Clip one end off and solder your own cables in if you don't like what comes with it.  Or break out the drill and add some RCA jacks to the back and use whatever cables you want with ease.

I have done this to several tables I have owned.

On the Orbit? I think it's going to be a low end table. Nice compared to an Ion, but still low end. Why invest in a table that's cheap plus all the upgrade when you could invest in just a better table? Or a better cart? Again, think about the entire system. Speakers, amp, pre, cables, not just the turntable!

Explanation why you think this is going to be a low end table, and your definition as to what a low end table actually is? Just curious.

ajxd holds that even the Carbon is entry-mid level and technically it is with all that the audiophile spectrum holds.

Yeah with that kind of analysis, I agree. I actually look at it different. I see the Carbon as "entry audiophile" and the Ion as low end junk. I think there's a HUGE separation between the 2 as well. I see the Orbit as between both but closer to the Carbon than the Ion. Of course all of this is just speculation right now.

Carbon is very entry level. No mid about it. With the Uturn...

Tonearm is pretty crappy. Seems like a dinky cheap metal. Cartridge is very low end. Motor is built into the plinth. The sub-motor chassis seems to also be solid in the plinth. I'm not 100% but I thought the RCA cables are attached, big bummer there. The plinth is thin. Platter is metal. Attached dust cover. Cheap feet. Power source attached to plinth.

There's just a lot of added up factors that make me dislike it.

RCA cables are not attached, they mentioned that in a response to a question someone asked on the kickstarter.

I think what people are trying to say is, don't trick yourself into thinking you are getting an audiophile piece of equipment that is endlessly upgradable with the Orbit.  Will it be the best turntable you can get for $150?  Maybe, and maybe that's good enough for you, but don't set your expectations super high and don't get pissed when people call your table "entry level" or whatever.

I have trouble seeing why anybody should care. The word "audiophile," as I mentioned earlier, is completely watered down by this point. It should really truly only mean those people for whom sound quality is something they pursue in their life to the point of being an obsessive hobby.

I love music, I have a pretty sweet record collection, I want things to sound good, but if I have a setup that sounds good to my ears, why should I give a shit if someone else says it's not good enough? And why should anybody else get their panties in a bunch over the gear that I like to use?

I can't remember if it was in this thread, or on another board, but somewhere I saw some discussion about people saying, "I just hate the idea of people buying these and going on about how great their system sounds." Something like that, in short. And I can't help but wonder why in the god damn ever loving hell anybody should give a shit! It's like when you bring up Beats by Dre gear to tr00 audiophiles. You wanna see a dude blow his top...

All that said, I don't have the money to throw at this right now. If I did, I'd consider it as a "bedroom" turntable. I'm one of those terrible non-audiophile types that likes having an auto return on my turntable, though, and this one doesn't have it. Because I like to listen to my records as I fall asleep sometimes.

God bless audiophiles, though. Someone has to be concerned about audio quality, as more and more people seem to accept shittier and shittier sounding music these days.

It seems to me that if a fledgling company claims that its revolutionary new entry-level turntable will "satisfy the audiophile or aesthete in you" with its "audiophile design" and "re-engineered essential audiophile components," then openly and critically discussing the merits of said "audiophile" turntable is a perfectly legit course of action ... especially since, you know - this is a discussion board about Turntables and Other Audio Equipment.

Unless of course I passed the door that said "for audiophiles only" and accidentally walked into the exclusive room for "people who don't give a shit."

Point being, it's perfectly fine if you could give a rip about what is audiophile and what isn't.  But if I want to talk about the legitimacy of a turntable company that is fairly liberal with its use of the word "audiophile," that's kinda okay too.

Entry Level as in what though? There are obviously some serious grades below the Carbon that would be complete disrespect to the build of the Carbon, to group it along with.

When I think entry level, I think a TT that isnt a child's Fisher Price toy, such as the Ion for example.

That orange color is awesome. I'm still having trouble pledging. Should I pledge the 250 for the acrylic platter and new cartridge? From what I understand, the acrylic platter reduces static and does not require a slip mat. Is there any other perks I am not aware of? Is that cartridge that much better? I am really just an everyday listener. I obviously go for the best sounding quality in everything, but i'm no audiophile.

Yeah, this isn't going to be a high enough quality piece of gear for kids to listen to their candy colored hot topic pop punk records on.

Seriously. The other section of this board is THE WORST. Good god, I cannot believe how littered this board is with some seriously awful kids music.
