  1. made this post for r/vinyl last week but it covers everything for storage & playback + my purchases for last year: http://imgur.com/a/V2SXK
  2. The big one: Lisa Lougheed - Evergreen Nights I'm guessing it was only ever released in Canada, in the 80s, I've never personally seen one on sale but the couple past listings I've seen then for were pretty expensive. Other stuff: Die! Die! Die! - Promises, Promises - clear preferred, but any pressing will do, I've never seen this for sale Robyn - Body Talk - readily available, just too damn expensive. I landed one of my grails last year though: Suffocate For Fuck Sake - Blazing Fires And Helicopters On The Frontpage Of The Newspaper. There's A War Going On And I'm Marching In Heavy Boots (2xLP)
  3. I'm like 20 minutes away, so if I can go on a good crossing day (10 minute wait vs 1hr), I can be across, pick up, and back in canada in maybe 60-80 minutes round trip. every time though, the dumb look on their faces at the border when I have to explain to the again that yes, records still exist, and yes, I and many other people buy them, and no, they are not for business (really? picking up 1-4 records a month is somehow a great business plan)? there's some stuff I want to buy from http://www.loeildutigre.org/, but it's $10 to ship a single LP. even they say straight up that it's really expensive to buy from them due to shipping, and if you can find a distro (of course there are none in BC). canada post is terrible. Is Amazon Prime actually worth it in canada? you basically get the "maybe free 2 day shipping if we can get it there, otherwise it's regular free shipping" and nothing else that you would in the US (would shipping from the US to canada be free? do prime accounts cross from amazon.ca to amazon.com?). seems a bit steep.
  4. Even with the dollar as bad as it is, sometimes buying is the US is still worth it in the long run due to price differences and shipping. Even when buying in Canada, shipping rates can be terrible. If you're close enough to the border it is well worth the few bucks to get a U.S. shipping address and then make the trip over after a few deliveries have arrived. even if you're paying 25% more in exchange, lower prices and often free shipping (or $5 media mail) still beats domestic prices & shipping rates. plus you can buy from most places that won't ship to Canada (except bullmoose. fuck those guys).
  5. I haven't heard anything and I am getting a little concerned, I'm pretty sure it's now beyond the timeframe that I could file a claim if nothing shows, I would hope that they'd at least send a status update at some point and not just send them out without saying so.
  6. So this has actually shipped? I haven't heard anything at all. I was a bit bummed that I didn't get a download code after the purchase and ended up buying the album in FLAC as well to hold me over.
  7. yeah, way more than I'd like to pay. it PledgeMusic pretty much just preorders, or is there a goal I'm not seeing that they have to meet like kickstarter? These crowdfunding sites are always overpriced and sketchy for music. Like Spookey Ruben is trying to fund his new album on Indiegogo and one of the "rewards" is his first album on vinyl for the first time. I'd love that, but it's $60 and with Indiegogo they get the money no matter what. it doesn't look like he'll meet the goal, so you're out money and nothing gets pressed? I think for this I'll sit it out and wait for the retail copy.
  8. sites should (usually) cross check the billing address you enter with the address your card is registered with. I've actually had my card frozen because I set the wrong country for the billing address, so that's not something I want to deal with again.
  9. shipping to (or buying while in) canada is the worst. tried to order from bullmoose, they don't ship to canada. fine, I have an address in washington to ship to, but nope, they can't take payment from anyone with a canadian billing address, so can't use my card. amazon.ca has the album for $46 w/free shipping, so it's $51.58 (CAD) after tax. With Lex, shipping to canada is $15, but if I ship to the US, it's $7. so the cheapest I can get it is around $37 CAD, shipping from the UK to the US. weak. bought it anyways.
  10. Anyone find their copy "gritty"? The first disc seems fine, but pulling the blue disc in/out of the sleeve grates like there's sand in there. Gotta wash them and see if that helps, I'm just worried its going to scratch.
  11. thankfully they take paypal... I'm in canada but have a box across the border that I get shipments to. shipping to canada was $42 and they wouldn't let me put in an alternate shipping address in a different country, paypal seemed to get around that.
