Nivhek (aka Grouper) - After Its Own Death 2LP
Bronchitis replied to spoon's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
It must be a pretty big pressing. I’m surprised it hasn’t sold out yet. -

I feel like I am on a streak of shitting all over things but yeah, that album bores the hell out of me. I know that sounds weird since a lot of her stuff has the same atmosphere but it’s just hard to get into the whole piano thing after listening to a lot of Helen. Isn’t GoP only like 20ish minutes? Is it along the same lines as Ruins or more guitar based? I guess I can just answer those myself by listening to it when I find the time haha. -

Not sure if it is a special edition but I am dumb and bought it as fast as possible. I still haven’t listened to Grid of Points or whatever since I wasn’t a big fan if Ruins, but love everything else she has done -
Hum - Downward is Heavenward Reissue
Bronchitis replied to highfives's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
I got mine yesterday. I was a bit surprised to see it was shrinkwrapped. It was pretty tight and one of the corners is messed up, but either way I’m super happy to have this. I’m looking forward to listening to it later. The print is very vibrant and looks really nice in person as well. -

I don’t have best setup in the world but it’s definitely not a Crosley connected to computer speakers and I have never heard anything like that before. Am I just crazy? It’s less jarring as time goes on but I seriously had to do a double take and do some internet complaining real quick. Carry on. -

Alright - I’m not trying to be funny or shitty here right now and I’m sorry if it seems like I’m just being negative for the hell of it but I put Empros on a few minutes ago and thought something was wrong with my player. Not even kidding. Wtf is wrong with the drums??? It sounds like somebody put together a kit with random shit from their garage. Like paint cans and stuff. Are the drums on all their albums that muddy and low in the mix? Specifically the bass drum. Otherwise this album is really wonderful. It has been probably 5 years since putting it on and I really enjoy how the album just starts up at full force without having some extended reverby guitar ambience. Anyway, I feel like I am kinda crashing your guys’ party with my noobiness and I apologize. -

I’ve never been too impressed with virtuoso level musicians and just really enjoy Brian Cook’s ear for texture. The bass on C. Thomas Howell is pretty simple but absolutely incredible. The whole 2:00-3:00 section is one of my favorite things ever. Anyway, not particularly post-metal/rock related but I love Botch and just wanted to say that. I’m going to spin Empros after work today and will be back. -
What books are you reading?
Bronchitis replied to beneathbelow's topic in Everything Else Message Board
I’m *trying* to get into Terry Pratchett/Discworld but with so many books in the series, it’s pretty hit or miss. I really enjoyed Night Watch but went back to Guards! Guards! and it’s a slog. I usually finish books within a couple days (I fortunately have a job with a lot of downtime and essentially get paid to read) but have been sitting on this one for a good month. I’m a big Gaiman fan and have tried making it through Good Omens five different times but Pratchett’s try hard brand of comedy doesn’t really stick in that one for me. Same thing with Small Gods. I heavily relate to Pratchett’s worldview and am not giving up just yet though. I’ve been really into Cormac McCarthy lately after getting used to his writing style and love everything I have read. Suttree was a wonderful read, which surprised me since it didn’t have much of a clear plot. Also really into Michael Chabon lately. I read the Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay and couldn’t put it down. Probably my favorite book now. -
PO SOON : Sunn O))) - Life Metal (04/26)

Seeing them 6-7 years ago in a tiny basement under a venue in Portland was one of my favorite concert experiences. I would see them again for sure. -

So it sounds exactly like their other records. Passing on the vinyl version for sure. I really wish they would do more stuff like Alice. -

Brian Cook is a God among men. I really need to try to get more into RC but haven’t been in an instrumental post-whatever mood for years now. I binge and purge with music pretty bad and my instrumental phase is bound to come around sometime soon. -

This might be a controversial opinion but Basement is probably my favorite Elliott Smith album. I wasn’t a fan until I bought the CD and ended up not changing it out for a good six months. So good.- 2,219 replies

I prefer Sumac over Isis. Are Jesu considered post-metal? Because they are my favorite if so. Probably not the best according to most people and I totally get that but Everyday I Get Closer to the Light From Which I Came hasn’t left my rotation since it came out. I really don’t like Russian Circles at all and feel like I am missing something. I blindly bought Empros years ago and haven’t touched it since. -

Pretty stokes to hear how this comes out. I already have too many Sunn albums to justify buying this one unless it’s absolutely incredible, so I’ll just stream it when it drops. edit: meant to say stoked -

Man, I remember reading through this thread years ago and this whole situation is such a mindfuck. So the band never ended up doing the superior version they promised and just sold the SRC version? Yikes. -
Jesus Christ, this formatting makes my head hurt.
