Sounds like your stylus can't handle the scratches. All records get superficial scratches. As Matt said it's a piece of plastic in an usually abrasive piece of paper. Some cartridges better than others at handling scratches. Cleaning them does not make scratches go away, but it'll clean out the grime in the area you think might be from a scratch. Rarely shit happens and you do get a deep scratch, but the odds are your stylus/cartridge is set-up incorrectly/or shows every imperfection in the vinyl.

I try to put a few things up on discogs every week.  Not aggressively trying to thin down, but freeing up a bit of shelf space now and then helps.

I have a job interview for a studio coordinator position at School of Rock next week. I'm pretty fucking stoked on it. Between the insanely nerdy email I sent the manager/owner, my obsession for music, my work experience, my years of touring, and the fact that a family friend (who works in radio) knows the owner, referred me, and talked me up, my chances are pretty damn good. The gig is my kind of hours, only 25 minutes away, and most importantly revolves around music. For anyone who isn't familiar with School of Rock, it's a music school just like how they do at the end of the movie, but bigger - so it's a music school. Fingers crossed for this, cause it's a job I can do well, somewhere I'd actually want to work, there's room for growth, and most importantly I can talk about music all day long!

I have looked into this a little further.    It looks like importcds/ccmusic/deepdiscount/oddbanana all share a common heritage with the big California distributor Super D  (www.sdcd.com).    
 
I am not sure how all of the shipments coming from Kentucky figure into it., but I see that many other types of businesses also have warehouses in the Louisville / Shepherdsville area.  It must be their proximity to the big UPS hub there.
