Also, where are you guys seeing this Discogs thing where it shows you what your collection is potentially worth?

No real idea about how much I spend even monthly, it seems to vary wildly depending on if I'm consciously curbing my spending or if I just don't care and buy what looks good. Last month, in December, I think I spent way too much, considering I bought records as gifts and I had a 'Ahhhh, it's the holidays, just do it' spree on all this stuff I was hemming and hawing about. I also tend to look for deals as opposed to just buying one record at a time, but that means I sometimes end up with records I don't want and try to get rid of. Last month there was a deal on Repulse or something where all 2013 records were on sale, got 5 records for 45, didn't like two of them (Yo La Tengo and Majical Cloudz) so that didn't entirely work out for me. Also my local record store has this punch-card type deal where if you spend some, you get punches and later you can give the punch-card for a discount, and Saturday mornings everything is 20% off so I might buy things I would have been on the fence about... so many subconscious factors at play over whether I decide to buy something. I've even cashed in my change jar and spent that money on records I never would have bought with 'real' money, I don't know where that fits in.

I cruised this topic earlier and took a listen, I didn't grab the records as it wasn't up my alley, but I'm completely on board with what you guys are doing. 5 dollar records is generous as hell, they look beautiful and people are genuinely enjoying it, I say good on ya.

Way back when I first started collecting, I went to this flea market where I bought Getz/Gilberto (2 bucks) and this little record that had MANSIONS emblazoned on the front. This is back before I knew anything about the band Mansions, I had just heard the name and heard they were good, so I grabbed it for 6 bucks. It turned out to be some guy named Damon McMahon, and the album was called Mansions. A sticker on the front heralded him as a modern day Nick Drake. Found his album online, listened to it once, went 'meh' and didn't return to it for a long time. Now it's one of my most played records. Dunno if this really counts because I didn't repeatedly try to get into him, but I did grow to love it after a long sad time of it just sitting on the shelf. Seems to be rather unknown, Discogs didn't have a listing for the 10" that I have, and he doesn't have any other releases, yet he was on the Astralwerks label (Brian Eno, Yoko Ono, Kraftwerk). Just a bizarre blip in my collecting.

I'm sorry to go on and on and triple post and shit, but I Facebook'd one of the bands on the label about buying a tape and he responded very nicely about sending me one. God damn. Best small label I've seen in a long time.

...and after sampling the label's other artists, my 3 tapes ordered today went to 7. I mean what the hell. It's almost all gold.

I did, eventually. I made a small sale today which cut the price in half, and I've liked all Real Estate up to now... maybe not so much their EP. But their self-titled was one of my favorite albums for a loooong time. Gotta give back.

So like the topic says, Neutral Milk Hotel is playing a surprise show in Ithaca, NY tonight at 9 pm EST. I had planned to go with my girlfriend and stay in Ithaca for the night and explore the next day, as I've heard there's things to do. However my girlfriend started her semester today, and has class tomorrow, and shouldn't miss them. I know, I know, the first day doesn't matter too much, but she'd rather not miss it so that's that. Thinking it was going to be a sold out show (since it's NMH), and not wanting to take a 3 hour drive by myself there and 3 hours back (I have no friends) I called to see if I could give my tickets away to the next buyer, but it's not a sold out show, not even close she said. So I paid 80 bucks for two tickets I can't use or gift anonymously. If anyone is in the area and wants to go to the show tonight, please PM me or post a comment so I can somehow get these tickets to you. They're will call, so you just have to show up. I'll wangle with the ticket lady over the phone to let you pick them up.

I dismantled my Facebook or else I would. I'm finishing this by saying that the last tapes did now finally show up. In the end, if I give credit where it's due. everything arrived safely in great condition, the guy was accommodating when I could get a hold of him, and I ended up with a couple free tapes. But.. it took an unreasonably long time and a lot of back-and-forth, and I hate that feeling of uncertainty. I understand things can get lost in the shuffle, I'll probably give them another chance down the line because they have some great stuff, but man. I don't wanna wait another three months for some cassettes.

BMSR's Start A People vinyl press. It hasn't been made yet. But it will. When, I do not know, everybody says 'soon'. There will be special colors for those in the Graveface subscription, and if I knew when it would release I would definitely consider it. Love that record so much I got a tattoo of it. I dunno if that qualifies for 'white whale' really, but it would be a culmination for me.

Caddywhompus and Community Records did a pre-order in October for a lathe cut of The Weight EP, supposed to arrive this month sometime. This will be the first I'll have the honor of playing, I've heard a little bit about the bad sound quality but we will see.
