thishoax2live4
My local FYE got in a legit amount a vinyl (and good stuff too) and put it on a front and back shelving unit near the front of the store! I live in probably the most least likely place for something like this to happen...but the guys said it had been selling quite well and that they all had heard from the company that this was going to be an ongoing thing now... Anyone else seen vinyl at FYE lately??? I can tell you first hand, as someone who worked for that company for three years...they are the most corporate, money hungry, entertainment store in existence, so their reasons for doing this must be because they've seen a sharp increase in vinyl sales... still, as someone who lives in a city where there are no record stores closer than an hour and 15 minutes away...this is pretty exciting... sharkie
FYE still exists?
memories
FYE is dead and gone.
forgeagain
The one in downtown Chicago has a HILARIOUS used LP section as of last summer. It's one basket in the middle of the store, where everything is $2.99. Everything. My friend who works at the Reckless bought some stuff there that was worth considerably more, as they have no idea what's what. Too bad that stuff will get picked over within a day of being put out for sure. Everything else I saw was pure thrift store filler.
clydethejackal
The one near me has had vinyl close to 2 years now. They never seem to have anything I'm in though and every record is priced around $25 so... fuck that. I also work at one for 4 years. Fuck Transworld. itmustbereal
The FYE in Ogden UT has a large vinyl collection, but its priced pretty high and isnt stored correctly.
jcamps
FYE seems incredibly overpriced to me, also they NEVER let me put local show fliers up I always have to sneak them into the cd bins.
eskimoswim
i only go there for really cheap hard to find movies
Dillhole
I haven't been to a FYE in years. They always seemed far more expensive then the rest. A CD would be $9.99 at Best Buy and $19.99 at FYE. They seem to still use the 1989 CD longbox pricing strategy. Damn place is a joke.
Rip
There's one about an hour and a half away from me that has a decent selection. I've only been there once, but when I was there I picked up Bright Eyes - Digital Ash In A Digital Urn and Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea. The one at my local mall doesn't have any vinyl though :/.
plasma36
FYE is so bad. Overpriced everything and super lazy storage.
stopthisnoise
So overpriced. The only vinyl they ever got was Everything To Nothing by Manchester Orchestra and I got the only copy. I haven't seen any releases on vinyl there since
raidenradio
The one near me just has the As I Lay Dying "Holy Crap Who Would Want All This Junk?" Mega-Deluxe $120 boxset. I sold them some games once. I asked them why they buy used games, but don't sell them. The clerk just shrugged his shoulders.
almightyseancore
theres an FYE right by my guitar players apartment. i need to stop by and see if this is true. but, there is an amazing record store about a block further down, so i can probably find anything FYE has there, for less. still worth a look i suppose. thomasj182
My FYE has a decent selection of vinyl. However, I would never buy from there because FYE is ridiculously over priced, even their used selection is over priced. The way the store the vinyl is horrible, it looks like everything was thrown around in the stock room then put out. Shit's all dusty and beat to shit! Fuck that store. circlingvultures
Ours went out of business before a used section ever developed but they had vinyl for a long time. All main stream and expensive but it was there.
itmustbereal
I remember one time I found a deal at FYE - it was those Jimi Hendrix re-issues from last year, they had them for 11.99 (even the 2x lp's). I had already bought them, but that was an amazing price. As far as I can tell, since then its been pretty rough.
plasma36
The local FYE shut down a few years back, don't think they ever had vinyl.
Tim McCall
FYE is so bad. Overpriced everything and super lazy storage. I strongly believe that between FYE's awful prices and the rise of Napster is what neutered the mainstream music business.
bobert612
apparently the FYE at the Rock Hall here in cleveland has some vinyl. have yet to check it out though, havent been there in years

No used stuff, and most of the prices were reasonable. I picked up a Beck 7" for $4.
thishoax2live4
To those saying the prices are awful... On CD's yes. But almost all (with the exception of crazy packaging and double LP's) of the LP's were between 16-21 dollars. Which is about the cost of one LP after shipping...Almost every record I own I've had to order offline because there no record stores near me, so it doesn't seem that bad to me... But again, I worked there for 3 years, and know first hand how expensive this place is on the CD/DVD side of things.
xjustinxschwierx
was at one a few weeks ago, everything was suuuuper expensive, but I did raid the cheapo used CDs for some pretty decent albums.
GradedOnACurve
The FYE in Philly had a lot of vinyl...but of course is overpriced and stacked VERY poorly on shelves. Most of the shelves were collapsing too...

Most of the shelves were collapsing too... What was so bad about how they have theirs stacked? The LPs in the cubby holes look fine, if not a little tightly packed. The cubby holes which are diagonal and placed so that they face up just scream "seam rips," though.
