same area. I really had to use my fast digging fingers because my wife was waiting. She was cool, but after about 30 minutes I was feeling kinda bad digging for records while we were in paradise. The guy's prices were all over the place and some of the quotes were ridiculous. I was thinking I might find some good punk or rock and was surprised at the plentiful jazz. If you're going there I have a lot of good food and fun recommendations. Just PM me.
  8. Interesting mix of stuff. Looks like they went from early big band swing straight to smooth jazz. My favorite decades for jazz are the 50's and 60's with a bit of the soul jazz from the early 70's. As an audiophile I am surprised you aren't already completely into jazz. You may have opened up an expensive can of worms for yourself. Forget about $2,000 audio components and start worrying about paying the same for a rare original Blue Note record! Let us know what you end up digging from that collection.
  9. I want the yellow version, but don't need it with that shipping price to the US. I still think the pink version is the best. I have never seen a neon pink record quite that bright, it looks like it's plugged in.
  10. It's funny that when someone is honest and says he wants what most of the people in the sale forum want, he gets called a douche. How many people in the for sale section are selling records for less than what they bought them for, or at cost? I'm not supporting this guy, I just think it's funny how selective people are in their judgements. To the OP, just put them on ebay like everyone else.
  11. I was hoping to buy yet another copy of Sunbather at the Boris show last night, no luck. Great show, the sound was a little muddy, but that wasn't the band's fault. They barely had any room on the small stage with all of Boris' equipment in back of them. Deafheaven were intense as usual and the new stuff sounded great live. BTW Boris was also sold out of Flood Live and Parapat and I got there early. I think they might just be gone.
  12. If this is actually the case I agree. The thing that seems to be causing the most problems is whoever is in charge of running this fan club can't seem to take a few minutes to type out a thoughtful update and send it to everyone.
  13. There was a point during the San Francisco show that I almost yelled, "When are we going to get our fan club 7" ?", but I didn't want to be that guy. Sucks that it's taking so long, but I'm not worried.
  14. I ended up cancelling my order for the Acryl It and bought the Acri-Plat. Spun a couple records and didn't hear a major difference. I need to do more testing, but either way it looks a lot cooler.
  15. I would definitely try to buy from your local store for all the reasons listed above. They should be able to order the color you want if they already stock the model.
  16. Goddamnit!!!!! Missed the splatter, bought the other two, but GODDAMNIT!!!! If anyone, by some strange chance got an extra or want to sell or trade please hit me up with a pm.
  17. I have a Record Doctor, it may be the very first model though. I don't know if it's the same as that one. I have to manually apply solution and scrub the record, then put it down and hand spin to vacuum the moisture off. It's a pain, but better than nothing. I think I bought mine off a friend for $50. I'd like to get a VPI one day.
  18. I really like this band a lot and respect the work that Wes does, but f*ck this. I mean $15 for a 7 inch? Yeah, it's signed, but things are getting out of hand here with the record cost and the high shipping. I'm sure he will have no problem selling them, I'm just not going to be shelling out money for this bs.
  19. This is almost as good as a Scooby Doo mystery. I wonder who could possibly provide clues or an actual answer as to when this mysterious pain in the ass PO might go up? Hmmmmm.
  20. Agreed. I've seen some great shows there like Bad Religion, Murder City Devils, Explosions In The Sky,Missing Persons(very strange) etc. This Deafheaven show should be pretty awesome there. I guess the good news about it taking so long for this PO to go up is that they will be shipping sooner after we pay?
  21. I wrote the guy and to check in to see what the update was and got this: "Date: Saturday, May 18, 2013, 2:09 PM Like I've said on my Facebook page, that was a preorder, they will ship in the next two weeks. m" I'm so stupid that I didn't follow him on FB to find out the status of my order. Really glad I gave this dick some of my money.
