There is far too much to quote & respond too haha. I’ll do my best to address a bit of everything.
Re: pg.lost. Despite not caring for them much, there isn’t a post-rock/metal band I wouldn’t go see if they came my way. I don’t doubt for a second that they would slay live.
Re: Live vs Recorded. I agree with both Owen & Gumbo. I do put a lot of stock into a band’s live performance, but also appreciate a great album. TEOTO is definitely front & center in my point of “Great live band, lackluster studio band”. I won’t buy “-aire” on vinyl because it’s just not an album I’m going to go out of my way to listen to much. But I won’t miss them live.
Re: Godspeed. I actually had the exact opposite experience as Gumbo. I had always liked them (albeit casually) & thought seeing them live would really put them over the top. But they were probably the most disappointing band I’ve seen in a long time. They really did nothing for me live.
Re: Au Revoir. Definitely agree with Gumbo. I like their album; don’t love it. I mix it in on shuffle but haven’t spun my vinyl in a while. But they were probably top 3 live @ Dunk.

Good live performances can really put studio recordings in a new light for me. There are plenty of albums across all genres that I like or am “meh” on that take on a new life after hearing some of it live. But the opposite happens, too (again TEOTO). There’s this other band I heard live & it was really the first time I had listened to them (The Record Company...not post-rock lol). They played one of the best live sets I had ever seen. Incredible energy & sounded perfect. Bought their new album, & it’s straight flaccid trash. Lacks everything I loved about the live performance.
So there really is no right answer. It’s all about personal perspectives & experiences.

Gumbo72203 got a reaction from lexicondevil in [PO] HOLY FAWN – Death Spells
The Holy Roar signing still doesn't make any sense to me. That label must have offered them a ton of money, or they must be old friends, but they shot themselves in the foot with shitty shipping practices. Would have been nice to have a clean-playing first press copy of the record, but I'll take a Triple Crown repress any fucking day.
Also that would bum me out if they didn't do Yawning, that and Arrows are the best damn songs! hahaha. Great news about East Coast dates though!
Isles has been blowing up in my Facebook groups; I need to check them out more. If you like Isles, you'd also probably really enjoy Pillars, Ranges, and Coastlands.

I suppose I can't fault them to some extent.... wasn't that a huge issue with ITTCT records from Science of Silence? Specifically "Red Forest". Maybe someone else can clue me in about that but I seem to recall some big stink over that record and the fact that they shipped them in the printed inners with no padding and so they all got ripped to shreds.
Personally, I could give a shit about printed inners. All I want is a gatefold, poly-lined sleeves, and a well-pressed quiet record.

Gumbo72203 got a reaction from drds89 in Post-VC: Official Post-Rock/Post-Metal Discussion v.2.0
Still gotta dig into the new Seeress. I'm feeling a bit glum so I'm cranking death metal today haha.
Speaking of bands that changed style, have you guys heard the new Latitudes song? I didn't like their last album at all, but this new song is really interesting. My friend said it sounds like The Ocean (i don't listen to them).
I also listened to Geneva yesterday. That album has some moments. I dug parts of the title track, and Philos. Surprise surprise, my favorite moments were the major-key post-rock parts haha. Although when Geneva hops into that Slayer-style triplet groove... I was rocking.

Gumbo72203 got a reaction from Mars in Shoegaze/Dream Pop Thread
So, I'm pretty sure you guys already know about this band because I *Think* i remember seeing the name here, but I just saw TRENCH open up for Thrice on Thursday last week, and holy fuck!!! What a sound!
They're from Syracuse, so they're kind of local for me. But I loved them because it was just big, reverbed out walls of sound with the emo vocal thing going on.... so I think they fit here. They kind of sound like Isis without screaming.... just hypnotic shifting between 2 chords, and then the loud/quiet dynamic.
Fucking great stuff though, and they absolutely crushed live. I was very impressed. Check out "Liminal" off of Ritual Love for a good preview of their sound.

This "definable peak" is exactly what I hate about all this generic PR-shit!
After your RC comments you're dead to me!

Holy ever living shit. Stop what you are doing and listen to this song.
Album of the year contender if the rest of it holds up to this.

EDIT:
@mrewest and Derek (why can't I @ you?) just check it and see for yourself haha. Those were the only bands that i could think of that shared the same vibe as I Hear Sirens. IHS has more of an edge, but they're all about the feel-good post-rock. Glories would have been a good FFO in there, but I just didn't think of it.

This is amazing.
Reminds me of when I had a dream that I was seeing the Grateful Dead and Jerry was wearing a Deafheaven shirt and was into post-rock now lol
EDIT: For the record, I love the Grateful Dead

had a dream this band changed their name to blankenbarge and became a really cool shoegaze barge for the fishing community in St Petersburg
