  1. Cool I'll check it out. I've really got to check out more of LightintheAttics library.
  2. Oh and it didn't hurt they had free beer. Free beer is always nice. Apparently that venue can't sell beer, but they can give it away. They have a show tonight that is BYOB but they a local brewery is also going to be there with free beer. Wish I could call in to work sick tonight. Can I call in preemptively drunk? (kidding since my incident I don't drunk, but I'd love to show up for a few free beers)
  3. For me alot of it is the local festival. I never would have gotten so into Americana / Soul and some indie stuff if it wasn't in my backyard. I've also got a buddy whos into all sorts of odd stuff so I get a ton from him too. The other way is I'll watch a video on youtube and see what else pops up. I just got back from the announcement party and am pretty stoked. The 50 bands released today are just the bands that the guys running the fest love and think are underappreciated. They haven't released the "headliners" yet. Afterwards I stuck around and talked to the head of the festival and the recruiter for a bit and some of the bands that might happen sound pretty good.
  4. Cool, I heard a while back they were being talked about so I checked them out and was diggin' it.
  5. Dammit, I thought if anyone would know some of these bands it'd be you. I figured you'd know Motherfolk for the simple fact the first song I looked up by them was called Salt Lake City. No idea if that is actually where they are from. Caleb Hawley and Roadkill Ghose choir I'm pretty excited about. Suitcase Junket I found out about a little while back and really like. Pop Goes the Evil, Bruiser Queen, The Noble Thiefs, Desert Noises, Swear and Shake, Los Colognes all played last year and are pretty damn good. Me Like Bees and Ruby the Rabbitfoot I just checked out and definitely want to check out more of. ...and you know of my Charlie Parr fascination.
  6. Just got the email from Mile of Music on the first 50 bands. As always most of the stuff I don't know, but there is Tim Barry so I'm stoked, but I already knew he was going to be there. Heres some of the National Touring bands let me know if you see something you know that I need to check out. I only know of a handful of them. The Milk Carton Kids Steelism Ruby the Rabbitfoot Har di Har Me Like Bees Caleb Hawley Andrew Combs Soil and the Sun Frank Fairfield Motherfolk Tim fuckin Barry Roadkill Ghost Choir Mount Carmel The Suitcase Junket Blank Range Alanna Royale Luke Bell Stone Cold Fox Andrew Bryant Caleb Caudle Kacy and Clayton Wild Adriatic Bruiser Queen Cedarwell Fort Frances Los Colognes Pop Goes the Evil Desert Noises Boom Forest Cereus Bright The Noble Theifs Ruben Charlie Parr Swear and Shake
  7. They are probably my favorite band right now. Micah Schnabel writes some of the best lyrics around. His voice is a bit unique so I get why people may not be into him but I love it.
  8. Today is going to be a good day. Hopefully? Maybe? Definitely. Mile of Music announcement day. First 50 bands are getting announced. I'm hoping for at least two of Tim Barry, Two Cow Garage, Austin Lucas, Drag the River, Ben Caplan, Emily Barker, Cory Brannan, PJ Bond, Jolie Holland.
  9. I just picked up the album via bandcamp. I'll burn a couple copies now. This afternoon Mile of Music has an announcement party for the first 50 bands and I'll drop off a CD with the band recruiter. I'll also talk to my buddy about you so if the recruiter ends up looking for more acts this year he can bring up your name. Best of luck.
  10. Liking this. We've got a music festival around here that would seem to fit you pretty well. It's americana / folk / alt-country / indie with an emphasis on showcasing emerging singer songwriters. The schedule for this years festival is mostly set but if you want I can have my buddy whose been working with the band recruiter for the fest bring up your name and link your bandcamp. http://mileofmusic.com/
  11. I've been on a huge Aaron Lee Tasjan kick lately and this morning was listening to -
  12. Self quote, woo hoo. Funny thing I just went to the mailbox and low and behold I got the Pretty Boy Thorson record in the mail today.
  13. I never got a Joseph Huber record I ordered but that one is on me. I was supposed to pick it up at his show and I never did so that's on me. I missed the Candyman Soundtrack from when I moved and didn't update my address so thats on me. The only one I know of that isn't on me is the Pretty Boy Thorson test press that I ordered 8 months back or so. Edit - Just went and checked I ordered that one in December of 2013. Eh, I'm not mad shit happens.
  14. Is Brand New still a band? I thought they were done. Shows what I know about the trendy VC bands.
  15. This is actually a serious comment, but if you really are hard up and need the $400 for a guitar just sell plasma. You can make a pretty nice chunk of cash doing that. It's not very time consuming and depending on your area and need level you can make $100 in a week.
  16. Eh, my money is in no way special to me, but that doesn't mean I'm going to give it some random guy who had his guitar stolen (allegedly) some of it help replace it. On a scale of 1 to 10 determining how greatly the original poster needs my money he's sitting at a 0.
  17. I do completely understand a dislike of when bands do this. However, with a small band I don't really see the issue. Recently my favorite band (Two Cow Garage) had all their shit stolen from their van in St. Louis. A friend of theirs started a GoFundMe and they ended up raising almost $15,000 in a little over two days. I have no regrets at all about giving them $100. For me I guess my willingness to help fund something like this is how small the band is and if they would likely have the ability to replace the items in a relatively timely manner. With the TCG deal it is pretty crazy that they raised that much in that short of a time but they have a rabid fan base. Plus it probably helped boost numbers that it happened in St. Louis where bands getting their shit stolen is now commonplace.
  18. Ha, well it's not Gatorade it's the Wisconsin original Badger Max Sports Drink buts it the dark blue flavor Blue Torrent.
  19. A(nother) night of music and beers ending with a bunch of hard boiled eggs and gatorade. Could be worse.
  20. My first thought was Broad City. Similar to Workaholics, but not unwatchable in my opinion. I really kind of have Workaholics. If you like nerdy sci-fi stuff Falling Skies is a great series on Amazon Prime
  21. Daredevil is on netflix now, I know what I'll be binge watching this weekend.
  22. I wish I could just a la carte buy some games to watch. I work 2nd shift so I miss most games, but I'd love to have a way to buy games on Saturdays or Sundays when I'm around. Even if it was $5 for a single game I'd buy 6-10 a year. Wish I liked watching baseball at bars more because that would be a more logical method.
