It's important for my algorithm that we know when your label was printed.

Why are you talking about him like he's not here?
Has anyone been listening to the new Toundra? Any opinions out there? I like it, don't like IV very much (I've tried to like it), so I am happy about this one. For full disclosure, I is my favorite by far.

I listened to it once through the other day. I thought it was more of the same, maybe a step down from IV, but still extremely engaging and worthy of standing up to earlier material. I'm surprised you don't like IV! In the back of my mind I always pegged you and I as having very similar tastes, but I think IV is probably their best, along with II.

You know deep down you love 'em.
The half and half pilsner is flawless, so that's why I wasn't scared of going for tri (sound wise). I did tri cause it hasn't been done before in a Caspian release. Splatters, splits, solids, whisps, marbles, splits with splatters, blobs, clears, clears with splatters, transparents; all been done. Really the only one I'd never fuck with is a haze - aka sand paper. Then I went with a color scheme to match. I played around with a few other ideas, but tri just seemed to be at the top of my list. I know tri's have their history of being spotty here or there, as well as splits, but every Sheath record I have sounds great (as well as every TC Caspian release as well). I also wasn't really super focused on 'which is the best sounding' cause I knew they were doing an audiophile black. Honestly I just chose tri cause I knew Gumbo wouldn't get it.
You the true homie.
No, they will not.

Time to buy a speed box!!! I kid.
I find multi-speed records to be annoying too.

WUT.
I thought we were friends now Gumbo. But these are fightin’ words.
Brian Cook is (imo) the best bassist in the genre. I guess RC is top dog for me because they satisfy my riff-heavy post-metal appetite perfectly. Definitely why Cloudkicker is one of my favs as well. I love the riff-heavy jams more than the slow build climactic stuff. And I feel like Caspian is a perfect blend of those two styles.
EDIT: Thought I posted this earlier but didn’t go through. Oops.

Definitely check out their other 4 songs as well. Not a bad one from them imo.

I really like that Gullwing record. Superficially, I don't particularly care for the name.
New Toundra this year? I'm pretty stoked for that too!

Latitudes and Glaciers - 2 great bands! Way overdue for Glaciers. I still like Agonist the best of all Latitudes but Old Sunshine was proggy good!

Made it halfway through that Ranges album. It basically exemplifies everything I find trite and forgettable about modern post-rock, down to a T. I would give it a firm 8/10 yawns.
New Godspeed delivers. Obviously a little disappointed the bulkier tracks were slimmed down from their live counterparts, but as someone who didn't personally listen to the live renditions on repeat, I haven't grown accustomed to either version yet. I think that if they released the album and then played the new material with additional segments, no one would be griping. It makes things tricky when you debut material and tour it for years and then tweak it for a studio release, though. But Godspeed will Godspeed, and that seems to be their preferred approach, post-hiatus. I'm just happy to have another album and I find it really consistent if not short lived.

The only point of contact I had with Post-Rock lately was the RUSSIAN CIRCLES gig ~ 10 days ago!
This gig proved again that they are the one and only PR-band I need! I love them so much!

Welp, it finally fucking came. It's a tangible thing. It only took almost a year, but hell, it was worth it.

Same. It actually made the top slot of a user-generated "best post-rock of 2016" list, on the last page.
Empros is a fucking doozy and usually my answer to inquiries of "what's your favorite Russian Circles record?" But there's no denying that it blows Memorial out of the water. I think it was just a week or two ago that Matt and I randomly brought up Guidance and how good it is / how well it's held up over the months.

Hey, so I haven't posted on VC in like 6 months, so will y'all murder me if I just pop in here real quick to say that the new Russian Circles record is stupid fucking good? I'm sure y'all already talked about that record a while ago, but I'm still drooling over it.
