kevinxabney
For those that have an acrylic platter: Would you recommend it? Does it really make a significant difference? Well, I haven't used the standard platter to be able to compare... most people in this thread have said it makes a difference. All I know is that it sure as shit looks cool. horrorbusiness138
I looked through several pages of this thread and couldn't find this, but how much do they charge for shipping?
holland623
I looked through several pages of this thread and couldn't find this, but how much do they charge for shipping? $20 on top of the price of the turntable.
kevinxabney
$20 on top of the price of the turntable. Beat me to it. I was typing out a reply already... haha.
horrorbusiness138
$20 on top of the price of the turntable. Cool. I'm going to order soon and I couldn't find a price on shipping with out actually entering my info/CC/address. I appreciate the info! kevinxabney
What exactly is the benefit of an acrylic platter? It supposedly cuts down on resonance and lowers your noise floor. But for casual listeners (including myself) it's not a super noticeable difference. You don't have to use a mat though - and like I said before; it looks rad. Plus reduces static if used without a mat.

kforkevin777
Would you suggest using it without a mat? I was thinking of getting a cork mat but a lot of people have said they're using this without one.
horrorbusiness138
I'm most likely going with the acrylic platter myself.
WalnutSoap
Man, I hope these guys start taking international orders soon. Totally blows that I can't get my hands on one of these.

Debated buying a clamp if I decide to play it directly on the platter as well.
kevinxabney
If you use it with a mat, you might as well not get the platter upgrade. The whole point is that the acrylic is close to the same material that makes up the physical records.

The only mats I use are acrylic ones on decks that have brass or alloy platters.
drownmeinestrogen
Thanks for the input. Would either of you recommend a clamp?
allenh
I use a clamp rather than a weight as I worry about the extra load on the bearing and drag on the belt on start-up when using a weight but it's horses for courses on that one. There are a lot of good designs about so you would need to do a bit of research and it depends on whether you are using belt or direct drive and whether your turntable is sprung or not. corey.
This is really cool. The design is awesome and a good price. I'm just now seeing this for the first time. I wonder how it compares to the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon cause there are some things about this U-Turn I like more than my Pro-Ject. Like not needing to lift up the platter to change the belt/speed for one haha. Anyway, looking forward to see how people think these are. I've yet to see a negative review from someone who owns the table, but yet a few "audiophile bloggers" have made claims about them being not so great. kforkevin777
All the negative reviews from those audiophile dudes seemed really sketchy, like others in this thread have mentioned.
kevinxabney
Yeah, they were all really odd seeming. Who knows...
drownmeinestrogen
Yeah, the only negative review I read was the Wirecutter one and it seemed like a total sham. Only have seen positive reviews otherwise.
StrangeTerrain
Okay so i got shipping confirmation today (finally..) however about a month ago i asked if they could change the color from black to blue and they said they did but it says black. And i upgraded the cart a few weeks ago (which is already paid for) and they gave me the wrong one.... This is not my week.
