  1. Drunktank’s new album is up for preorder! I’ve already heard it and it instantly shot up to the top of my AOTY list. It’s like some really fun fast 90s epitaph-era skatepunk and some 90s power metal had a love child. it’s super fucking good.

    From Say-10 Records:

“Return Of The Infamous Four” is the long awaited follow-up to their classic album “The Infamous Four” from 2010. Drunktank brings fast, melodic, singalong 90’s skatepunk in the tradition of Epitaph, Fat Wreck Chords and Burning Heart bands combined with riffs and guitar harmonics of 80’s metal.

The album is a collection of the best songs written between 2011-2018 by current and former band members. Most of Drunktank’s former members joined the recording process of this album and contributed backing vocals, which makes this a recording by the Drunktank family.

The album “Return Of The Infamous Four” was mixed and mastered by Cederick Forsberg (Blazon Stone, Rocka Rollas) and features ten fast paced, no frills and super catchy singalong numbers.

(FFO: Lagwagon, Strung Out, A Wilhelm Scream, No Fun At All)

    1) We Want More
    2) Hammer of Justice
    3) Waste Away
    4) Green Button
    5) Hellraisers
    6) Courage of a Few
    7) Raising the Bar
    😎 Army of Darkness
    9) Darker Side
    10) Return of the Infamous Four

  3. I'm out this year, unfortunately. I just moved to a new city and don't really have the time or energy to organize or even participate. After running and participating in this for many years, i've also seen a dramatic decrease of participants the last couple times to the point where it just doesn't seem as fun or worthwhile to stress myself out organizing it, especially having it so late already this year. I hope y'all have fun and hopefully enough people decide they want to do it.

And I appreciate those of you who actually reached out to me about this.

Last week I got another package from @themeconspiracy ... this awesome print by Luke Chueh. I love it, thank you!!

    Gero-Hero.jpg

Yay! I love Luke Chueh so much and saw that print a few years ago and was like "man, I hope I get Batman for Secret Santa one day so i can get him this" then when i got you, i couldn't remember where I saw it. I happened to stumble upon it again randomly and had to go for it. Glad you love your Chueh bat bear!

  5. oh and hey! my secret santa this year was @batman! how about that!

got a couple cd samplers, some stickers (pretty stoked on those mario stickers!), a very lovely note, a few pins (including one not-so-subtle hint as to the sender haha), a Thrice patch, and a LEGO KNIGHT RIDER MINI FIG.

it actually took me a sec to realize what the lego was, but as soon as i put him together i was like HOLY CRAP! MICHAEL KNIGHT! i have a whole collection of carefully curated minifigs and some other random toys (and some hoff swag) that live on top of one of my kallaxes. i go through random spurts of buying them, and its been a while since i bought any. somehow i didnt even know they made a knight rider one and oh man. so freaking pumped. this was a super exciting addition to the collection.

here is knight rider hoff hanging next to my baywatch hoff mini fig (and thats actually a vintage knight rider lunchbox in the background haha)

*not pictured: a bag of awesome texas beef jerky. im not even gonna lie. i already ate the whole bag. it was delicious and i have no self control around dehydrated meats haha. that was so awesome. seriously. i love good jerky and it isnt easy to come by here (although trader joes has surprisingly awesome jerky) so that was definitely a real treat :)

    vinyl!

the appleseed cast - illumination ritual. i enjoyed these guys back in high school. this is their most recent album from a few years ago and i never got around to listening to it or picking up a copy so very curious to check this out.

the good life - i loved this album back in high school! even though i saw them play a couple times back then and have a good life shirt i somehow forgot about these guys for a while. funny enough earlier this year my boss and i started bonding over cursive and tim kasher and i rediscovered my love of the good life as well as got into some cursive albums i never really listened to. somehow i never bought any good life vinyl. i'm pretty stoked. i'm actually going to spin this and then probably fall down a cursive/saddle creek rabbit hole right now while i do some late night cleaning :)

moving mountains - pneuma. i am actually totally unfamiliar with these guys. i feel like i've heard the name but never really checked them out. definitely looking forward to giving this a listen!

also. look how dang pretty this variant is y'all

thank you so much for everything! i think it's so funny that we both got each other especially with our very different musical tastes and still loved everything we got for the other one. i seriously love all of this. and i will love and treasure my mini michael knight forever haha

Just got home. Seriously, @themeconspiracy, you killed it. Everything came wrapped nicely with little notes on everything. Sorry that I wasn't the easiest person to shop for with my weird music tastes and no trade list... I really appreciate the thought and care you put into everything!!

