mrewest
I was emailing Ben because I had an error with my Subsume vinyl shipment and I casually mentioned new vinyl for Woum and he said that he's releasing this as a digital album only. Not sure if he just said that so I quite bugging him haha.

mrewest
I really hope this that isn't the case. I live for his music on vinyl! Yeah I totally agree. His music sounds best on vinyl. I did see him responding to people on Facebook about vinyl with "more info later", so who knows? Maybe there is no vinyl for now but later on he'll do something. Kurazz
Well it looks like its around 25 minutes, pretty much the same length as Little Histories. Maybe we will see a 10". Although I'm beginning to wonder why he won't give a straight answer in response to a vinyl release? Perhaps he has no plans to release it or maybe he plans on doing something special. We shall see. anomynous
Here's the scoop with Woum. I'll make it available for download on Wednesday, because that's the day that I arbitrarily picked for it to be available on all the streaming services and iTunes and everything. It's 7 tracks, roughly 25 minutes which puts it in the "The Map is Not the Territory" and "Let Yourself Be Huge" ballpark. This will no doubt be a bummer for some but Woum and conceivably any future releases will go back to being digital only like everything was pre-Beacons. Sorry, I know how much people dig the physical releases. But I feel like I have a pretty good reason: Making vinyl is a tremendous pain in the ass. For lots of reasons, not the least of which is the 3-4 month lead time on production that always feels like an incredible drag on momentum. I will for sure be losing out on money by doing this, and oh well. The time I'll have back by not dealing with the production and distribution of these things will more than make up for it to me. I've been feeling a little squeezed by the entire merch process recently, and by simplifying things in this way I'll have more time to actually make music, which I'm excited about. Life has gotten busier in the past year and it doesn't look like it will slow down any time soon, so this is a way for me to keep things balanced. Woum is a nice culmination of the past 10 years of making music on my own, and I feel like it reconnected me to the thing that got me into this in the first place: That making music is really fun because you can do whatever you want. Anyway, a very sincere thanks to everyone that has helped me get to this point and I hope we can keep it going for a while. Have a nice day and feel free to ask questions in the comments. radiatorhums
radiatorhums
Thanks! Sad news. His reasoning makes sense to me though. I hope a label steps in and does some physical releases. Maybe not quite like Blood Music did, but something similar.
sequoia
Sad to hear, he kinda got me into vinyl. I wanted to own something physical from him, but since I already had every album in lossless I didn't bother with a CD and bought one of those weird big discs instead. davepriz
He referred to hiring somebody to do merch as a 'cash grab'. I could see where he's coming from but ultimately it's about supporting your fan base. I feel like there has to be a better work around other than this. I know I'm in the minority but unless I'm in my car, I strictly listen to music via vinyl. Not having physical products for cloudkicker will definitely change the attention I give him. mrewest
I have mad respect for any & everything this guy does. Of course I'm super-bummed there won't be anymore vinyl, but if that prolongs how long he keeps making incredible music, then I'm 100% fine with that decision. In fact, I may have more respect for him because he TRULY is proving he does this for the music. And who knows, maybe this will open up another opportunity for live shows someday
drds89
Another one here chiming in respect for Ben's ethic, skills and trying to maintain that magical life balance. it would seem to be a no brainer for those in the business - any of a dozen solid US indie labels or other projects like SlyVinyl - to approach Ben and do what Blood Music did. We're pretty much accustomed to the wait times, right?

mrewest
I do enjoy heavier Cloudkicker the most, but this is a groovy EP. I really wish Emfargo was like 6 minutes long though. Bass heavy CK? MOAR OF THAT PLZ.
