natenomm
I enjoyed this line from the Pitchfork review today: "when the music is this empty, it might actually be worse than bad." The first line of the review is "Mumford & Sons didn't have to be awful."
Retep
Glad I canceled my pre-order. Streamed it a couple times and only dug The Wolf and Believe at the end of the day, the oomph they had with the two prior albums (as generic as those may be for some) pushed me to really like them. This just sounds hollow to me and in some parts is flat out boring.
throughbeingcruel
I love how big their songs sound for folk songs. I haven't heard any of the new material, but I kinda like Mumford for being Mumford. If it's that different, then I probably don't wanna hear it. That being said, I don't know why I still don't own their first two records. NEEE...
I listened a few times, but the review is spot on. It's not that it's a "rock" album, it's just that the songs are not there, they are trying to hard to be something they are not. Believe is a solid track but for the most part this is not getting my money.
POTUW
Is the generic one poly lined? I've had a couple albums recently come with a printed sleeve but the actual disk came in a poly lined generic sleeve. It's actually a good thing because printed sleeves tend to be pretty rough on records. Yes, it's poly lined and I was thinking the same exact thing. I'll keep the printed sleeve but leave it in the white one. Thanks for the response.
mrewest
I listened a few times, but the review is spot on. It's not that it's a "rock" album, it's just that the songs are not there, they are trying to hard to be something they are not. Believe is a solid track but for the most part this is not getting my money. I honestly feel like they didn't try hard enough here. I really like "The Wolf" & "Snake Eyes", but I feel like there are a lot of other strong ideas that just never develop into anything. It's just very "meh". I hope there aren't b-sides to this album because I can't imagine how dull those songs might be. Now, in saying all of that, I bet a lot of this stuff would sound really good live mixed into their whole catalogue. But as an album, I don't see myself revisiting too many times unless something clicks & it grows on me considerably.
