  1. Shelter is super fun, but the larger your vault gets, the buggier it gets and it starts crashing. My last vault was capped at people, production was way more than I needed, and everyone was at like 97% happiness so I got bored with it and quit.
  2. Both of these look great! Just received both copies, and a test press in the mail yesterday and couldn't be happier. The new album definitely lived up to my expectations!
  3. For sale is a used, but in very good working and cosmetic condition Music Hall PA 1.2 MM/MC Phono Preamp, and a Pro-Ject Speed Box S. I can let these go well below new price, so hit me up with offers. Preamp on Amazon Speed box on amazon
  4. Bump. I figured it's worth a shot to try this again.
  5. Feel the same way. I bought two copies, one for myself and one for a friend. I'm leaning towards it being an actual box set just because it said 5 piece or something along those lines on the website, andddd, because it would have been free shipping since the two came to over $25, but it added shipping costs due to weight.
  6. Maybe I should said I know I have never had a decent tape deck, as I generally buy used, but yeah. I've never heard a tape sound anywhere close to being decent. I'm not knocking people buy like them, but they always sound like garbage to me which sucks because at one point I had some really cool tapes in my collection.
  7. I've bought a few myself, and I don't know if I've just never owned a nice enough tape deck, but I've literally never heard a good sounded cassette.
  8. I agree, and that was my first, I guess "big" purchase when upgrading from cheap, whatever I could find, used equipment. Every piece in the chain plays a part, but I've noticed the biggest upgrade in quality when I've upgraded to decent speakers and preamp. Here's my opinion on it: rspeakers > media > turntable rig > preamp >> amp >>>> cables
  9. So, I guess I have my own opinion, but what do you guys think? How do you rank the different components as far as difference in sound quality? I.E. Which component do you get the most bang for your buck upgrade wise? Speakers, turntable, amp, preamp, cables? Obviously crap in = crap out, but beyond that, where is the money best spent when building a hifi rig?
  10. My fear would be the stylus ripping off of the cantilever somehow. If it sounds okay, it must be I would imagine since you obviously didn't rip the stylus off. Give the stylus a good cleaning using whatever method you prefer and go back to listening worry free.
  11. Interested in REM - Chronic Town, All Mod Cons, and King Tuff - Was Dead
  12. No Sleep has 40% off again with code XFILES until July 16th. There are some really good albums in their distro section.
  13. For what it's worth, I wish I would have taken some of the advice posted a while ago here and just saved some money on upgrades to my turntable and put the money into a better turntable. Music hall 2.2, acrylic platter, 2M Blue, and speed box s. I love the sound and it holds speed pretty well on its own. But the speed box makes my tone arm vibrate when on 33 rpm. I don't notice any degredation in sound, but I'm sure that can't be good for my stylus or records.
  14. I don't think a sticky hand was suggested, just described as similar material for cleaning purposes. Regardless. I have read that the sticky hands were similar in composition, but honestly, I have tried both and find them similar in composition, but not in ability to clean. The sticky hands you can get out of a machine don't clean the stylus in nearly the same fashion the Zero Dust does. If you want to take the DIY route, just "spring" for the magic eraser. I use the magic eraser in conjunction with the zero dust and couldn't be happier, but that's just my option on it.
  15. I received this same one a few days ago. It wasn't the toroidal transformer version I thought I ordered, but I really like it. There is a little hum on first setting it up, but with a little research it can be fixed. The OP was lucky the they just had an outlet issue. I previously used a similarly priced Music Hall PA1.2 and this thing completely blows it out of the water. I've done a few mods that have helped and expect to do a few more, but even out of the box it sounds amazing. I couldn't recommend this guy any more. For reference I am using this with a Music Hall MMF 2.2 with acrylic platter and Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge, and Klipsch RF82's
  16. I just picked up the version of this with the toroidal transformer. I'm stoked to get it and check it out and eventually do some mods. Where'd you get this one from and hoe long did it take to come in?
  17. $75 or maybe just some records. I have been really trying to ramp up my Touche Amore collection so I'd be down to trade for some of the rarer variants. My dream would be that someone would pm telling me they have the Yellow Sound and Fury press of To the Beat of a Dead horse and I could throw them a little cash and iPad for it. Oh, well. Here's to a long shot!
  18. I was finally able to get a pair of Klipsch RF-82 II's. Not the most expensive set of speakers but I think it will be a huge upgrade from my Polk TSI-300's so I'm pretty stoked to receive them and hear how they sound.
  19. My recommendation is to just save what you can and get a decent entry level turntable. At least, that is if you really want to collect records. Will that ION tear up your records? Sure after a while. You aren't going to put a record on it and it come off warped, but the cheap stylus will eventually wear down the grooves. Maybe just hold off on buying vinyl until you can get a decent turntable. I personally think the Music Hall MMF 2.2 is a good route to go, but there are some cheaper decent turntables out there. When you think about how much you spend on non necessities, a few hundred bux for something you really enjoy isn't all that bad.
