Yeah, I don’t think it’s really that weird.  It was to be expected when a band significantly shifts their sound.  This isn’t Thrice where they’ve been slowly evolving their sound for years on every consecutive album, the last albums Underoath had were straight ferocious.  This album is not.  It’s not that the album is bad or not good, but it is very different, and that takes adjusting to even if you’ve decided you like it.  The question is whether you like that Underoath is now a band with pop hook catchy choruses that are comfortable being on the radio with much less ferociousness.  If you’ve evolved the same way the band members have since their last album, then it’s peobably no big deal.  If you’re not, you’re probably sorely disappointed.  That is the split.  Band had to have seen this coming.

Awesome.  What’s everyone’s thoughts on it?  I’m liking it.  Took me a couple listens though to feel like I adjusted to it.  Feels less guitar dominant to me, which is different.  Maybe a little more Thomas Giles feeling?  Highlights for me is Condemned and Blot.

    1) I officially don't like Matt Squire. "Get rid of all the breakdowns and shit".
    2) I'm really tired of hearing artist regurgitate "we grew up" bs. I get it. Influences change. You mellow out somewhat when you have to begin being an adult. But only to a certain extent. My go to example of a band "growing up"/"growing older" yet losing absolutely no energy - Every Time I Die. Keith an Co. are approx 4-5 years older than Aaron, Spencer and the rest of UO. Yet ETID just put out possibly they're most aggressive and pummeling albums to date (2014's From Parts Unknown & 2016's Low Teens).

And so what if they sound very similar to previous albums. That didnt make me dislike them or not enjoy their newer work because it was still in the vein of the stuff from their twenties. Keith even had a side project where he primarily sung. And I'm sure that outlet provided him the opportunity to 'explore' new things musically and yet have the ability to come back to ETID and still produce heavy freakin music.

I'm sure I'm just being narrow minded here. But its just seems to me this is all an excuse and/or major influence from a producer to create something different for the sake of "creativeness".

For me, those albums are so far before the Tim that went crazy that for me they are untainted.  The only tainted album for me is Awakened.  All the old albums are still in rotation for me to listen to from time to time.

I think I might just wait until after release. I've had really bad luck with FYE preorders (random cancellations for no reason). Their  coupons seem to be getting better and better lately too; times must be rough. They had 25% off the other day. And if it's sold out by then, black it is.

My early opinion on this album is that I think this album is a step up from Heavy Fruit and I am Hollywood.  Still not quite as good as It Hates You or Suck Out the Poison, but really good.

It's great.  I'm in the minority and liked their last album a lot so if I'm nitpicking I would've liked just a couple of clean passages in one or two songs bc he's got such a great voice.  But overall, I really really like this album.  Definitely gone back to more thrashy elements which is rad.

Oh no, I feel you! I get that totally. I think everyone has records and bands like that. I was just being transparent because often times we see funny stuff about how we suck now because somebody who never had much hand in the song writing left the band. But it's way more of a collective effort that feeds off the vibe rather than dictated by anyone person. The songs write themselves so to speak.  Just saying our sound or mood for any given record is always very much a conscious decision.

    Haha, no. I am Jeff.

Cory and I have been the sole songwriters since Wrongdoers, before I joined Scottie was another, and he shined with tracks like Deathbed Atheist. We've tried to collar with him on both of the last records for fun but just haven't been able to make it happen schedule-wise. Cory pretty much wrote almost all of O'God by himself, I believe Daniel wrote pretendeavor, though. It'd be super easy to go back and write more chaotic stuff like that or Redeemer, as we both have a background in that type of music but it's just not as fulfilling to us as musicians at this point in time. Kind of a been there done that deal. My musical interest as far as heavy music goes is pretty much solely with bands like Neurosis, Cult Of Luna, Kowloon Walled City, etc etc for the last decade as it's sort of just more where we are as people. At the end of the day we can only write things we enjoy and feel strongly about and never worry about pleasing anyone else or how it compares to past records other than do we like it more, as any other way would be in my mind, business-driven and fake and what not. Can't please everyone, unfortunately haha.

And Giacchino did a great job I thought with Jurassic World.  Gotta say I was kind of bummed that Desplat isn't doing this anymore but I think it'll be alright.

I just hope Williams can make it through episodes 8 and 9. Then just rides off into the sunset.

Two if you count Shark Bite, which is more of a joke than anything, but there is another song we never released, theres a small snippet of it on the wrongdoers studio documentary thing that came with itunes preorders, but we have no plans to release it for various reasons.

Also, the vinyl delay is a bummer but most recent update is early october now, not early november, we are planning on sending out info on it when it's solid and reliable.

In response to the standard vinyl release... I am in this band, and we had a ton of cool stuff we wanted to do vinyl-wise (different colored artwork covers that matched the vinyl, included pieces of feather or other objects relative to the artwork, etc, packaged in a box and more) but the 2xLP had the label skimping. But, they are open to letting us do what we want for record store day next year if these sell. So if that sounds cool, grab one of these to help us make what we really wanted to do.

You're stoked!  I don't know what others think, but I'd just listen to the albums in reverse order. Their back catalogue is really consistent and solid. not a bad album on there. And see what you like most!

I feel like to do Apocalypse "right" it would take a trilogy of its own.  I'm not sure how they could have made him more powerful in one movie.  One of the few characters stronger than him was the one who had to "destroy" him.

Age of Apocolypse really could have been told over several movies, since we got one, I'm pleased with the result.

Just got back.  Overall pretty solid.
Apocalypse wasnt powerful enough and never felt that threatening, but still was decent.

I don't think the characters need a reboot, just the franchise. X men just isn't on the same caliber as some other marvel movies (civil war,  first avengers) but in my opinion it has the potential to be better then any of them.

This series seems pretty wrapped up though,  not to much else to get into with classic X-men without getting into space stuff (which I'm all for).

Interested to see where they go with it next though,  these 3 were bounds ahead of the last three haha.
