  1. I really hope you mean "in terms of the record labels that I enjoy," because there is plenty of worse shit out there right now.
  2. Yeah, absolutely, there's a lot that goes into it. Clearly these guys weren't making money hand over fist and a lot of running a label seems to be about leveraging debt these days. I don't know ANY smaller label that isn't in hock to a credit card company or something. And I'm not talking about Kickstarter license job labels. But yeah, records that expensive are just tough to sell for anybody. Who really needs the 5th repress of the 10-year old Pelican record? They clearly missed out on a few represses that would have netted them some serious bank (Botch, Cave-In). No doubt about it. But maybe there were other considerations preventing them from happening (contractual, possibly...). No Idea absolutely does things right. But they've been around FOREVER and have their own built-in distribution. Not to mention people willing to buy 30th and 40th copies of Reinventing Axl Rose. But hey, at least they keep those zillion represses cheap. I am all for keeping records cheap and I actually have a money-losing business model as a result. But that's why I choose to make my living elsewhere.
  3. Yep, what he said. Personally, I think their stuff was too expensive, but to each his own. The idea of an album, in any form, costing more than $20 kind of sucks to me. I just don't get the price points we're moving towards. Used to be $10-15 was the most you'd have to pay for a "punk" record. The idea of dropping $20 on a single LP would have been absolutely fucking ABSURD even 5 or 6 years ago. $20+ is the kind of money you had to spend A) on out of print older shit; or on imports. Now it's routine for every record to be $15, $18, $20. At what point are we just paying for a bunch of crap we don't need? $10, $12.....I'm happy to buy records at these prices. Hell, with shipping, I'll go up to $18-20 for a single LP. But this $20 retail shit has to go. The prices we're seeing now are as much a symptom of capitalization on increased popularity of vinyl as they are increased costs of production. That said, if it's a record you really want, spend what you want. Hell, if it's a store you like to support or a label or band or distro you want to buy from directly, even better. Certainly beats buying stuff for $2 less from Amazon or some other faceless big box retailer.
  4. Should probably get some to a less controversial distributor.
  5. Yeah, actually, when you think about it, gatefolds cost as much as THREE individual LP jackets. I guess it is actually 2 separate albums, so it's not an unreasonable price. I don't particularly enjoy paying $15 PLUS shipping for an LP in the USA, but whatever. They didn't press very many so I guess it's not completely outlandish.
  6. No prob! There will be more copies soon enough on standard weight black vinyl. Like I said, I have 250-275 or so that the plant screwed up and pressed by mistake (they were supposed to do 180g). Probably do something a little different for the covers. Maybe switch up the color of the paper or ink or something. MIX IT UP.
  7. http://www.torjohnsonrecords.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_music_info&products_id=627 http://www.invinylwetrust.com/Boys_Night_Out_broken_bones_and_bloody_kisses_LP_p/far023.htm Both Paul (Tor Johnson) and Brian (In Vinyl We Trust) are awesome dudes who run awesome distros that have tons of other awesome stuff you should ALSO check out. Both have copies of the BNO Broken Bones LP for under $9.
  8. You can also blame the band for charging $30 before shipping for a 2xLP. Shit, blame the USA for having a shitty dollar too while we're at it. And blame yourself for not making more money so that $44 doesn't mean anything to you.
  9. Oops, spoke too soon. Band is selling 'em now. $30 for the 2xLP (plus $14 shipping in the USA - might be worth ordering multiples) http://thefullblastrip.bigcartel.com/
  10. I was at the Friday show with Fordirelifesake. $30 Canadian (which, sadly, is like $35 USD these days) was too rich for my blood. I like em ok, but not that much. They looked nice, I guess. They must have sold 100 of those things that night, and that was just the warmup show. After the big show on Saturday, I'm guessing these are almost entirely gone, so if you want one, you better figure out a way to do it quick.
  11. Haha, if I had pressed it, it would have been $12-13 ppd. $17 for a single LP that for all intents and purposes everybody who buys already HAS a CD copy of? Talk about entitlement. Nothing sillier than seeing single LPs for $20-25 next to double and triple LPs for the same price.
  12. I've never heard of a band saying FUCK YOU to the fans by recording an album they didn't like. That's just silly. Broken Bones is still available at various distros. As I mentioned before, there are approximately 275 or so copies left on black vinyl with no covers. Will make covers for these at some point soon and do something or another with them. The Interpunk copies, if they have em still, are standard weight black vinyl copies with the original cover. There are like 30 of these total, though once the final copies come out you could just make your own pretty easily so I don't think that really counts as a variant. I seriously had like 10 copies of the album left for the last 2 years for $8 INCLUDING postage on my website. Y'all be sleepin'
  13. Pretty insane layout on this guy. http://www.joyfulnoiserecordings.com/news/138
  14. Bump for those who missed out earlier this summer.
  15. Wow, I was just thinking about this yesterday while listening to Out Of State Plates. Where there is money, there will be reissues. Good stuff. I'm pretty sure Utopia was actually never released on vinyl though. Just the S/T and the most recent album.
  16. Was in talks with Ferret (well, WEA) about doing this and Trainwreck a few years ago. They wanted too much money. I don't have the selling power of Hot Topic so I passed. Glad Trainwreck came out eventually. Would buy a copy of this guy too.
  17. Nice. Will have to ask around and find out where the Gnarnia house is. Heard about it before, but haven't been.
