Vinyl on airplanes?

So, I'm going to China with my brother and a few friends this spring break. It's my first time flying out of country and I was just wondering, would I be able to take records back with me on the plane? I wasn't sure if vinyl in general was allowed on planes. This all may be an obvious "yes" or "definitely not", but yeah, I'd appreciate the help.

If so, does anybody know of any good record stores in the main "tourist" areas of China, such as Xian, Beijing, or Shanghai?

Yes, records are fine as long as they are in a bag/box of a size that fits with the carry-on policies of the airline. If they're in a bag from a record store, keep a close eye on them while going through security. One time the line got backed up and a bunch of people's bags/stuff nearly crushed my bag of records.
