jhulud
The classic third album from Matthew Sweet — 1991′s Girlfriend, featuring the twin guitar attack of Robert Quine and Television’s Richard Lloyd, plus Lloyd Cole on rhythm guitar — will be reissued on 180-gram vinyl sometime this fall by Plain Recordings in what’s being billed as the record’s first time back on 12-inch since its initial release. Like the original vinyl release, the new reissue will feature 12 songs, not the full 15 that were included on the original CD, which features the sound of a needle lifting off vinyl after “Evangeline” and “Your Sweet Voice,” which was meant to show where the sides would end on the vinyl pressing. Thanks in large part to the hit anime video for the title track, Girlfriend helped launch the career of alt-rocker Sweet, who had come up in the Athens, Ga, scene in the mid- to late-’80s, releasing a pair of major-label albums that didn’t fare well commercially. http://www.slicingupeyeballs.com/2014/03/31/matthew-sweet-girlfriend-vinyl-reissue/

tonyfranciosa
Plain Recordings is still around? Yikes. My OG Classic pressing sounds magnificent.
jhulud
I've been wanting to get my hands on the LP for the longest time. But been very lazy about it. No idea how much an OG copy even goes for nowadays.
youspinmeround
Plain Recordings is still around? Yikes. My OG Classic pressing sounds magnificent. Plain is not that bad I have several releases from them that have no sound issues at all
tonyfranciosa
It's ridiculously expensive these days, if it comes up at all. That was truly the luckiest vinyl purchase I've ever made - scored Girlfriend, Altered Beast, and 100% Fun on the same day from the same store for $10 each. This was in like 2006, though. I don't know the store knew what they had.
tonyfranciosa
Plain is not that bad I have several releases from them that have no sound issues at all I dunno - I've been mostly disappointed with their releases. The Spiritualized, Breeders, and Mr Bungle reissues are almost insulting. Pretty happy with the Ween box and the Mazzy Star reissues. Don't get me started on the MBV work. ratbrain
what a drag. i'd love to have this on vinyl but i've been burned by garbage reissues from Plain Recordings/4 Men With Beards too many times.
bobfrombob
Out of about 4 or 5 things I've heard from Plain, the only one I even kept was Fiona Apple's Extraordinary Machine. I find them to be substandard. Still, this is a great record.
niblips
I'll happily take a chance on this reissue. Was just listening to the CD last week and looked up the price of the vinyl (for a laugh)...... and boy oh boy did i laugh.
rochambo
Nice. I can finally take this off my Discogs wishlist. So damn expensive for the OG

dawhizz
Didn't realize this was sticking with the original track list without the last three songs (I don't read so good). Too bad.

warhenrecords
Worked his show a couple years ago when he played this front to back. Was fucking awesome. Great record. Will eventually snag it somewhere.
The Exquisite Death of NK
Is it weird that I just fell in love with this album? Apparently it has been beloved since its release, but I somehow managed to never hear it until recently. Are his other albums as good? dawhizz
Altered Beast and 100% Fun are. I can pretty much take or leave the rest of his catalog, but those two are the most similar to Girlfriend in sound and quality, IMO. niblips
tonyfranciosa
Blue Sky on Mars has a lot to like too. After that, it's really just his Japanese album (Kimi Ga Suki) that's worthwhile. Too bad, because his first four records are some of my favorite power pop of all time. edit: gah forgot about In Reverse - would kill for a 2_LP set of that!
