dapeebs
I'm fairly unfamiliar with this genre of music, and mostly only know the big names. And even then I don't know much. So any suggestions at all would be appreciated!
TheWindBlower
JMSN He is an R&B artist from LA, originally from Michigan. His debut album, Priscilla, was fantastic. He's gearing up to put out his second record, JMSN, in December. It may have leaked already though. He released an EP, Pillaje, as well. He's got the voice of an angel, and I've been able to talk with him a couple times. He's a great guy, super nice to his fans, and very humble. You may be familiar with his band, Love Arcade, from the early/mid 2000s. They were pretty big for a short period of time. Also, he gave pop music a shot with his moniker, Christian TV. JMSN's new song, "Ends," from JMSN My personal favorite, "Something," off of Priscilla
topher
Not sure if you'd know these guys or not, but I try to rec them whenever I can. I was in the same boat as you for a while. Lots of great stuff out there that changed my mind.

thebiglebowski
Also a huge fan of that Deltron album (from a dude who listens to about 2% hip hop overall). Someone on here posted this album a year or two ago and I love it. Dude took a bunch of 90s tv themes and turned them into rap songs that are all themed after the show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4Ebt5yBvmA\ Also, Doomtree:
topher
Also, I cannot forget to mention DJ Shadow - Endtroducing..... When I was 16, coming from a musical background of mostly alternative and experimental rock, this record was the first hip-hop album I fell head-over-heels in love with. IanRees
Its a pretty big genre so it all depends on what you like, gangster rap (east coast, west coast), underground etc. Some of my favorites though The Pharcyde Freestyle Fellowship Hieroglyphics and anything w/ Del for that matter (Deltron 3030) Binary Star Beastie Boys (Pauls Boutique, Ill Communication, Lisence To Ill) DJ Kool Childish Gambino (Camp) Kid Cudi (Man On The Moon) Wu Tang (36 Chambers) 3rd Base (Derelicts of Dialect) 2Pac Biggie Eminem Army Of The Pharoahs NWA (Straight Outta Compton) The Coup (Genocide & Juice) Snoop (Doggy Style), Dre (Chronic), LL Cool J (Radio)
hudsoncomplex
I'm not a huge hip hop guy, but the new Run the Jewels album is incredible. Blaine
Bladew1ll1s1sdead
I back Childish Gambino. Kool Keith's albums Black Elvis & Dr Octagon were so sick.
joshman150
On the more R&B side check out D'Angelo, great artist. Here's a song that features Method Man from Wu Tang and produced by one of Hip-Hop's greatest producers DJ Premier

bigbruise
But seriously, the only hip-hop show I've been to was Kendrick when he was nobody. Maybe 40 people there. I got real into underground nobodies a few years back. There is some top quality shit out there, I know nothing about it now. I imagine Kendrick is some super star sell out by now? Yeah?