    7"

Manchester City F.C. "CITY!!!! *CLAP CLAP CLAP* MANCHESTER CITY!!!" this is so fucking cool, I can't even. The company I work for has a large office over in Manchester, so when I visited last year, I caught a football match at Etihad Stadium and they played these songs. So cool!!!!!

Metavari - Oh Diane; yuuuge Twin Peaks fan, so this is up my alley. I dig it!

The Firebird Band - Say Hello; I haven't listened to this one yet, but am excited to check it out!

    10"

The Protomen - This City Made us; Mega Man inspired, indeed. This fucking rocks. I'm going to have to look into their full lengths too.

    12"

The National - Trouble Will Find Me; I actually haven't listened to this one. I'm late to The National, and I must have skipped over this one between 'High Violet' and 'Sleep Well Beast'. Excited to check it out!!!!

Empires - Freshwater Reflection; listening to this now and it's up my alley, post-metal moreso than ambient, but I need that scratch itched pretty regularly so it'll get a lot of plays

And for the kiddos, a couple Charlie Brown records, and The Alvin Show. Will have to play these for them this weekend! They always get excited when I play records for them, but I haven't really played any "kids" music. Awesome!

    Miscellaneous

Coffee + Twin Peaks coffee mug; Since I travel so much, I always try to find local coffee wherever I go, so I'm really excited to try this. The mug is epic. My wife opened everything for me via FaceTime since I was out of town and could smell the coffee as soon as she opened the box. Which leads to the next one...

Edit: Just tried the Guatemalan and it's superb. Ground it up a little finer for espresso and made a bomb ass latte--maybe not Dale Cooper approved, but it's damn fine. Might try the Holiday for cold brew!!

Record cat toy; my damn cats both jumped up on the kitchen table as soon as the box was opened because they could smell the catnip!! Couldn't figure out why at first! They're both playing with it now. My younger kitty just keeps licking it, and my older kitty looks strung out:

Astros World Series poster; really appreciate this. I got a copy of the Houston Chronicle from the day after they won the series, and I think this would look really cool framed up next to that. Winning the World Series was so big for this city after Hurricane Harvey. My family and I luckily weren't physically affected, but I know several people that lost everything and are still displaced. Sappy I know, but it really means a lot.

Thank you so so so so much, Lauren. You seriously did way too much. I really appreciate it, and hope that you have a Happy 2018!!

aw yay! i'm so glad you liked everything! i really had a blast shopping for you even though our tastes in music are quite different hahaha. i took some risks on the vinyl part of your package so i'm glad you've dug all the music you've listened to thus far. def check out the rest of the Protomen's albums! i love them so much. and of all the bands you mentioned the national were the only ones i actually knew and i knew i had to get you that album. i'm not a huge national fan but everyone i know raved about that album when it came out and then my boss used to play it all the time at work and i started getting into it as well haha.

your kitty is so cute! i'm so glad they like their toy. that photo made me so happy. your whole post did really. i'm so stoked you were so stoked on everything!  :D

oh and also there's actually another little something on its way to you B) i actually randomly came across something a few years ago and thought it would be such a perfect secret santa gift for you and if i ever had you for secret santa i needed to get it. took a little bit to track down again so hence it being late but decided i'd be sad if i missed my chance haha. i had it shipped directly to you because it was so late but i think it should be there in the next few days :) i hope you like it!

you are correct sir! the $5 was on purpose because, well,  who doesnt like cash? im really glad you liked everything.

ill post pictures of my gift when i have time, but thanks to @scottheisel i loved what you sent. funny how we had each other.

By the time I realized you had each other, it was too late to reshuffle, so just left it. Glad you both enjoyed being mutual Santa's :)

Also, Farewell Continental is such a criminally underrated band. I love that album so dang much and have given it to a few people as gifts myself because, honestly, everyone should have a copy in their collection

