jerseydave77
Looks like Hoboken is about to be officially dead to me: http://www.nj.com/entertainment/music/index.ssf/2013/06/maxwells_a_hoboken_rock_instit.html#incart_river That town has become worse than a shopping mall in the past decade so while this hurts it certainly doesn't surprise. Besides the Stone Pony this is the only other venue that I can say I've been seeing shows at for 20 years.
GradedOnACurve
Banquets record release was my first show there. And I said it was a nice space/venue. C'est la vie.
jerseydave77
I caught some great shows there. It's also the venue for the worst fight I've been part of. The reality is that NJ is about to lose a lot of good touring bands - they booked that place as if it was on the A-List of venues despite its size. 3fingersdown
I spent a lot of my youth going here and seeing some of the best punk shows I've ever seen. I saw Zeke there a few months ago and it was a little depressing how empty it was... Maybe this is for the better.
jetsfan4ever80
Horrible news. This is my favorite NJ venue with the exception of the parking situation. Happy I'm going to see Titus Andronicus there in July right before they close. Total bummer...
mclz
Very upsetting. I've only been to a few shows there, but they were all memorable. The first show I ever went to there was maybe sometime in the late 90s when my older brother's band played one of their first shows there. randomfortunepa
That is really crappy news. While I have only been there a few times I really enjoyed it. I regret not going to the Bad Manners and Screaming Females shows up there now. I will check out the schedule to see if there is anything coming up I'd be interested as a last hurrah. Edit: Looks like all the shows I would go to are either sold out and or a weekday. Bummer.
suchashorttime
and the news comes on a monday. this is heartbreaking. i've seen bands in most north / central jersey venues, and maxwell's just has a special feel. never bouncers hassling you, no backstage to separate you from the band, bands of all sizes and genres, and good vegan chili. i'm really bummed out about this. i've seen some of my favorite shows at maxwell's. if any of you nj/ny folk want to orchestrate a meet up for one of their final shows, i'm in. it'd be cool to meet some of you and see this place off. jerseydave77
I expect a few All-Star gigs to be announced. Those final weeks at CBs were sick. I'd expect a scaled back Jersey version to develop.
idreamofpunk
Saw Titus Andronicus there back in '11 the night before Bamboozle. That whole trip (Dave Hause on the Thursday, Titus the Friday, Bamboozle on Saturday, Dave again on the Sunday, Fake Problems in Lansing, MI later that week, and Chuck Ragan opening for Social D later still) was one of the best trips I ever took, and Titus at Maxwell's really held it together. Such a good show.
companyinkrecs
played there with Houston Calls once. I felt important. RIP. collectivemike

futures
This is such a bummer! Maxwells is such a unique place to see shows.
BuzzersonKillwell
Saw The Bronx there and it was one of my favorite shows! I didn't make it there often but it always seemed to have decent shows. Maybe they'll be a band I like in the run up to close.
suchashorttime
someone said they are re opening a venue in jersey city this is of interest to me. i am likely moving there in the next couple months.
Duff
last time i was there was to see Hot Rod Circuit on their farewell tour. one of the best things about Maxwells is their ticket prices are pretty much always under $20. .
jetsfan4ever80
someone said they are re opening a venue in jersey city I've heard this too, but I think I heard it from the anonymous butthead commenters on Brooklyn Vegan - so I take it with a grain of salt. jetsfan4ever80
I have a question for people who are more familiar with Hoboken/Maxwells. I'm going tonight and was wondering if anybody had any recommendations when it comes to parking. The two times I've been there I've been lucky enough to snag a spot at the garage Maxwells subsidizes, but both times I grabbed one of the last spots available. Are there better options if I can't get parking there?
suchashorttime
So Maxwell's is having a closing block party on Wednesday the 31st. I'm gonna be there with my roommate. Anyone else from the board planning on heading out for it? I'd love to meet up for beers if anyone else was planning on going.

ksleap
What's going on there? There isn't too much info on it. I had a lot of great times there. It's would be nice to go.
