  1. The turquoise one is the "standard" release that will be available everywhere. Purple is limited to the band's website and tour only. The blue Euro press is actually not that bad to get. I ordered it from Amazon.co.uk and it was only about $18 shipped - I got both the Euro Ascension and Descension presses for less than $40. Also, my box set arrived today. DANG is it sweet.
  2. boredom is really the only reason I really cared at all. well, no, that and it frustrates the fuck out of me when people can't even bother to pay attention to things that are literally right in front of them.
  3. At least now I don't have to wonder. She's fairly tolerable as far as Kids These Days go. And as vloggers go. Not that I watched more than 2 videos. Maybe I'll watch more later if I feel a need to be a creepy old man.
  4. I sure hope he means 9:00 AM CST. I'm in a short but unreschedulable meeting at 9:00 AM EST.
  5. just pre-ordered the new Paramore record on Amazon. included Taylor Swift's Red to bump it over $25 for the free shipping. yesterday I also pre-ordered Autechre's Exai on Amazon. used the reward points from my Amazon CC to get it for about $2 (actual price $35).
  6. At my college radio station, everything was alphabetized, and bands with numbers or symbols had them spelled out for sorting purposes. So in your examples, it'd be "Plus Forty-Four" and "Three Eleven". Indefinite articles ("a" or "an") were treated as part of the name, so "A Perfect Circle", not "Perfect Circle, A". The definite article ("the") got the "Beatles, The" treatment, and that was really it. Since I spent about 9 years involved with the station, that's how I've done it ever since. At the station there was no specific policy about how to sort within a given artist - basically if you could find the band quickly that's all that mattered - but personally I do it chronologically because I'm always thinking about how certain records relate to a band's catalog so it makes sense to me to have it that way. I gotta say though, and I'm surprised I never thought of that before, but I like your method of treating splits as compilations. Currently I sort them by the artist that's listed first/has the A side, unless I bought it for one artist (e.g. I have this Hot Water Music/Six Going on Seven split 7", but I don't really listen to/care about Hot Water Music and I bought it for the Six Going on Seven song, so I put it under S even though that song's the B side). But that's a cool idea. I might do that.
  7. Green is a much better for post-hardcore than red. It really brings clarity to the lower-mid frequencies in a way that red just can't.
  8. My Euro press just arrived. The blue is a little lighter than I expected having seen the photo of it earlier in the thread. It's also got a hint (just a hint) of green in it, leaning ever-so-slightly towards turquoise, but it's not actual turquoise like the US press. Just a slight undertone. My Euro press of Ascension should arrive in the next couple of days - Amazon shipped these separately even though I bought them both on the same order, for whatever reason. I'm VERY excited for that one, because orange.
  9. While true, they originally appeared on actual Postal Service singles as B-sides.
  10. Or you could just buy the Dntel record? idk I get your reasoning from a theoretical standpoint, but I mean, Evan and Chan was on a Dntel album and is really a Dntel song with Ben Gibbard on it (just like all the other songs on that album with a guest vocalist) as opposed to the true collaboration that was The Postal Service. I think the idea of doing a Postal Service record with bonus tracks is to include actual Postal Service B-sides or other rare/hard to find/unreleased tracks, not something that is actually pretty easy to get a hold of. Personally, I don't feel like leaving out Evan and Chan makes the Postal Service set "incomplete".
  11. I kind of agree with this idea. Also, I think Descension is stronger overall than Ascension, so when I finally heard Descension, my reaction was "wow, this is even BETTER than that other one!" If they both came out at once/together, I probably would have thought the combined album was really good. I mean, I think the whole Afterman collection or even each one taken individually is better than both NWFT and YOTBR (even though I like YOTBR a shitload more than it seems most people do. NWFT is definitely their worst). But, they came out separately, so in my mind I think of them separately, and as a result I think Afterman is "really good" and Descension is "great". So, by releasing them separately, I think I enjoy the whole Afterman set, musicially speaking, more overall than I would have if they came out as one piece. And frankly, I kind of like the idea of a return to 40-45 minute-ish albums as a general thing in music. It's a good length for things to be.
  12. On a similar but different note to spacers: For those with Expedits, what (if anything) do you use to backstop your records in the shelves? I'm sick of pushing a bunch of records way back into the shelf every time I put a record back in its place.
  13. most adult humans have heard of a mathematical concept called "rounding".
  14. so you're saying you somehow missed the multiple other active threads about this same topic? does reanimating this dead thread bring it up to four threads in the past few days about flippers/variant collectors? I've lost count.
  15. I am baffled that UPS is actually half of the USPS shipping rate. what bizzaro world is this? do they ship it in a gold box if you order USPS, but regular cardboard if you order UPS?
  16. Well, they were if you got the deluxe vinyl set. Ultimately, they could have released The Afterman as a 2xLP, but for whatever reasons, they decided this is how they wanted to do it. It's a little like the GNR Use Your Illusion albums. They certainly could have released that with both albums together, but it was decided to release them individually.
  17. Every time HT has one of these BOGO sales, I can only find one record I want.
