  1. It was worth the $100 to me simply to not have to deal with the annoying felt mat.
  2. Quoting Slinch from another thread located here: "As for the stand-by mode, it's actually better than turning the amp off when not in use. All the electronic parts will work better and longer if they have a constant current present. My amp doesn't have a stand-by mode, but I leave it on 24/7, I only turn it off when I know I won't be home for over a day." Personally, I use my amp (PM5004) pretty much every waking hour spent at home so I only really turn it off if I am away for the weekend or something.
  3. the PM5004 is no different. The on/off on the remote is simply toggles the standby mode. That said, I never really turn my amp off.
  4. yeah...but there is basically zero chance that even a professionally produced youtube video is going capture any difference between the two aside from the color (Blue > Red).
  5. not a huge savings or anything but Outlaw is running a sale on the 2150 ($50 off) through 7/31.
  6. To elaborate on my comment--I am simply skeptical of any bi-amp/bi-wiring features offered by most receivers. I know my Onkyo HT receiver offers a "bi-amp" option and while I am sure it sounds different, I am not confident that it sounds discernibly better. Based on my admitted bias against these sort of features as being mostly marketing gimmicks, I further assume that any receiver offering these features as a selling point is automatically worse than a basic integrated amplifer. Good luck with your search. Interested to find out how this works out for you.
  7. bi-amping or bi-wiring? I think that bi-amping usually suggests more than one amp--are you buying 2 new amplifiers?. bi-wiring is mostly a gimmick.
  8. not much of a comic book guy, but Grant Morrison's JLA run is pretty good. starts here: http://www.amazon.com/JLA-TP-Vol-Deluxe-Editions/dp/1401233147/ref=tmm_pap_title_0
  9. Riot Fest Chicago lineup updated. Motorhead, Bad Brains, and Attack! Attack are off the bill. bands added: The Pixies Joen Jett and the Blackhearts Suicidal Tendencies Andrew WK Hatebreed TSOL Off With Their Heads The Flatliners Nativ Hostage Calm The Interupters New Beat Fund Pet Symmetry
  10. That has been my experience. I have gotten some killer deals on brand new stuff ordering used-like new. It's always going to be YMMV, but since it's Amazon...returns are fairly painless anyway.
  11. Go for it. I bought this set used like new a few weeks ago and it arrived in original packaging with nothing wrong that I could find. EDIT: Full disclosure--Given that they list 18 in inventory, I picked up a second copy for the girlfriend. 17 left!
  12. I would think that finding an orange ski mask would be the easy part given that it's Wisconsin and probably 50% of ski masks sold are orange.
  13. That show was 2 blocks from my place. I walked by and thought about popping in to see if they had anything interesting for sale, but decided to skip it. oh well.
  14. That's really unfortunate. I order things from MF all the time and have never had an issue.
  15. I assume these are all used? assuming used and in good condition--seems like a reasonable price. No idea what these would all cost individually in Candaland, but even in USD it would be a hefty discount over new prices (Table + Cart + Speedbox = $350 + $225 + $130). PS: Is it wrong to want a 2m Blue simply because it matches the color of my table?
  16. I ordered a Music Hall Acri-Plat platter from B&H. At $100, it's a reasonable savings over ordering the Pro-ject Acryl-It platter ($130) and seems to be identical. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/853829-REG/Music_Hall_ACRI_PLAT_ACRI_PLAT_ACYLIC_PLATTER_for.html
  17. for those of you that care: for those of you that do not care. stop being jerks and care more.
  18. I could be horribly mistaken, but I would assume that a "line" setting would use the internal preamp to bring the signal up to a "line" level and a phono setting would bypass the internal preamp and deliver a "phono" level signal to an external preamp.
  19. There should be some club shows coming. Probably around the time they announce the festival schedule. Word is Lemmy isn't doing so hot...maybe an additional band to replace Motörhead? Anybody who is still waiting for the single day tickets to go on sale is basically a complete chump.
  20. regarding hotels/transit. Last year I had reasonable success with Priceline. Ended up paying $100 a night to stay at the Blackstone downtown. Bought a 3-day unlimited CTA pass and had no problem getting around. If you want to do it on the cheap, your best option is probably staying near O'Hare and just take the Blue line in.
  21. My girlfriend listens to music through the speakers on her off-brand LCD TV. You got her beat.
  22. I highly recommend the VIP pass. If you were expecting to drink 15 beers over the course of 3 days, you're already coming out at least $5 ahead. The lounge area was pretty ok and I thought that the VIP stage access was very fair.
  23. interesting article on the circumstances around Riot Fest landing the Replacements http://www.startribune.com/entertainment/blogs/211470321.html Not a ton of information in there, but I still found it worth reading.
