Green Day Kerplunk & 39/Smooth on 120 gram?

Recommended Posts

From interpunk:

Justin,

It is not a typo. The LP's were supposed to be on 180 gram but the pressing plant screwed up. Instead of tossing them they label is selling them. We listed them as 120 gram so our customers will not be confused as to what they are buying. Vinyl weirdoes might think it is cool (not that I don't buy vinyl).

Thanks,

Ryland

uhhhhhhh...that's fucked up. Are the ones that we may have preordered from VC on 120 gram? Cause that may not be worth $20 or whatever to some people.

*edit*

I just looked at the old posting on the VC store, and it says that the rumor was it was gonna be 180gram. But it seems like whoever pressed the record set the price as if it was a 180gram record, right?

EDIT: Amazon has them listed as 120 gram too. Not sure who is right but anyway still keeping my preorder. I need to get Kerplunk (so I can get the sweet children ep which goes for $100+ on eBay) so I might as well pick up 39/Smooth also.

IMO that is no great loss, esp. the Sweet Children...

That's your opinion and I'm not trying to change that. To each his own. The point I'm trying to make is that anyone of the 3 pressings (6 varients) of the original skene! records version fetch $100+ on eBay so it would be worth it if you really want that EP.

If the press was supposed to be 180 gram and the plant messed up, why wouldn't you still push forward and request they do it right? I don't get that. Sure, you could keep the thinner records and sell them - I'd like to think for cheaper - but I don't see why you would do that at the cost of not putting out what the release's weight was supposed to be. Wouldn't you get a discount on the fucked up vinyl? Maybe someone at Adeline fucked up hardcore filling out the forms or whatever a person has to do to get vinyl pressed and that's why there's no 180 gram...?

Speculation, wee!
