yes. and I believe, deep in my heart, that they're actually very popular among turntable users.
 
realistically, I own 3 pairs of low/mid-rangish book shelf speakers and Def Techs are my least favorite of the 3, but I would still say they sound pretty good.

price seems out of whack for those speakers.   watch prices on Newegg or set an alert on slickdeals.  You should be able to save at least ~$100 on the pair.
 
I should add that used to use the older version of those speaker (monitor 70s) and I do not really recommend them for music.  Your $400-$500 is better spent elsewhere.

Do you actually have it set up that way?  First order of business should be to upgrade your speaker placement.

The Descendents were great...when they headlined the same festival the year before last.  It's nice that they're back, but it's not enough to get me excited.
 
And Slayer...well...cue the cartoonish bearded hipster guy who owns more faded Slayer T shirts than he can name Slayer songs and always plays Raining Blood at least once per outing so he and his friends can all yell 'SLAYER!' and make metal faces at each other .

Hold up buck-o.  I don't think that anybody appreciates you implying that the OP is some sort of dickless gom-tard who would waste dozens of people's time with a "problem" that could have been resolved by spending 15 seconds formulating a Google query.

To answer your question of "why not...":
I don't see you post much in this forum, so you may or may not know about the over abundance of duplicate threads asking about the same needs in the same price ranges. There is also a beginners thread, where there are many, many discussions and recommendations, which I consider a safe zone for people who, for example, cut and paste links to equipment they know nothing about, or haven't even looked at.
And why get such hurt feelings over it any way? I didn't make a personal attack. The OP did something foolish. I pointed it out in a snarky, sarcastic manner, which I am not apologetic for. There were a lot of things about that list that are lazy and sloppy, if the OP had cared to do any research for him/herself, he/she at the least would have posted a better list, at best he/she would have found the numerous other threads and had an answer and would have never had to lazily cut and paste a list he/she knew nothing about.

I usually don't post at all in these threads for the reasons above, but that list was so uninformed, it was obvious the OP didn't even look into what was being pasted. Music Direct has some pretty good prices on Diamond series speakers.  They are listed as "DEMO" models so you should assume that is what you will receive. 
 
However, they have listings pretty much across the whole line and in various finishes so I would not be suprised if you received them new in box.
