The good news is you're in for a treat - his music is pretty incredible. Get yourself a Spotify account and start listening. Ziggy Stardust, Man Who Sold The World, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, and Low just to start. But even any greatest hits will do to get you going.

You might get made fun of for not knowing who he is (or possibly other influential artists), but use it as an opportunity to get your mind blown - if not by Bowie, then by the many artists you've never heard. Some of my first listens to artists like Bowie, Van Morrison, Big Star, Tom Waits, etc. were so important to me in my teenage years....

The immature users decided to be immature with their comments especially the last guy Derek who was just instigating.  Hopefully that attitude doesn't come into this thread by me making this comment.

My clear one came on Saturday. Last night I went to bed early and the last thing I did was play the new album. I woke up this morning and saw the news that he died. That was a little eerie and was the worst way to start the work week.

I've always liked Bowie since I was a little kid. When I was in grade school in the 70's (yes, I'm a dinosaur) I used to play my dad's "Changesonebowie" album all the time.

My local store only got 4 copies of the black and I scooped up the last one last Friday. It really does look fantastic. ...cried all the way to work this morning.

Damn. I got shipping confirmation from B&N for the clear at about 2am this morning. Then dozens of emails from here. NOT the reason I wanted them! This is too sad for words. I can't believe it....

Don't buy from barnes and noble, they are garbage. Their inventory management is atrocious. I can't wait for them to go out of business or just turn into a full blown lego store.

Exclusive variants at inflated prices... hmm.  That Workingman's Dead with the brown and gold swirl is kind of tempting, especially since those are my alma mater's colours.  No photos of the vinyl though.  Are these available in stores?

What a joke statment - "B&N's selection of exclusive titles isn't too shabby."

Go to a record show or start digging records off the internet.  Total NOOB comment.

I drove 1 1/2 hours 1 way today to Portland Maine. I bought 2 of them (1 for me, 1 for a member on another site). They still had at least 3 left. I believe that was the only Bmoose that had them in stock.

I pre-ordered the clear in november, and the estimated shipping date was today and it did not arrive. If I wind up not getting a clear, I'm going to be pissed.

    Here's an update.

The package left Las Vegas center at 8am then returned to the Las Vegas center at 5:18pm and then left again one minute later.

Really interested to get the package in my hands and see what about it caused the post office to be so confused about its destination.

Next time, when she asks for $5 to deliver your new package, also give it to her without asking any questions or requiring a receipt.

dutchflowers reacted to itsgoodtobefree in PO: Star Wars: The Force Awakens OST (John Williams) and Original Trilogy on Colored Vinyl
Eh, I disagree. It feels like the majority of the prequel trilogy is made up of characters having boring political discussions while sitting on couches or taking slow walks in front of a blue screen. That really isn't what makes Star Wars "Star Wars" for me.

Yes, you can pick certain parts out of the prequels that are okay, but I really do think they miss the point of why people loved the original movies in the first place. The originals had likable and memorable characters with actual personalities, a simple, yet effective plot, and lightsaber duels that actually had some meaning behind them. I mean I guess the Darth Maul fight was pretty well choreographed. But in the prequels, the lightsaber battles are just emotionless, perfectly-choreographed, pointless action scenes for the most part. The last fight in Episode III could have been excellent but it last forever and took place in the most ridiculous setting. That lava surfing part is just laughable.

Then jump to the new movie. Yes, the plot is kind of "safe" and some parts are obviously taken from A New Hope. But the execution is so right compared to the prequels. The cast is fantastic and I actually care about the characters. The comedic moments are actually funny. The pacing is excellent and it feels like something is actually happening throughout the whole movie. From a story standpoint, it's actually very simple, which is engaging! No convoluted plot about trade federation blockades. And the lightsaber fights actually have emotional weight behind them.

I'm going to have to see the movie again to give my full thoughts on the score. But the first minute of The Force Awakens feels more like Star Wars than the prequel trilogy ever did, in my opinion.