  8. sorry about the delay on this. i was just traveling for 2 weeks (cross country road trip and then 6 days at Fest). been super fucking sick since i got home :(

music: my music tastes are pretty all over the place and i tend to like at least a little bit of everything, from quebecois folk music to synthy dance jams to punk to country. i do love me some country. 90s/2000s punk, emo, ska, and hardcore will always have a huge spot in my heart since that’s what i grew up on. i also have a major soft spot for musicians' solo/side projects, especially when it's a totally different genre than the music they're typically known for and bonus points if said side project is alt country  (ex: mike herrera - tumbledown, jim ward - sleepercar, jeremy chatelain - cub country, chad price - drag the river, mariachi el bronx, brett detar, nick 13, etc etc). i’m pretty open to most music. the only place where i get super picky is when it comes to bands with female singers. not sure why, but  i just can’t get into most female singers. im always excited to find new bands or ones i somehow missed along the way. my two favorite albums of 2017 are 88 fingers louie and dragonforce.

i used to do a pretty good job at keeping my DF and discogs up to date but somewhere along the way stopped being so great at that haha.  i do have a want list on discogs, but it’s kind of a hot mess that only makes sense to me haha. i tend to just dump tons of stuff on it and never wind up taking anything off, even after buying it. the bulk of what’s on there is just duplicates/other pressings/variants of things i already own or random things i throw on there that i might grab if they ever popped up for super cheap, but not things i’m actively seeking out. there are still a ton of things on there i do want if that’s helpful information for you to have, but i’d be just as happy with something you love that i’ve never heard of.

movies/tv: horror, comedies, jeunet, aronofsky, lynch, random music docs, cheesy lifetime/hallmark movies, crime shows (pretty much everything on ID), law & order SVU (i’ve seen every single episode. more than once.), orphan black, lost girl, skins, a bunch more things i’m too tired to think of right now.

books: i read pretty much every day on the subway when i commute to work. lately mostly fiction or music/pop culture related books. some of my favorite books include Love is a Mixtape by Rob Sheffield, Geek Love by Katherine Dunn,  and The Great Gatsby.  currently reading Tommy Land and it is actually way better than expected.

other random things i enjoy: zombies, david hasselhoff, butts and butt-related things (no i dont mean in a sexual way get your mind out the gutter haha. long story short. i actually started a punk rock booty appreciation club haha. and now a lot of friends and such give me funny butt related things like pins and koozies), bacon, football, hockey, canadian football, beer, narwhals, my SNES, baking, tattoos and traditional tattoo art. i also love cats. i have one. his name is jäger. he's pretty damn awesome. oh and i really love jerky if you happen to have any cool locally-produced jerky. we mostly just have the boring mass produced stuff up here in brooklyn :(

other random things i collect: random david hasselhoff stuff, art prints & gig posters, way too many band shirts, random small toys,  lego minifigs, and knick knacks that guard my record collection.

  9.  If it's your first fest, my advice is:

    - pace yourself! It's a marathon, not a race.

    - take plenty of water/ food/ rest breaks.

    - diddley will never cap out, but a lot of the smaller venues will (esp high dive, Atlantic, wooly, Loosey's) and double especially for secret sets. Get there early if it's a must-see.

    - be flexible. Your plans will change and you won't wind up seeing every band you want to.

    - eat tacos at flacco's and a gator burrito at Boca. Also hit up the hot dog cart.

    - if you buy a lot of merch, take advantage of the bag check uhaul at high dive. They let you check it for the day and you can add more stuff to it later.

    - if you're not staying at either of the official hotels, still try to hit up a pool party/after party/beer purge at one (warning: you can party out front of the HI, but can't go inside if not a guest. Wyndham, you can).

    - Use the Fest app if you aren't already.  Keep an eye out for schedule changes.

    - hug people and make friends.

    - If you don't go to one of the 88 Fingers Louie sets, you're fucking up ;)

I don't want to speak for anyone here (especially the organizers) but personally I'd be fine with receiving someone who didn't have a full trade list as long as you have a list of your collection somewhere.  If I know what you have then I can figure out something to get you that you don't already have.  Otherwise you won't be receiving any records (which is fine too).

in the past we have been a bit flexible about what defines a tradelist...so long as it gives an idea of what your tastes are and not just leaving your santa in the dark without any idea of what to get you. if you send an incomplete tradelist and get something you already own then thats your own fault haha

plus i know a lot of us got screwed with DF shutting down earlier this month :(

Sounds like a pain for me to sign up since I am newer. Plus I don't have a trade list because I pretty much have what I want. Reach out if someone gets screwed over and I will help out getting them set up.

Nah. You're good. The only thing would be that you need to ship yours out a bit earlier than everyone else. Other then that, you should be fine. Sign up if you'd like :)
