paying 99 dollars for load isn't any sort of deal i don't care how rare the record is

I would not collect variants if it were just the colour of the album that differs, however I do have some of my favorite albums twice, provided they have alternate artwork. I think the ability to say you have the "Complete collection" of something is what some people strive for. They are simply completionists, which is something you'll find in all kinds of collecting, not just records.
 
I also doubt people do this for every single band they enjoy listening to either. Its usually one or two that hold a special place in their heart. (aww...)

It's the same as with anything people collect.
What if you were a coin collector? You wouldn't stop and say, I've already got a penny in my collection so I don't need this rare or hard to find penny.
Collecting is collecting. People just do it at different levels.

Anyone know if this album will get pressed anytime soon? I know a majority of OF's bigger artists (Tyler, Mellowhype) have pressed their LPs, so I'm curious as to why this one wasn't.

As I do every year I will continue hoping they finally repress "There's Nothing Wrong With Love"

UPDATE: I have been in the process of listing these things on eBay over the past few days simply because I need to sell these records sooner than later and due to financial troubles I do need to get as much for them as I can. I already posted the link in the eBay thread, but I'll also leave it here because you all can feel free to make offers on these records if they have no bids. That way you can see roughly the prices I am looking to get for them.

Reasons people are going crazy:
 
1. Guardians of the Galaxy was a great film.
 
2. It's part of the white-hot Marvel franchise.
 
3. Cassettes, formerly only embraced by the DIY community, are coming around and becoming trendy again (see: Cassette Store Day, Ty Segall tapes, etc).
 
4. It's marketed as "limited edition."
 
5. It's marketed as part of Record Store Day - Black Friday.
 
6. The music on it isn't half bad.
 
7. It greatly resembles a prop from the film, so beyond the music it's a nice conversation piece.
 
8. It's the sort of item that got non-record collectors into stores to hunt down; record collectors are competing with casual and/or non-collectors for this item.
 
9. It's the first cassette Disney has manufactured since the early 90s, so I'm sure there's some crazy Disney collectors who want it just for that.
