I'm really looking forward to judging this album based on the music rather than the horrible sound.  Made it unlistenable to me.  I NEVER liked One Little Victory but the rest of the album is actually pretty good from what I remember.

I got Presto for 5 bucks on discogs though it has a skip. "I'm not one to believe in mag--I'm not one to believe in mag-- I'm not one..."  On a related note I love how they played "Presto" on their latest tour.  Amazing setlist.

"Midlife Crisis" was one of the first cassettes I ever bought.  My mom asked the guy at Sam Goody if there was bad language in the song, and he said if there was you can't tell b/c the lyrics are indecipherable.  Still remember being amazed at the b-side of Malpractive, never heard anything like that before.

While true on paper, I agree with Root Bear: it comes down to why you want to read a review in the first place.  Your logic is spot-on for a first listen: it takes no more than a minute or two to find, stream, or obtain an album, these days.  Which is why I personally won't bother with reviews until well after I've familiarized myself with the album.  It interests me to read another perspective on a record that I'm familiar with.  Especially if that review conflicts with my opinion and is intelligently written.  I enjoy hearing different takes on tracks I think I've got all figured out, and also like to be challenged to hear or understand something I may have missed.  Outsider perspective always fascinate me.

But on topic... I got around to listening to this album for the first time, yesterday.  Twice.  So incredibly infectious.  There are maybe two or three tracks that currently strike me as meh, but all in all it's a fantastic record.

Even though I was hating on this, the above price drop and this video made me pull the trigger:

First year of RSD in singapore! Got a couple of records!
    1. Manchester Orchestra
    2. Bayside
    3. The xx
    4. Dio/killswitch
    5. South park.
Theres only 1 store in singapore celebrating RSD and there was about 30-40 people. I arrived 45 mins before the store opend and I was 2nd in line and the store only had 1 of each item except for popular items. Paid about 130sgd for all of it, which is roughly 100usd. Pretty pricey i would say but its our 1st RSD and i was stoked.

What the...it's not April Fool's Day yet! What a terrible album title and cover. Oh well.
The new single is alright, but I feel about it as I did 'Black Gives Way To Blue': just another hard rock band chugging along. Yes, AiC was Jerry's baby but for me Layne's voice was just as important to the success of the band. (And, for what it's worth, I didn't like the self-titled record very much either...or Mad Season or any of the Jerry solo records for that matter.)
In all seriousness, good for them for keeping it going but I think it's finally time to stop hoping that I'm going to be as excited about a new record from them as I was for the first few.

I've not taken the time to read through every post in here so apologies if this has been brought up earlier, but...

I've actually been thinking lately if the part of the boom in Vinyl sales is due the Flippers.  Either directly of indirectly.  Basically flippers take a rare record of a band that has a cult following and turns a $15 Title Fight Floral Green record into a $70 ebay record.  Normal music fans hear about shit like that and then think that all records can be flipped and they start moving towards vinyl because they think they can just resell the records for mega money.  Record store day plays it roll in reinforcing this idea.

Not saying this is totally true but I know of a couple people who got into, or back into vinyl when the hear or saw the flipping prices.  Flipping is a method to almost advertise the hobby.  Getting into vinyl is like any Collection based hobby, and the best way to get people hooked is to show them there is value in the Collections. The more people in this hobby the more things get released on Vinyl, the happier I am.

So basically I don't hate flippers as a whole.  I will say labels or distros should have strict 1 per order limits on rare editions.  Hell I've flipped a couple of records in my day and I'm sure I'll flip a few more in the coming days.  The best example was RSD last year.  I bought a ton of stuff, it was my first RSD where I had unlimited funds, so I bought everything I wanted.  Later that day when I got home and saw that I could sell the "Empire Records Soundtrack" for $50 more than I payed, I said fuck it I want the money more than I want that record.

tl;dr Flippers gonna flip.  Hater gonna hate.  I'm going to go meh because all the drama the surrounds this leads to more people getting into this hobby.

Honestly don't think this is good at all. I am annoyed with the his signature lighting style he uses and I don't really want a stylized Star Wars like I have with Star Trek. I always felt Star Wars was grittier.

mines on its way. snagged the 2LP vinyl of EoS a little while back and it sounds fantastic. one of the most important albums of my shitty teen years, so cant wait to hear how these demo versions sound. i'll also back the request for Come in and Burn vinyl. that album has aged well in my opinion.

That's about right. The "audiophile" and "180 gram" thing is becoming a bit of a marketing tool. THough most 180 gram pressingare i my opinion are better from my experience. It jueust seems to have a better, more full/ solid sound. Lighter vinyl can definetely suind pretty good too so it's not a deciding factor.
I would also think that if a band / label were to press something on 180g (More money) they would be putting more effort in the actual mastering / editing.
It also matters who mixes the the recording. Is it "Master from original analog tpape" and by whome. I don't know names of who are good but most 180 gram true repress (Remastered from og tapes) i have are amazing. What mainly comes to mind is the new pressing of pInk Floyd's Wall, Wish you Were HEre, and Dark Side of the moon. The reveiws are off the chart on those things.
I bought Wish You Were Here for 28$ at Hot Topic cause i was itchin for a vinyl fix. When spun theat haevy peice of wax it blew my mind the clarity, "soundstage" as they call, and the surface is so freekin quite. I quickly understood why it cost my near 30$ (Also included some super heavy stock sleaves, poster, postcrd, download car). I then did some research on why it was so damn good. I found the reviews saying "Re mastered from original analog tapes" "Dead silent surface noise" "high quality german vinyl" which was pressed at the EMI plant i beleive. So that summed it up.
I Then bought The Wall (Frikin expesive) and am not disapointed at all. Worth every penny if you're gonna keep this in excellent shape and blow your friends (The ones that aren;t too cool for Floy) and parents (My dad couldn.t beleive he was hearing such goodness< he sad "Man, this just sounds so damn good") and i have gotten many compliments on my setup (Which i return to say "it's really the vinyl" even though i got a pretty good setup. polk monitor 70s (100 watt's per channel and fake bi-amped out of my Onkyo receiver, and Klipsch RW 12".)
I am waiting for Hot Topic Cash to get Dark Side (I have the 25th anniversy edistion and can only imagine the difference, based on Wall and Shine). To get it at a steal.
Also, i wam pretty dissapointed on my flimsy Tomahawk vinyl where it probably is aroun 100 grams and the holes had to by cdug out with my knifr to fit the record player. And the bass less songs on their newest alsbumb. The CD makes my system go BOOM but the vinyl falls flat. Very disspointed. BS. Maybe mike patton is so in the digital age there's no point in trying to put his stuff on vinyl, hence why you don't see much. (Totally fine with that)
Also, neil youg does some insane quality, and pricey, represses. Then new Sixto Repress is pretty darn good too, especially for 18.99 from my local record store.
There seems to be the just put it on vinyl and color some copies and the kids will buy it crowd, and then the i want it mastered for vinyl and good quality crowd. I used to be obsessed with collecting and colors and what not but since i've got a good table and system i would much rather have my 180g black copy. I've been selling colored copies of NOFX for hundred, turn around and buy it baclk on black plus a few more records. I love it!
Well sorry for rambling. And no spell check

Hmm, I was afraid I would feel the same way about the album. Haven't been impressed by the two released snippets for similar reasons... I thought they hit the water mark of their recent pro-tools era with Forsaker off Night is the New Day. The best song on that in my opinion was the most experimental "Departer" and most of that was due to the guest vocals. I do love Jonas vocals, they are just so original, but I think if they went more raw and experimental on the next one it would be a breath of fresh air.
