  1. Yep, I was hoping for Boston (or some other Eastern conference team), or for him to stay in OKC. It's totally his right to go wherever he wants to go, but it's also my right to think a little less about his "competitive spirit" when a top 3 player leaves his championship-contending team to join another top 3 player's championship-contending team when he's only 27. In the meantime, I'll continue cheering for whichever team Ricky Rubio is on and for whichever team is playing against LeBron.
  2. I'm a Clinton supporter, but I don't really want Warren to be her VP. it's one thing for some random senator to be trolling Trump on twitter, but it's another thing when it's the VP candidate.
  3. will do. I think this website shows the 2016 tax brackets. depending on your income, you would "deserve" to keep between 60-100% of your income. after a bit of math, I think my effective tax rate is ~20%, but that's not counting deductions and things like that. I'm not sure what "it" refers to, but I'm guessing it means "my tax money". in that case, I think everyone deserves "it" and they each deserve an ~equal share of it (e.g., everyone has access to public schools, libraries, highways, etc.). some people (based on their income, family size, etc.) need a little extra help (e.g., housing, food, insurance, etc.), so we give those people access to additional resources. if you refuse to pay your taxes and you get caught, there's probably a fine or potentially some jail time.
  4. how much do you pay in taxes each year? how many publicly-funded things do you take advantage of? how much do you think those things cost? what happens if you pay less in than you get out? is that theft? I like taxes, even if I pay more than I get out. I've benefited from ~22 years of public education and worked for publicly-funded places (academia and gov) for the past few years, so now it's time to "pay it forward." after all, it seems like kind of a dick move to go to public schools for free and then bitch about how your property taxes are too high once you've graduated.
  5. I heard Trump's going to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it.
  6. If you're a Bernie supporter who refuses to vote for Hillary, why wouldn't you just do a write-in vote for Bernie? He has just as much (if not more) of a chance to win this election as Gary Johnson does, and it would be a much more effective form of "protest voting" (if you're in to that sort of thing).
  7. Who is going to pay for the disabled folks' medical bills? And who gets to decide what constitutes a "disability"? And do we also help children of disabled folks, or should we force them to provide for themselves? I suppose we could just let the free market decide, right? I don't see how that could possibly go wrong. And my response to your question: Because it's the right thing to do. That said, it's certainly up for debate how to go about helping people who can't/won't provide for themselves. Maybe if we (as a nation) would elect more rational people into public office, we'd be able to come up with more rational solutions.
  8. for what it's worth, my amazon order (placed a month ago) is also not ready to ship
  9. In what way? Because he's not polished and doesn't present himself as well as Hillary? Because I don't ultimately see Bernie as a President? I assume Hillary and Bernie agree on ~99% of the issues, but I believe that Hillary is better at being a politician (e.g., being able to appeal to a broader range of voters, not just the uber liberals) and that Hillary has more relevant experience (e.g., First Lady, Senator, Secretary of State, etc.). In my opinion, she has skills he doesn't have -- in addition to having similar beliefs -- and that's why I support her. On a side note, Bernie's been in Washington for... how long? 25 years? Why hasn't he already passed free tuition and free insurance or dealt with government corruption?
  10. I love reading political comments online and trying to figure out who someone actually supports. For instance, anti-Hillary and anti-Trump comments could come from ~anyone, but I'm never sure how to respond... As far as I'm concerned, Hillary ≥ Bernie >> Trump > Rubio > Cruz, but I can easily see how some conservatives would have the opposite. I have nothing really against Bernie (I like a lot of his ideas), he just doesn't seem "presidential" (e.g., I can't imagine Bernie Sanders having a meeting with Putin).
  11. That's what's so great about Trump -- he's just saying what ~20% of the country wants to hear, and he doesn't really care how it sounds as long as they vote for him. If he ends up being elected (or even if he ends up being the nominee), who knows what he'll start saying? I'm pretty sure he's said something on both sides of ~every issue, so it's a toss-up. In any case, this campaign season has been great to watch. With Rubio and Cruz both winning states tonight, I'm sure both will stay in the race for a long time, all while Trump continues to win the majority of states (with only ~40% of the vote). Then, come convention time, the GOP will be a hot mess trying to figure out how to nominate someone other than Trump. While I'm sure this will be (and has been) embarrassing for the US internationally, if it results in the implosion of the GOP, I'll consider it worth it.
  12. While I agree with much of what John Oliver says (both in that video and on his show in general), I disagree with his assertion/implication that a President Cruz/Rubio would be better than a President Trump solely because we "know where they stand" -- in fact, that's precisely why I'd prefer Trump over those two! But to the OP's point, yes this is crazy, and I'm loving it.
  13. just got my boxset from amazon. in case anyone is nervous about the packaging, don't be -- it's packed like a tank amazon ships it in an oversized box full of paper stuff (i.e., the kind of packing that puts a sick feeling in your stomach), but the boxset itself is inside of a special black box with fitted foam padding. haven't opened the set yet, but I'll do that soon. btw, mine is #'d 05185. there's no "/XXX", but if there's 5 digits, there must be at least 10,000
  14. I think it's up on amazon for just $209... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016EAZ6DK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER the product details say something about 8 discs, but I assume that will change
  15. I was just thinking about the possibility of a rammstein boxset on tuesday... considering I only own one of these albums (on CD, no less), I kinda feel obligated to buy this
  16. excellent! now I just need a new press of forse 2 on solid blue and I'll have a set of opaque records that match their covers
  17. switched my amazon order to forced exposure when other people said they were getting white records, and I got white, too! thanks for the heads up
  18. presumably it's an error that they didn't include the bonus tracks in the tracklist...?
  19. I don't feel like starting a new thread so early, but I just read that Puscifer is coming out with a new album in October and I'm really digging the new single
  20. well, I suppose that means my amazon preorder will be on black... oh well, I've been late to the game on all of his releases (and still need forse 1 and 2), so I'm fine having a collection on black
  21. I like how a guy shoots people in a church, and ~all anyone is talking about is whether or not a flag should be waving on a memorial in front of the capitol building. Last I checked, the apartheid South African and Rhodesian flags weren't flying in SC, but the killer still managed to be influenced by their history... Anyhoo, carry on. I'm sure (re)moving a flag will do more good than some sort of gun control legislation or something to do with mental health.
  22. limited blue vinyl is available from kings road for $19.99: http://kingsroadmerch.com/matt-skiba-and-the-sekrets/view/?id=7618&cid=1138 they've also got some bundles with a t-shirt and red glasses like ~everyone else, I don't really understand how a basic matt skiba single LP can cost ~$20. I haven't even seen anything indicating that the US version will come with a CD or a download code. odds are, I'll end up buying it from amazon -- at least that way I'll get fast shipping
