steventangent
Go to a record show. Pick up tons of sweet "classic" albums for just a few bucks a piece. monsterrod, homework and kriss
kriss
^ wanted so badly to say something about going to a physical place (NOT an HT location, either!), but it seemed so pointless, given the direction this thread has taken. somethingvinyl
Guest
Go to a bunch of Goodwill stores and you could easily amass the biggest collection of musical soundtracks and "Singing with Mitch" albums ever.
paintedinexile
I've gotten some stuff at antique stores, Goodwill, and Half Priced Books. Mostly old classic rock stuff, but still cheap nonetheless. Even found a first press of Thrice's The Illusion Of Safety for $3 not too long ago at an antique store. Oh, and you can sometimes find great things at garage sales too. moonbeams
Legit albums you can find online that won't rape your wallets. List them, I'll start: Q And Not U - No Kill No Beep Beep $12.98 Minus the Bear - Menos El Oso $17.95 Both on ebay. I'm new to this, but I'm not looking to spend $300 on a Brand New or Circa Survive album. Especially when it's from someone who bought it to line their pockets. Help each other out here. GO!!! Unsolicited advice here: Perhaps it would benefit you the most to ask yourself your goals in building a collection. Do you want original presses? Do you want valuable records (rare/colored)? Do you want the highest quality sounding pressings (usually the earliest)? Do you just want a copy to play? Which is more important to you, a record shelf full or various releases, but lacking your absolute favorites or a select few of your favorite releases? Yes to answers 1, 2 and 3 will often go together: save money, buy less records you don't need. Yes to answer 4: buy the most recent pressing. If there is none available, email the label to ask if it will be repressed. People often drop big money on a record only to have it repressed a short time later. For question 5, if it's more important to you to get the best copes of your favorite records, then hold off on buying stuff until you can budget an expensive record. ajismetal
In 2013 I have set up some guidelines for myself. 1) Don't be impulsive 2) Set a limit to how many records you can purchase in a 2 week or month period (whatever is better for you). 3) When a album comes out and you get the feeling "YOU HAVE TO BUY IT". Listen to it/the band on Spotify first and see if you still have that impulsive feeling to get it. 4) Look at your bank account before you make a purchase, and ask yourself is it worth it. themeconspiracy
Also http://www.polyvinylrecords.com Great bands and great prices. i have to second this. also, every summer, polyvinyl does a "garage sale," where they sell off "less than perfect" copies of all their albums and other merch that they deemed unfit to sell at the standard price. everything's discounted at different price points based on how "less than perfect" they are. i picked up a ton of great records during one of these sales a few years back, all at under $10 each. i went for the lowest price options and was super surprised when i got them in the mail and saw that the imperfections that led to such deep discounts basically amounted to minor corner dings. really great deal, especially since i've had plenty of records i bought at full cost show up with more damage simply due to improper packing. futures
The Best Buy thread was helpful to me, maybe check that out since it's updated regularly with vinyl sales by the OP. Best Buy is also offering free shipping at the moment.
apirk
Going to use this thread to fluff one of my favorite labels In the Red records. Everything is priced extremely fair all 7" are $6ppd and all 12" are $15 ppd. Pretty hard to beat those prices and then you add the fact that they put out amazing records makes it even better. One of the few labels where I have faith in buying an album completely blind based on what they say about it and I've never been disappointed. http://www.intheredrecords.com
