It's pretty easy to assume what you're saying is true from a buyers perspective, but when you're shipping hundreds of records (or for some companies more) on a daily basis it's a little different.

(except when USPS punctures holes through your package, runs them over or melts them)

Many of you are probably thinking "stupid Moonbeams thread. we have this in the sales/wants section." Yeah, its there, but I'm still getting records beat up all the time and I'm sure most people here haven't seen my post. Below is a sure-as-hell technique to prevent corner damage. Give it a chance.

The vast majority of my collection has dinged up corners and other preventable damage from shipping accidents.

All of these accidents could have been easily prevented if sellers put a little more time and care into their orders. Below are some tips that should be rules for sending records.

    Seam splits
Send the record outside the jacket. (You'd think common sense by now, but the last couple of records I received were sent inside the jackets),

*do not send the record outside the dust-sleeve where it brushes against cardboard in the mailer. You should have seen my horror when I received a NM Green Day 39/smooth on green vinyl like this. Whole record will be fucked.

    Water damage
It is common practice to leave an LP mailer in front of someone's door when delivered. It is also common for rain to fall in some parts of the world. Send your records in plastic sleeves. If there's no flap, tape it over so water can't get in. (Last two used LPs I received had no plastic sleeves).

    Corner Damage
Don't be lazy if you're just sending a few packages. Take a moment and do what I do:

See, that wasn't so hard. These people were really happy to get their records in NM condition.

    Bends
Yes, accidents happen, especially with USPS. But it is your job to anticipate all accidents. You don't just put a record in a mailer and send it off. Anticipate that your record will be like a football (either American or soccer ball). Package the record knowing its going go through hell.

    What you need:
    - 2 sheets of STURDY cardboard (note, this will affect shipping costs for sending overseas)
    - tape

Place the jacket and record together (record outside of jacket, inside dust sleeve) inside a plastic sleeve and seal it to protect for water damage. Place the record on a sturdy sheet of cardboard. Cardboard must not be smaller than the record. Tape it centered. Place another sheet on top, center it and tape it. Now open your mailer and tape everything in the center so nothing can slide around. Close the mailer super tight.

After applying the corner things on this type of package, your record is ready for a battle royale. It should survive being dropped, thrown, and punched.

Sorry if I sound condescending. That's just how I talk, actually.

So, I just got home from work 45 mins ago.  As soon as I walked in, my kids (ages 4 & 2) gave me hugs and then started begging to 'sing & dance.'  I let my daughter (the 2 year old) pick out the vinyl.  She choose HEALTH's "Disco" (probably because the jacket has pink on it).  My son couldn't wait to see what color the record was, "Hey, its black!  A black circle!" he exclaimed as I pulled it out of its sleeve.  We spent the next 45 minutes dance, skipping, and going crazy listening to music.  It was awesome.  I love sharing my love of music with them.

It got my thinking: to the other parents, what are some of your kids' favorite albums to listen to with you?  What are some of your favorite experiences listening to vinyl with your children?

    My kids' favorites include:
Fun "Some Nights" Band of Horses "Cease to Begin" Clive Takana's "Jet Siempre no 1" Postal Service "Give Up" Of Monster's and Men "My Head is an Animal" v/a Yo Gabba Gabba's "Super Music Friend Show" (of course!)

The way Ryan talked about it made it seem like an alternative version to what's going to be on the album, but I may have inferred wrong. Anyway, I had to have it for completeness sake.

yes they did, but i didn't bother with it because the b-side was only an instrumental version, and the a side was on the album.

they also had the two conversations repress, two different shirts (tried to buy the red one, but no XLs), and a $40 hoodie.

also cd copies of the new album, and middle states. i think some buttons too.

be prepared for a 2 hour set.

i didn't get out til 1am, and found myself falling asleep standing up during the last half hour, until they played fishing the sky.

I'm an 8th grade math teacher and there is music playing in my classroom always.  The only two exceptions are if they kids are taking a quiz or if I'm in front of the class teaching (which isn't often, my kids work in groups most of the time).
The students really like it, even though they say I listen to weird and/or old music.  Its not often that I'll play stuff they know.  But I will have students ask for suggestions for bands and show me their music (which is usually awful... but I always give it a chance).  [side note: I once had a student suggest a song and I looked it up on YouTube while the kids were working.  The kid told me there were no cuss words, but I (stupidly) played a live version.  Which promptly said: "San Diego, how the fuck are you mother fuckers?!?"  It was embarrassing, but hilarious.]
Anyways, its cool that I get to listen to music all day long and turn kids on to what I consider to be good bands.  Also, I show students pictures of my vinyl and they freak out.  Some have literally never seen a record before.

I listen to two or three LPs during the weekdays. Usually after I get home from work, the kids and I will listen, dance, and sing for a while. Then we'll pick a record or two to listen to while we make and eat dinner.
On the weekends, I'll listen to five or six LPs throughout the day.
At work (I'm a teacher) I'm playing in my classroom all day long.
I also listen to tons of podcasts on my phone while driving, running, or biking.

if someone posts a new or duplicate topic.. just ignore it, go outside or something. stop thinking you're anything special because you've been collecting records for a week longer than someone. Its just douchey to shit on someone thats trying to enjoy a new hobby, and overly annoying for those of us who have been here since this shit started.

seriously. everybody calm the fuck down. everyone knows the traditional record store in recent years has been threatened. some of them are downright desperate and will take advantage of opportunities whenever they come up. you, as the consumer, have the option of supporting them or not. there should be a line where if something is priced too high, people will shop somewhere else. some stores get treated better than others, but like everything else in life, "it's who you know" and life isn't fair.

there are stores i won't shop at and things i won't buy, but i don't need to complain about every god damn person who's made me feel upset.

stores sell things for higher prices because they have employees, rent, electric bills, etc...

so either support your local stores, or don't.
