patrickemmons
Not sure if anyone else has already tried this method, but I wanted to display my vinyl on the wall and i concluded i needed a ledge type picture frame shelf. Most I found were only 24" (at least the cheap ones) so I thought about this idea: Get a strip of angle iron with holes in it from Lowes - mount it to the wall using screws through the holes. Put records on the ledge type shelf it creates. I got 2 pieces last night and put one up, worked perfect. I'll post pics when I get the other one up if you guys wanna see. adamlikesmusic
Cant it slide off the angle iron?
hickey
is anything holding it in place? or is it just sitting on the iron and leaning on the wall? i'd be afraid it would fall.
Duff
you could get a piece shaped slightly different, with 3 ends, sort of like a box without a top, instead of one that makes a shelf. that way you could hang one right side up and hang a second one upside down right above it giving enough space for whatever size records you wish to display. that way it would create 2 lips on both ends and your records wont fall off if youre worried about them falling. steventangent
In the early days of the board, someone posted a picture of a little ledge they made that said "Now Playing," mounted above their turntable on the wall. That was pretty sweet.
lostatsea
pics? or didn't....you get the idea
patrickemmons
Sorry for the crappy quality - the 2nd shelf isn't up yet, just got off work, but you can see the one up. I'm trying to figure out a failsafe way of preventing them from ever falling that doesnt damage the jacket. They seem stable though - have converge playing on my little record player under turned up loud and they arent shifting at all.
lostatsea
not to bad. I don't like that there is no lip on the front though. but i guess a shelf wouldn't be any different in that respect.
patrickemmons
the surface is kinda rough so it doesnt want to slip as much as if it was on a wooden shelf.
thesack18
definately needs a lip
danthemjfan23
very resourceful, but if those were my records i'd definitely want a lip (whether the metal is keeping them from slipping right now or not...). still, pretty cool looking. nice idea. flood
get an electric glue gun, and run a thin bead of glue at the end of the strip... it will creat a small, soft raised lip
dietrootbeer
good idea, if i were to do it though id definitely use a wood shelf though... i think itd be a lot easier on the eyes.
timpopkid
Why on earth would you let vinyl sit out on a shelf? They are called DUST SLEEVES for a reason.
xxmartinxx
Why on earth would you let vinyl sit out on a shelf? They are called DUST SLEEVES for a reason. Psst... they don't listen to them anyway.
patrickemmons
Psst... there is a record player thats right underneath of the shelf playing a record. why buy cool looking shit if you aren't going to either display it or play it? i do both. i'm not anal about dust, thats what canned air is for. hot glue lip sounds perfect. as you can see too - the records on there now arent worth more than 15 dollars max
desensitizedbyu
Canned air just pushes dust farther into the grooves. Get a brush.
AsleepOnRocks
Bingo, canned air is bad news for records. Also, no way in hell that i'd let me records sit out like that, unless I had doubles or something... but i'm not big into buying "display" copies or anything. desensitizedbyu
The only time I liked it is when that guy posted a Now Playing ledge like someone said in this thread I think. I looked back for it but it wasn't there anymore, it was pretty snazzy.

iliketurtles
Why on earth would you let vinyl sit out on a shelf? They are called DUST SLEEVES for a reason. Yeah and what's this I've been hearing about people playing their records too!? What the hell is wrong with you people? You'd probably send someone a letter with one of those upside down airplane stamps too. Jeez.
deadformat
Spend less money on "cool ways to display vinyl" and spend more money on buying better records and better hardware.
timpopkid
I don't get it. i think he means he doesnt care if 60 bucks worth of records get ruined. But then why did he buy them? I think I'm asking stupid questions at this point.
